More Saints Row, Darksiders in 2011

THQ producing more de Blob too.

THQ boss Brian Farrell has said there will be more Darksiders, Saints Row and de Blob next year.

He told investors during a conference call (reported by Kotaku) that new instalments in each series will appear after April 2011 - the start of THQ's financial year 2012.

That's a quick turnaround for developer Vigil, which only released Darksiders last month. Nevertheless, the game sold well and impressed critics.

Saints Row 2 appeared in October 2008 and faired similarly well. Eurogamer scored the game 9/10 for its deliciously over-the-top openworld antics.

Wii exclusive de Blob was released in September 2008 and, although not typical series fodder, was a strong and welcome addition to the console's third-party line-up.

Take a look at our Saints Row 2, de Blob and Darksiders reviews to find out more.

Great stuff. I loved the first 2 Saints Row games, even with the faults. Just brilliant fun, plain and simple.

Saints Row 2 was an excellent games when played with a friend online and not taken seriously. The story and characters were utter tosh, but that really didn't matter when the co-op was so much fun.

As long as the 3rd game has co-op, I'm there!
  • melch #9 2 years ago

totally agree with monkey, co-op online made SR2 for me

I much preferred Saint's Row 2 to GTAIV, it was just more fun overall. So I can't wait for SR3. Hopefully they're building a new city rather than re-using Stilwater again.

More Saint's Row and Darksiders is great news for me!

I also preferred Saints Row 2 to GTA4, it was kinda like playing GTA how it used to be before it started to get all serious.

Saints Row 2, for all its flaws was an utterly flawless game, it ticked all the right boxes, didn't try too hard, a nice bit of humour, fantastic cut scenes, story wasn't too hot but still a great laugh, especially with a mate and beer. Actually the first game in a long time where I made regular use of a feature that allowed you to re-watch cutscenes, all of the scenes with Gat were just pure gold.

I wonder how well the Saints Row game will do without GTA4 to juxtapose alongside it.

I have the game as a direct result of my utter dislike of GTA4, I wonder how many others did the same.
  • Shikasama #14 2 years ago

Earl - That's interesting. My main gripe about GTA4 was the way all of the cars handled liked they were made out of bricks. I much prefered SR2. It introduced things like...a turning circle!
  • PearOfAnguish #15 2 years ago

And general mischief was far more enjoyable in Saint's Row 2.
  • Iain815 #16 2 years ago

I much preferred GTA. The horrible graphics, dreadful car handling and awful framerate in SR2 was just too much for me.
  • SYS64738 #17 2 years ago

Initially wanted to buy SR2 on PC, to shorten the wait for GTA4. It got delayed. And delayed. And delayed. Suddenly GTA4 was out, bought that, forgot about SR2 and read later that the PC version was a trainwreck. Think I made the right choices.

    Contradiction alert!

So it's a flawless game, despite the fact it has lots of flaws?
  • Bander #19 2 years ago

Did anyone love both SR2 and GTA4?

I wouldn't be one of them. Saints Row 2 all the way! Graphics were a bit poo, but combined with how the game encouraged over-the-top stupidity, even the glitches had their own charm (the ones that didn't cause the game to crash that is).

    Plus, Soprano achievement!

Last weekend I unknowingly bought two of their games - Red Faction Guerilla and Saints Row 2 . Both are fantastic and excellent fun . I rented Darksiders last week and enjoyed that too . Good to see some genuine competiton for EA , Activision , Ubisoft etc .
  • metalangel #23 2 years ago

GTA4 had the 'cool realistic city' thing going on, but SR2 had the humour, mayhem and fun. Car physics sucked, though.

    Quotation out of context alert!

Read the rest of the original sentence to see that I go on to say that it got all the important things right.

I hope they fix the controls in "de blob" i got fed up with the number of times i died because they put the jump as an imprecise waggle.

If you need me to do timed jumps.. put the fucking jumps on a button!
