MOH Vanguard for PS2, Wii

The Second World Wii.

EA knows what we want is more war, more war in our cereal and more war on our toast. This is why its announced the development of Medal of Honor Vanguard for the Wii and PS2.

The game is due for release in March 2007 and will build on the franchise's sterling reputation for historical accuracy and authenticity, as well as introducing a new "heroic" storyline. Hopefully it will not build on the franchise's recent reputation for not being any good except in that one PC game the name of which we can't remember.

Anyway, in Vanguard you will hop into Corporal Frank Keegan's responsible boots as his 82nd Airbourne Division gets dropped off behind enemy lines, enjoying spectacular graphics and intense combat gameplay throughout.

"Medal of Honor Vanguard features a strong storyline told in classic MOH fashion," EALA Senior Producer Matt Sentell is keen to point out, adding, "We are really excited to offer this game both on the PS2 and Wii, which will allow fans to experience MOH in a completely new way."

The developers seem keen to get to grips with the Wii's "one-of-a-kind controllers", as they promise to use them to their full effect, offering a fresh approach to this familiar series.

Previously announced Medal of Honor: Airbourne wasn't confirmed for Nintendo's newest console. Hopefully this will mean EA are planning on delivering a specifically tailored and unique experience, rather than fueling concerns that the company are happy to simply churn-out titles for it alongside the ageing PS2. Although we doubt that, because let's face it this is it and boo hoo if you don't like it.

Er... your own story states that the new title is also released on PS2. So that's the end of that theory then!

The Wii is getting ports of PS2 games and ageing Xbox games (Prince of Persia) with new controls tacked on?? Hopefully there will be a couple of games released that will actually make the system worth buying. There has been nothing to date and there seems to be nothing for the forseeable future (I have Zelda on the GC and most certainly wasn't going to splash out on the Wii for that).

Well, what we'd rather see is games being developed for the Wii exclusively, or side-by-side with PS3/X360 games, not PS2.

    Ho ho ho!

As PS2 is going to have releases for a few years yet, this trend may well continue. After all its easier to adapt a PS2 game on to Wii than it is to try and scale down a power-hungry 360/ps3 game to run nicely.

I remember hearing on the 1up show a while back that they fully expected third party support for Wii to pan out this way - re-using Cube and PS2 assets. Maybe the Wii's third-party fate is going to rely a great deal on the longevity of the PS2.

Ermm... can i at this point - point out the NUMEROUS 360 games which were developed alongside the ps2 versions??

    Or do they not count?

GC zelda is a great game.. just as wii zelda is.

Wii zelda has graphical improvements and works in widescreen, and thanks to controller, aiming arrow/bomerange is easier than using pad.

However, it all depends who you ask. I've played both.. they're BOTH good. But if you ask some sony /xbox fanboy, you'll just get "dont buy a wii, get the gcube version, dont buy wii.. buy my console of choice instead then we can both jack off over it together"

The fact is, they're both good games.. Its all down to whether you can find/afford a wii.

Just like - why play the graphically inferior version of resi 4 on the ps2? Ask any sony fanboy and they'll inisst that theirs is the best version.. But as long as you're playing a great game.. who cares which platform its on?

    So, a 360 owner then?

I'm with you dudefella. Can no-one find anything more interesting to do than re-enact D-Day over and over again? I reckon there may be an industry-wide conspiracy to do games from the perspective of every US soldier who fought in WWII.

I don't think I'll ever tire of WW2 as a setting for games. To dismiss WW2 games as 'all the same' is, I feel, a bit shortsighted, as it fails to account for the plethora of fascinating stories to have come out of the battlefields of WW2, and the historical attention to detail shown in many of these games is admirable. The incredible story of Castle Wolfenstein comes to mind.

No but seriously, I'm all for WW2 games, and absolutely no one is forcing me to play all of them. I have no problems with them being made and continuing to be made and obviously a large chunk of consumers don't either.

    @smelly

..what graphical improvements? Is it just the widescreen? I'm on the cusp of springing for Zelda GC but I will get a Wii in the new year and don't want to downgrade the experience.

Using Resi Evil 4 is not that great of an example, where the PS2 version is graphicaly inferior it makes up with the Widescreen support and extra content (including the PN04-whatever when you complete it on Professional) but it did come out 6 - 9 months later, with Zelda Wii and GC versions it's mostly down to waiting an extra week, the controls and widescreen support, which doesn't make that much of a difference considering most of the time you use the lock on feature with some areas needing manual control and even they don't need instant accuracy.

All i can say is don't get a wii just because of Zelda, get a wii with Zelda + another game in mind, because you can get a Gamecube + Zelda TP for just over the price of a next gen game these days.
