Mass Effect joins Classic range in March News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

17 February, 2009

ShopTo has told Eurogamer that a two disc edition of Mass Effect will join the discounted ranks of Classic Xbox 360 games here on 20th March.

Our shopkeeper friends heard the news from official distributor GEM. Microsoft is keeping shtum, saying there are no announcements to make, but did confirm the recently-launched US version is part of the Platinum range exclusive to that region.

The Classic edition of Mass Effect will sell for GBP 19.99 and include an extra disc featuring a Future of Mass Effect documentary as well as the Bring Down the Sky downloadable content. Various design galleries, music and trailers are also included.

That Future of Mass Effect documentary was leaked onto the internet recently, and revealed that a Fight Club-style arena will be the next DLC added to Mass Effect.

The video also confirmed transferable characters between series instalments, and said Mass Effect 2 would be a "much darker experience" than the first game.

Mass Effect 2 will be out before April 2010 and appear on multiple platforms, although we're not sure what these will be; Xbox 360 and PC makes sense.

Mass Effect blends squad-based shooter combat with a consequence-laden, epic story the BioWare name has become synonymous with. Head over to our Mass Effect review to find out why.

Surely it's a logical assumption that it's released on the pc and 360 if you can transfer characters from ME1?

FYI, the original game itself is dirt cheap everywhere. Haven't seen a copy for over 15 quid yet.

i like that the shopto ad advertises it at £10.75 to 'compliment' the article. While I know thats the current released version, its kinda ironic :)

Exactly, Xerx3s. But there's no confirmation of anything. Adding PS3 as a platform would mean the first game would probably need converting, which probably isn't out of the question; EA has done this before for - The Orange Box being a good example. BioWare needn't do it in-house.

My local HMV has the Collectors Edition for 50 quid. Bargain of the century. They also had the steelbook Perfect Dark Zero for the same price until a week ago, when the bumped it down to 2 for £30.

The standard version of Mass Effect is only £7.99 in Blockbuster anyway. Waiting until 2010 for the second game makes me weep though.

never confirmed but some have suggested it may happen.

I read one from Aus that said it would onlybe 360 but that was then shot down. Nobody knows.

Mass Effect 2 is darker eh? Sounds like they are following the Star Wars blue print where Empire Strikes Back was the "All hope is lost!" chapter.

In all seriousness though, and adding to Cannibal's comment: Yeah, so I guess we can expect some kind of furry animal army helping defeat the Geth in ME3! lololololololol. SOI SOI SOI. And so on, and so forth.

i'm under the impression that MS owns the name mass effect. so mass effect will not come to ps3,
but who knows, if sony pays enough monys it will happen.

I picked up Mass Effect for the PC for £12 just before Christmas and downloaded the free DLC. IMO, this game is better suited to the PC as it was more than a bit clunky on the 360. I'm pleased to hear that the sequel is also coming to the PC.

Nope, they've not. After reading this yesterday I decided to give it ME another play through and installed it to my HDD last night. No improvement in load times though.

Actually I think making it darker is following the blueprint for practically every sequel ever made... for anything.

mass effect barely worked on my 360 . it was like a slideshow in combat . ( I use vga output , dont know if it makes a difference as others told me the game worked good and the only got a 'bit of slowdown' ).
As for next one been darker , its probably for the best as you wont notice the loss in frame rate on a black screen .
