FFXIII PS3 includes FFXIV beta invite

Monster RPG ships 5m copies.

There's a Final Fantasy XIV closed beta invite inside the PS3 Final Fantasy XIII box.

Rummage around near the manual and you'll find a code for the Square Enix Members website. Redeem and you'll be on a VIP list for the FFXIV closed beta. You'll also receive a special in-game item to use in the 14th Final Fantasy game.

Earlier this month, Square Enix told us that loyal FFXI players would be invited to a FFXIV closed alpha test on 11th March.

Final Fantasy XIV was a surprise reveal at E3 2009 last summer. Even more surprising was an ambitious 2010 release date and apparent console exclusivity to PS3.

Head over to our Final Fantasy XIV gallery for four new screenshots.

Final Fantasy XIII was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 yesterday. The game's apparently shipped a whopping five million copies already, although how many of those have sold will we have to wait and see.

We reviewed the game and then compared both versions to see which runs best.

As a guy thats wasted WAY too much MMO/online time with his own guilds over the years, I can easily say that im not even so much interested to see this one. All i heard so far about the options and ways the FFIV will work is the noobish way they are trying to turn WoW for the whining tards and younger audience thats overtaking the servers. Aion went down the drain and FFIV will go before it even starts, thats for sure. Then again I didnt get excited abotu Aion either.

Since it already started I'll i dont give a flying f**k for all the tards that find an opinion about a game wrong and downrate me for it. I was fully aware there are too many nolifers that get butthurt about an "offencive" opinion torwards "their" game.

    cheers

I put my email on the Square Enix Members site last night, but they've still not sent the email so i complete the registration :( I've tried like 5 times today as well lol.

On the other hand, as someone who has gotten many years of enjoyment from FFXI, I'm going to give this a chance.

I've submitted for the PC and PS3 beta, I hope I get onto this. I also hope I can use the same character on both platforms. Being able to play on console and transfer to PC would be fantastic... I could dive on for an hour over lunch at work for example before picking things up again at home.

I always ignore these cards that float around inside games boxes, so thanks for the heads up EG.

    @Widge

I agree, nice to be able to play in living room or office as is convenient; especially when you have to work around other family members.

    @outerheaven8

It took about 5 hours for mine to drop in to my inbox - I think the servers are just overloaded.

    EDIT

@headache you don't have to, there's a PC beta sign up with no purchase necessary (afaik) at http://entry.ffx iv.com/eu/index.html

    EDIT 2

    Cheers iaman, fixed.

Argh! I've got a PC and 360, as much as I'm looking forward to FF14 I'm not going to go out and buy a PS3 to get into the beta... probably.
  • ZuluHero #8 2 years ago

Ahh i wondered what that code was. I'll have to do this as soon as i get home :)
  • iamian #9 2 years ago

    just for reference,
http://entry.ffx iv.com/eu/index.html is UK Beta registration site. Other one is for North America...

"You'll also receive a special in-game item to use in the 14th Final Fantasy game."

Very much doubt that XIV is the 14th Final Fantasy game. 44th, perhaps.

I actually ended up buying FFXIII today (PS3 version) - I'm about to load it up for the first time now after lunch.
Out of the 10-12 JRPGs I've played so far - most on PS2, a couple on 360 - I've enjoyed the combat system in nearly all of them (got a bit fed up with all the random fights popping up out of nowhere in some of them though), but all the melodrama and androgynous teenage heroes always managed to turn me off within rarely more than a handful of hours.

As you might imagine I'm a bit skeptical going into this one, but I figured I might as well give it a try. Based on the gameplay and cutscene videos I've seen so far, I didn't count more than two or three main characters that looked or sounded like they might be getting on my nerves within the first hour or two :p.
In worst case scenario I can always use it as a trade in for GoW3 or Just Cause 2 later this month.

Registered my game with the code, got an email back later giving me another code which I have to use in the online application form, filled in the huge form, clicked on apply and it says 'The promotional code entered is either incorrect or has already been registered'.

