Mario Galaxy 2 gets European date

Plus: Monster Hunter, S&P2, Metroid.

Nintendo Europe has announced European dates for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and other titles at its London press event.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released on 11th June in Europe. It's out in the US on 23rd May.

It will be preceded by Monster Hunter Tri on 23rd April and Sin & Punishment 2 on 7th May.

Metroid: Other M has only been given a Q3 date for now, despite the 27th June US date handed down overnight.

Check out the latest Super Mario Galaxy 2 gameplay footage elsewhere on the site.

I wish I had a Wii sometimes, but I just can't justify buying one for the few games i would like to play on it, I already did that once with the PlayStation - money be runnin' out!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released on 11th June in Europe, while Monster Hunter Tri will follow on 23rd April.

Monster Hunter Tri presumably has some form of time machine then if it can follow SMG2 by being released earlier?

I want all 3 of those games.
  • Malek86 #6 2 years ago

Nice, but I'm more interested in knowing the european release date for Cave Story. After all, Wii games can be imported easily, but Wiiware games are slightly more difficult to.
  • kinky_mong #7 2 years ago

Still only a couple of weeks later than the US release which is good for Nintendo (even though most developers manage a release in the same week!) Would like a date for Metroid: Other M too.

The joys of owning an ntsc us wii.

Finally some games I want. Crystal Chronicles, Metroid and Super Mario Galaxy 2 mean that I will be using my wii for the first time in about a year.

i think Europe got a bit screwed over with Metroid...thats why we're getting S&P2 a month earlier then US obviously...it doesn't soften the blow NOE...
  • Lee_Morris #10 2 years ago

2 weeks isn't bad, I suppose. I don't like that Q3 for Metroid though although it will have a fair bit of localisation to done on it.

    the wii is back baby
  • ianegg #12 2 years ago

    Well, that's one lost sale.
  • Rubarack #13 2 years ago

I think that's more likely Wii fans upset that you were dissing Punch Out and NSMBWii.
  • Old_Books #14 2 years ago

There really is a shitload of great Wii games coming this year. I've always considered it hyperbole when people have said, "This has been the best year for games," over recent years but with the quality games coming to the 360 as well, I think it may very well be true this year. Damn you to hell 24 hour days!!
  • carrotcake #15 2 years ago

Galaxy is too important to get a few weeks after America! Damn them, they will have all the stars and be talking about it all over forums before I've played it at all. I like it when mega-important games on other consoles get the simultaneous release treatment.
  • Rubarack #16 2 years ago

Whoops, looks like I misread that. I thought you were saying "for wii gamers" as a qualifier as if it hasn't happened before.

But yeah, looks like this is gonna be a pretty great year.

Sin & Punishment 2! Please Continue!
  • JeroenZM #18 2 years ago

I'll second that. I also can't stand comments like "Time to dust off my Wii" or "Finally, some good games for the platform". Every console has it's ups and downs during the lifespan. Not too long ago I didn't know what to do with a PS3, except for watching blu ray movies. Thankfully, it's brimming with great titles nowadays.

I can't remember the last time new Mario, Resident Evil, Mega Man, Zelda, Metroid, Street Fighter and Sonic games were released in the same year. It has never been a better time to be a retro gamer.

Nintendo have been very surprising the past year. Normally when we see just video footage at E3 we'll be waiting at least 18 months before they're on the shelves but here we have two great games hitting the shelves less than a year later!!
The same went last year with Zelda ST and Super Mario Bros Wii both released less than a year after they were first seen.
Lets hope this continues starting with Zelda Wii hitting the shelves at the end of the year!?
  • kinky_mong #20 2 years ago

Bit of a pisser that we have to wait an undetermined amount of time for Other M though. But I agree this is looking to be an absolutely golden year for gaming no matter what console(s) you own. There's already been three fantastic games released this year and it's not even March!

Godd listings however I'm conserned that with Mario, Metriod and possibly Zelda out in the same year, thats it for the first party games for the next year, seems to me Nintendo are more about using theirbig names to boost dipping sales then actally giving players a steady stream of games, wheres Starfox, DK, and Kirby these days?

I honestly thing thats Nindendo's busness plan this days, starve the players of games to generate massive sales on release
  • MDL199 #23 2 years ago

Are Nintendo going to keep churning out sequels for these series forever? And I have never enjoyed any Zelda or Mario games they simply bore me to tears! Metroid Prime was good but no other game in the series has matched it in my opinion.

@Oto - really??? and Pikmin!!! I loved those games - perhaps Nintendo ARE picking up their game then (slight pun sorry), it's taken them long enough tho, again I'm hoping it's more the Golden SNES/64 age again then what we had on the gamecube and this isn't a one off - I love Nintendo but it's hard not to get bored waiting for their great releases
  • Incarta #26 2 years ago

Thanks Nintendo. I thought we were heading for a quiet period after march, but now my schdules all busy again =) Good stuff.

That's what i like about nintendo.. lots of hard core games - and not a generic fps in sight.
  • JohnnyWashnGo #28 2 years ago

Can't wait for Mario galaxy 2.
  • JohnnyWashnGo #29 2 years ago

Can't wait for Mario galaxy 2. It looks amazing.
  • hilts #30 2 years ago

People make me laugh with the nintendo sequels whinging - who cares when they are fantastic games?! It's like MW2 / COD 7 / gta 4 etc etc doesn't exist!
  • tnt_2008smum #31 2 years ago

Looks amazing, this seems to be the year of top notch sequels (Mario, Mass Effect 2, Metroid, Reach, GOW3 to name a few).

I loved SMG but I just wish they’d give us the option to somehow use the classic controller so I could avoid having to waggle.
  • tnt_2008smum #32 2 years ago

"That's what i like about nintendo.. lots of hard core games (with a bit of pointless waggle to keep the casuals happy) - and not a generic fps in sight."

There I’ve fixed that for you.
  • spekkeh #33 2 years ago

Too bad they're making the most anticipated game even more anticipated, hope the Q3 won't mean december. Or REMEMBER ME will reflect on the game itself.

Oh well, enough other great games until then. 2010 Is good times.

Edit wait what, only just noticed this was momentarily bumped from feb, huh?
