Guitar Hero DS tracks revealed News

DS News by Robert Purchese

1 May, 2008

Activision has listed 15 of the 25 tracks that will feature in Guitar Hero: On Tour for DS.

Speaking to US magazine Nintendo Power, the publisher confirmed that relatively contemporary hits from both Maroon 5 and Blink 182 will be included alongside songs from Twisted Sister, KISS, and Jet from Gladiators.

Guitar Hero: On Tour works by clipping a "Guitar Grip" into the GBA slot on your DS so the four coloured fret buttons rest on the bottom of your handheld.

You then turn the DS sideways like a book and use a provided plastic pick to strum the touch-screen guitar and rock your socks off.

There will be the usual career mode with six characters to choose from, as well as wireless competitive and co-operative modes.

You can see two amazingly annoying people demonstrate how it works over on Eurogamer TV.

Guitar Hero: On Tour is due out on DS later this summer.

The track list so far:

  1. "Do What You Want" - OK Go
  2. "All The Small Things" - Blink 182
  3. "Spiderwebs" - No Doubt
  4. "Are You Gona Be My Girl" - Jet
  5. "We're Not Gonna Take It" - Twisted Sister
  6. "All Star" - Smash Mouth
  7. "Breed" - Nirvana
  8. "Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield
  9. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - Pat Benatar
  10. "This Love" - Maroon 5
  11. "Heaven" - Los Lonely Boys
  12. "Helicopter" - Bloc Party
  13. "China Grove" - The Doobie Brothers
  14. "Rock and Roll All Nite" - KISS (cover by Line 6)
  15. "What I Want" - Daughtry

Why oh why oh why is this track list so rubbish?

And why oh why is that Pat Benatar song featured again - it's one of those I can't even let the cursor stop on in GH3 in case I hear some of it.

Four buttons I can deal with, but the other 10 songs better be good.

It better have Through The Fire and Flames. That would be fucking epic on such a puny device. Also, having four buttons might make the song actually passable on expert...

The track listing is like this due to the platform it's on. It needs to be aimed squarely at 12 year old girls to sell.

Unfortunately, septimus, despite your sarcasm, I think you might be right on the (Marketing Dept.'s) money. It looks as though some twat has decided that the DS is a child's toy and has selected the song list as such.

Could be that they've taken the line of thinking that they can get a higher market penetration if they focus on the widespread demographic who own a DS versus the 'smaller' market of guitar (hero) enthusiasts who also own a DS. In other words, this is a cash cow and not one for the fans.

If it was for the fans (of guitars or guitar hero), then the tracklist should've been a collection of the most classic tracks from the Guitar Hero catalogue.

Actually I like a lot of this track list.

Well... Five of them, which unfortunately is about the same number i liked in GH3. Rock Band's got the best tracklist at the moment, but it costs like, more than my education.

I still can't believe EA tried to justify the totally overpriced rock band.
