Kane & Lynch, Crossfire to hit PS3 as well as Xbox 360/PC
SCi hits on new strategy.
Eidos mother-company SCi has decided to release Kane & Lynch and Crossfire on PlayStation 3 after all, having previously planned to dodge Sony's new console until sales really picked up.
In a statement to the City this morning the publisher said it now felt that the console's installed base would reach "critical mass" in the company's 2008 financial year.
That means that Kane & Lynch - the next game from Hitman creators Io Interactive - will be targeted to arrive simultaneously on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC pre-Christmas this year, while Crossfire (a new entry in the Conflict series) will arrive early next year on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
SCi says it's also in "advanced negotiations" for the film rights to Kane & Lynch. A film based on Hitman is already in production with Fox.
To read more on SCi's corporate thinking, head over to GamesIndustry.biz, where "the Group" and "the board" get a broader airing, and there are lots of bits inside quote marks and all sorts. Those guys.

OF COURSE!
Let's just delay all our titles until the end of the year, blame it on PS3 conversions, then they won't expect us to make any profit until 2009! Nice one team, we've fooled the accountants once again.

It's absolutely no surprise whatsoever that these titles are coming out on PS3 - I wouldn't expect anything else.

Thinking about it if IO are involved they usually make sure all platforms have their own specific version rather than just trying to port one over to the other.

Yeah, I don't see that staying console exclusive for long.

Nonetheless, it's interesting to see this development but I'd be mightily fucked off to find out that they agreed to stall the 360 version just to release the PS3 version at around the same time ... Normally this sort of thing wouldn't bother me as business is business but this game was supposed to be out in a couple of months!!

Eternal Sonata is still going to be released MUCH earlier on the Xbox 360. Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell in Japan) may not even be a "Timed Exclusive" game. Eternal Sonata is likely just appearing so much earlier on the Xbox 360 because the Xbox 360 is so much easier to develop game for, which means the games are released much faster. Just look at the way games like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, F.E.A.R. Saints Row, and so many others are often released for the Xbox 360 first.
Kane & Lynch, along with Crossfire, were only listed as exclusives on the websites because the focus was on the Xbox 360 and PC versions. They weren't even official Timed Exclusives; they were just going to be like Saints Row and Enchanted Arms, where the Xbox 360 versions are released so much earlier that they "appear" to be exclusive, even though they aren't. Games like Lost Planet and Dead Rising are "official" Exclusive games.
The Xbox 360 still has FAR more Exclusive third-party support than the Playstation 3.
It is also worth remembering that third-party games released on both systems always end up with better graphics and more online features on the Xbox 360; that is why the Xbox 360 versions of the games are rated higher.

You fucking twat, have you ever heard of an install base?
The PS3 just virtually came out FFS! sheesh, all those games you explain have some problems on the PS3 but lesser ones on the 360 are understandable because they are PORTS... they have to be ports, the PS3 wasn't out for the initial release. So of course their going to port an already released game from the 360, to catch up.
Once time goes on, they'll start using PS3 Dev kits more & more frequently so that ports are no longer needed.
You are such an idiot, it is unbelievable.. seriously, its liek spoon feeding you ffs.