    It's 100% correct. Epic fail.
  • Widge #13 2 years ago

The code I got sent for the beta, when trying to copy and paste it into the site it would fail, but actually typing it in gave success. Try that if you have issues.
  • TopKatt #14 2 years ago

    @Shakey_Jake33

Are you a friend of Ben Chatham?
  • Goodfella #15 2 years ago

Thanks Widge, that did the trick :)
  • Entity #16 2 years ago

Well I got a code from the rental version, so I'm happy as Larry.

I also had a few problems with copy-paste of the code given but that seemed to be because it left spaces and knocked the last four letters/numbers off.
  • Goodfella #17 2 years ago

Lol yeah that's what I was doing and didn't noticed that it lopped the last 4 digits off. Bit stupid that it doesn't let you copy and paste though.
  • Entity #18 2 years ago

I believe the code in the 360 version is for avatar stuff.
  • Goodfella #19 2 years ago

Oh look, Biker Bob is moaning again, someone call him a waambulance. We get it, you don't like the game, compounded further by you buying the vastly inferior version. I love it as do lots of others so please, quit you're moaning, it won't magically make things better. Just trade it in for something you will like.

"Oh...watch out for Vanille then. She will make you pull your hair out."

I'm around two hours in now, and she's definitely the worst of the bunch so far - but she also seems a bit... odd, so I think there's a chance I could actually start to find her endearing rather than just view her as one of the usual annoying kids they seem to have far too many of in most JRPGs.
I do find it a tad disturbing that a ~14 year old girl is moaning like a pornstar in every other sentence though, but I guess that's the Japanese for you :) (unless it's not there in the original Japanese version, but that seems unlikely given the frequency and the fact that Vanille, and to a fortunately much lesser extent the other kid, are the only ones doing it).

Actually my first impressions of the game have been a lot more positive than I expected.
Combat is pretty boring and very repetitive here in the beginning, but obviously all the reviews had warned about that. The game looks fantastic though (none of the compressed Flash videos online can come even close to prepare you for just how stunning the first pre-rendered sequences look in 1080p on a 40" HDTV), the story seems like it might have potential (and I like all the background info in the datalog), the voice acting so far is quite good (even Vanille's voice acting isn't really bad, just forcibly annoying) and none of the characters and their interactions have yet made me want to puke and curse JRPGs for their love of soap opera drama (Snow is starting to get on my nerves with his constant talk about being a hero though, but I had feared I would find him far more annoying than I actually have. It really helps that most of the voice acting isn't the typical over the top, cartoon performances).

I'm looking forward to diving back in again later tonight - I'm hoping this might actually turn out to be the first JRPG that I'll genuinely like (or just be able to stomach) for more than its combat system.

Edit: Didn't even recognize Lightning's voice actress as the same woman who does Liara in Mass Effect. I think I actually like her voice better here in FFXIII.

    @Goodfella

I had a similar issue, I suggest you check one more time - because it turned out to be facepalmingly stupid of me.

The field with the code only allows 20 digits, and asks that you enter it without spaces. However, the email that they send you has 20 digits, with a space after each 4. Naturally, the first thing i did was copy and paste the code from the email into the beta app, then removed all the spaces. Cunningly, this left me with only 16 digits in the field, as it had chopped off the last 4.

Then I spent a little while feeling rather silly.

Why did i miss this news?!??! Reet.. that's me DEFFO getting 13 then!
  • smelly #23 2 years ago

    (does some research)

    bah.. it's an mmo.. booo
  • Emmit_Assassin #24 2 years ago

I thought FFXIV wasn't a PS3 exclusive? They did say they were looking at the 360 version, but not ruled it out. Have I missed something since?
  • Danno #25 2 years ago

It's not PS3 exclusive - it'll be released on PC as well. I think 360 negotiations are ongoing. MMOs seem to have some difficulties with Live & PSN.
  • Goodfella #26 2 years ago

I've played all installments and probably before you were even born.

Doubtful, I'm 39 aswell. I love internet assumptions.

I was merely telling the fact that there´s also a code in the 360 version.

    No, there isn't. Anything else?
  • geeza2020 #27 2 years ago

    ^^^ ants in the pants?
  • Goodfella #28 2 years ago

It's not a code for the FFXIV Beta.

Using the word waambulance doesn't mean I'm immature, I just think it suits your level of crying about this game.
