More COD:WAW maps in August News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

20 July, 2009

Activision has announced that a third map pack for Call of Duty: World at War will arrive in August.

Inside will be three multiplayer maps - Battery, Revolution and Breach - and one new zombie map called Der Reisse, which I'm pretty sure translates to mean The Rice.

Other details are scarce, but previous packs have cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) or GBP 7.99 / EUR 9.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Those map packs have been excellent, too - the first scored a whopping 9/10 on Eurogamer. We haven't gotten round to Map Pack 2 yet.

Excellent support for a great game, we never got this support from Infinity Ward for all the talk of COD4 being better than WAW, well done Treyarch!

I've really got into WAW after initially hating it. Looking forward to the next map pack as the last one was very good.

Almost excellent support. In some countries the maps cannot be downloaded (my brother in cyprus can't). If you can't download or don't want to download it seems the multiplayer becomes unplayable for some. When one of the downloaded maps are to be played the server suddenly empties. Anyone without the map wil lbe kicked from the server as soon as the game starts. In my brothers case for instance, he had to vote against the six new maps or leave. Now that will increase to nine. My brother has traded in for COD 4 so he can actually PLAY some multiplayer game (he was able to download COD 4 maps). If new maps are to be released, why stop some countries downloading. My brother bought the game and had the points for the maps but it says not avaliable in your area.

So what about people who have bought the game and do not want to buy extra maps. They also are being penalised for not giving up more cash. The game is becoming unplayable for those who do not want the maps yet have bought the game to play online. It seems to me by excluding these people from playing they are trying to force people to buy in order to keep playing without interuption every time a new map appears in the cycle. Underhanded policy.

I'm not complaining about the maps, they are great (so far), but I am complaining about the limitation of countries where they are available and that no option is given to play the multiplayer uninterupted with a map cycle that does not use the new maps.

And where is the hardcore CTF and Sabotage?

Does anyone know if it's Activision actively taking a role in asking Treyarch to make these map packs? I think Infinity Ward weren't pushed, mainly because they're on to Modern Warfare 2.

It's nice there's so many, but I'm hoping for a disc release soon since the combined cost is enough to justify sticking them in a Map Pack Collection disc for about £25.

@ Hobo, Valve support for additional content has been appalling, I don't see many L4D fans laughing ...

1 content pack, and it was free. That's support, and we don't know to what extent future support is.

@ Hobo

I could not believe someone would have the cheek to make a comment like that either. It must be a joke. Valve are in a completely different league to Treyarch (sub-par developer at best.) More maps for an inferior game. The phrase polishing a turd comes to mind.

The zombie game in WaW is some of the most fun I've had on a console this generation. They missed a trick not advertising it more imo.

As only a part-time commenter on the site, i'd lost track of what this threshhold stuff meant.

Nephirion soon put a stop to that.

Seriously, take off your console-tinted specs.

didn't they(Valve) release all that free co-op/online stuff for L4D a few months back?...thats better support IMO than a lot of companies out there

its good that Treyarch are releasing another map pack, the new maps do look good..i may miss this one,i only played map pack 2 once or twice and then never went back to the game,it would be the first COD map pack i have missed on the 360(since the glory days of COD2)..so maybe i will cave..eventually..i may even fire up CODW@W tonight,LOL

I really do think Treyarch catch alot of undeserved flak to be honest. If I remember rightly they were given something like 8 months to make Call of Duty 3, and with 'World at War' I would say that's it's obvious that all the elements that have been taken from Modern Warefare (especially the multiplayer) would of been due to Activisions say so, rather than Treyarch's lack of Ideas.

Also the WW2 setting would of been out of there hands. Which I do think limits a great deal of there options during single player (no awesome silenced rifle with heartbeat sensor action complete with Snomobile chase for example) but again this would be again on Activisions say so.

But basically I think with 'World at War' they've more than proved there own, and the additional Zombie mode of there own making I would say is good enough to be made into game itself!

To be honest I do prefer the Modern Setting, but Treyarch gave us 4 player co-op during both the single player and the supurb zombie mode, plus the support of an additional 3 map packs.... Give these guys a break!

I was not too happy with WaW online, I have now changed my mind as I have changed ISP and get better ping. No longer do I have to lurk in shadows hoping to shoot the unwary with better ping.

I had a lot of fun online in the last week and eagerly await the next map pack.

great news: if only the 360 hard drives weren't so ridiculously over-priced i might actually be able to upgrade to the 120gb and download this one when it's out, together with all the fallout 3 content i can't download either...

^Totally agree, Valve are pretty crap these days on PC and console, crap game engines, crap support that is getting worse, all they care about is their rubbish steam service and making money.....

This new map pack will be fantastic just like the last two, superb support from a superb developer.

Agree, Treyarch has taken a lot of shit from gamers but the stats for multiplayer week in week out prove people are enjoying waw. On average 100,000 people playing constantly (depending on time of day) is enough to herald a success.

Love cod4 and I'm happy to have modern warfare from IW and the classic world war stuff from Treyarch. They've done a sterling job and it's kept me busy online since release.

Good to see some continued support, which has been lacking in some of the areas we all expected it. I love valves work and buy any release they make. They are different in that DLC is free but their support of L4D cannot compare to Treyarchs efforts with waw.

They support you when it comes to buying extra content. I don't see them pulling their fingers out of their arse when it comes to weapon balancing. MP40 anyone? Cant sell that particular support though, can you?
