More Metal Gear games on the way News

PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

23 June, 2008

Ryan Payton, assistant producer on Metal Gear Solid 4, has confirmed there will be further instalments in the series - though they won't star Solid Snake.

"There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game," he told 1UP. "But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story. That's all."

Payton continued, "I'm happy we could wrap up Snake's story in MGS4." So what might future MGS games be about? Well, there's "still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned", according to him.

There are also plans afoot for the future of Metal Gear Online. "We're working on a handful of new maps, skills and rules that we're bug checking at the moment," Payton said. "A lot of the stuff is pretty far along. It's not going to be too long before people are going to start seeing screenshots of the new stages... By the time you're tired of the maps that come in the game, it'll probably be around the time we'll be bringing out the new ones."

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is out now. What do you think of it, Oli?

You little s**t stirrer Ellie, nice one! :)

I'm happy they are continuing the games as 4 has an incredible engine, but can someone please keep a tight hold on Hideo and his cutscenes this time if he is involved (oh, and PLEASE no Raiden!)

Also new MGSO maps! \o/

Yeah! I have been hoping for them ever since i first played mgs1, Snake vs Big Boss & Gray Fox! Lets hope they are worthy of more than an 8 tho, we don't want a repeat of the last review.

I hope this isn't true, since there's characters who at the end of MGS4 didn't quite meet the fate one might think, and still have unfinished business with the world at large. Not talking about Snake, but it's something to do with Otacon.

If we're going the prequel route, it'd be nice to have a Metal Gear covering Liquid Snake's decent. It could be a bit like MGS3, starting out as spry enthusiastic soldier, and spiraling down into envious wreck in MGS.

After the dream section and going back to plays MGS PlayStation1, where the controls are as hideous as I remember, I would love to to them release Metal Gear Solid with the MGS4 controls and gfx.

Remake using MSG 4 engine of MSX Metal Gear 1 + 2 (Outer Heaven and Zanzibarland) would be great, as both are referred to heavily in the MSG1-4 (except for 3 as happen before MG 1+2).

A lot of gamers havent played the two important events in MSG history, and it would be worth reinterpreting and to experiences hand on the interactions between Gray Fox, Snake and Big Boss.

I can see it in my head and hope Konami can too!!

@ Zander

Of course we want a repeat. It was absolutely glorious.

As for sequels/prequels...meh. MGS4 felt like a conclusion to me, chronologically or otherwise, so unless they come up with something REALLY special, I can only see them ending up with barrel splinters caught firmly under their fingernails...

Oh ffs, can we not just leave that aspect of the series? Don't over-egg a good thing. Part of the Metal Gear Solid Series' brilliance has been that it has never been as fully explored as it could have been, but between MGS3 and MGS:PO I think that enough of Big Boss's story has been told, and enough of Solid Snake's story has been told in the other games.

There's plenty more leverage in the Metal Gear world to tell other stories, featuring different characters- so why not do that? Start something new, something fresh. They can always incorporate other chaarcters as cameos...

I'd love to see another game along the lines of Snake Eater. The environments in that were great.

it would be awesome if they carry on big boss's story after mgs3 + mgspo. i also want them to use the big boss they showed at the end of mgs4!

I'd honestly prefer a new MGS game to start a new story, with new characters etc.

I personally hope Kojima doesn't go back on his word and head up the game again. I think the series is stuck in the dark ages in so many respects (which has to be down to him) so I think it so needs a fresh start now that the Solid snake story is supposedly over.

i really liked where mgs4 leaves the game, we dont need any more tacked on prequels. I wish they'd just leave it be. I want to see what else kojima productions can do!

As long as they keep the games to the same standard as all previous games, then I'm extremely happy with this news.

i loved MGS4 as much as the next person, but as said above, it really is time to leave the world of MGS, im really worried that theyre going to ruin a perfect quadrilogy by adding sequels of diminishing returns
