Microsoft lists third-party Kinect titles

Sports! Fitness! Dance! Repeat!

Microsoft has revealed the identities of a number of third-party titles being made available for Kinect this Christmas.

Along with the first-party stuff we've played, gamers will be able to choose from a wide range of, er, sports, fitness and dance games. Well done everyone.

The ones named in Microsoft press release are EA Sports Active 2 from EA, Dance Masters from Konami, Deca Sports Freedom from Hudson, Adrenalin Misfits from Konami, Zumba Fitness from Majesco, Sonic Free Riders from SEGA, The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout from THQ, Motion Sports from Ubisoft, and Game Party: In Motion from Warner Bros.

"We believe fun is a universal magnet that binds us together," Don Mattrick said during Microsoft's E3 conference. It evidently brings ideas closer to one another at any rate.

    Seriously?

Love the new 360 slim but Klenex is a big no go at the moment, upset more than anything as I was really looking forward to it!

So really not quite as inspiring as the Move SOCOM video they showed at IGN earlier today?

(I foresee I'm probably looking at a new personal record for thumbs down with this post :p)

See? You hardcore gamers had nothing to worry-OH.

HA! Not really surprising it is M$ after all. True innovators.

A theoretically limitless control method..and all anyone can come up with is Wii rip-offs by the looks of things.

I don't get who they are hoping to attract with this line-up, is it really going to pull in the crowd that have bought a Wii already?

I like the dance game, I can see the potential for the sports training stuff, and the media interfacing is nice but the 360 (no BluRay) /Live is too limited in terms of media content for that stuff over here (in the Netherlands in my case), and then it's definitely all downhill from there!

Nice opportunities though for comparison, as there's plenty of games between the Wii, 360 and PS3 that venture to do the same thing with motion controls, lol.

Watching all this, I suddenly get the feeling that Wii HD can't be far off now. And a Wii webcam? Who knows. ;)

I dont think Nintendo will be worried if MS try to compete on the exact same territory - they'll do a price cut on wii and cash-in this xmas. Am prepared to change my tune when I see a killer app though, something that blows us away.

So absolutely nothing new to keep the hardcore happy? Right. And MS say keeping the hardcore happy is their priority. Nothing new was announced. A last minute Crytek game was the best they can do. But from what was shown you can't even tell if it was a hack and slash or adventure game or RPG. Halo Reach everyone knew about, Gears 3 was awesome don't get me wrong, but what good 360 exclusive is there in 2011 that doesn't include Kinect? Nothing.

Looks like my beloved 360 is heading for an identity crisis - I'm not liking this...
  • Vyggo #10 2 years ago

That's a little disappointing. I was expecting at least some innovation...

Not that I can think of anything myself, but hey, I am no game designer.

I would genuinely have loved to have been surprised, but this isn't a shock. Shame.

The two most expressive parts of our body are our faces and hands, neither of which has good enough tracking in Kinetic for them to be used by the hard. It's a limited system and it was always going to be best for things that require the full body to play them.

I got home knackered today - I've been out doing sports for the last three days and it was a huge relief to slump on the sofa and bung on Army Of Two 2 and blast some generic baddies with my housemate. Maybe some days I will want to jump around in front of the TV, but this is not that day.

I am looking forward to a decent yoga, pilates, or tai chi trainer on Kinetic. I'm sure someone must be making one of them. That might tempt me. At the moment it's all a little too frantic sounding.

    Thanks Obi Wan........

Well for the Hardcore there is Forza 4, Ghost Recon, Fable 3, whatever Milo and Kate turns out to be (possibly), and a lot of hardcore devs have been gushing about it. So I expect a lot of hardcore stuff to use Kinect, but they will take their time and make sure it all works properly instead of rushing out a load of "me-too" shovelware.

I dont, its not that easy to implement hardcore gameplay into a non controller, that is part of the problem. If they can it will only be little bits (like head tracking or voice control) and thats not really worth the cost of the device if you are only interested in gameplay.

Made the mistake of showing coverage to kids to see what they think, now they want the dancing game and the Nintendogs rip-off one.
  • Kerome #18 2 years ago

Well, that was kinda obvious - everybody wants to "own" the big market segments, dance, fitness, sports. At least MS's first party stuff shows a little fun and life and style, Ubi's generic fitness 001 is vaguely vomit-inducing. Of all of them, Adventures appeals to me the most, or the Star Wars game. Sports looks over-polished.

But if anything this looks like bad launch title lineup management by whoever is handling the program overall... Why more than one fitness title at launch, etc.

Yeaaaahhh.... I won't be buying Kinect, well certainly not at launch anyway.

The swanky new 360 though? Count me in.
  • Emmit_Assassin #20 2 years ago

Was looking forward to Kinect, but not one game for it yet. Where are the games, I mean the real ones, not the pretend Wii rip offs.
  • Emmit_Assassin #21 2 years ago

I can see the dance game taking off, if its as good as the Wii one, my boys love it. But the price point will be the real test. If they make it £100 or so, it'll be a flop. No one's going to want to pay out for another Wii-a-like. If its more like sub or near £50 then I might invest if they announce some decent SOCOM type games. None of this fitness dance sports shite is impressing at the moment.
