Fable II online co-op for launch News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

20 October, 2008

Lionhead has confirmed that a patch enabling online co-op in Fable II will go live tomorrow, 21st October.

That's according to the Lionhead community blog, which has provided running updates on the multiplayer feature that once looked likely to be missing at launch.

Fable II will be released across Europe this Friday, after much talk of dogs and emotions and shooting husbands and revolutionary this and simplified that.

Thankfully, this time, Peter Molyneux appears to have delivered the goods.

Head over to our Fable II review for an overwhelming tale of success.

Does 'free' mean you don't need a Live subscription or does it simply mean you don't have to pay for the patch?

Am I right in thinking online co-op in this is your mate joining your hero as a henchman (or vice versa) or can you both go through together as your heroes?

Both sound good and this is an instant buy (come payday, natch) but I hope online co-op means the latter rather than the former.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but can't you download patches for games on a Silver Live account which costs nothing?

You can download the patch but you can't play multiplayer on a Silver account.

Good point. So it makes no odds to people who aren't on Live anyway! Unless it activates system link multiplayer as well?

It would want to be free. They'd get some backlash if they wanted to charge for it.
Good that it'd be all ready to go on release day. :)

Then what's the use of adding the 'free' tag I wonder? Doesn't add any information.

I've heard that if you're connected to Xbox LIVE and playing Fable II you see others who are playing the game as glowing orbs of light. While it's a nice idea, I hope you can turn this off as I have no interest in playing Fable II co-operatively, although I did say that I'd play the game that way with my nephew when he gets the game for Christmas.

Yes do a left by the bookies. The off licence over the road is cheaper for ale though.

Fucking funny me

When is the Live Co-op gameplay going to be reviewed on EG?

It needs detailed coverage ...

Free shouldn't even be mentioned, of course it's free. Excellent that it's there for launch.

From what I've heard, you can turn it off. If not, you can simple disconnect from Live - that would do the trick.

WTF are you on about Les/Jedi?

Its 'free' because its not post-release paid-for DLC. Whats so fucking difficult to understand about that?

It has 3 options: Off, Friends Only and All. The All option is rumoured to be capped at 60 but i don't know if this has been confirmed anywhere.

Absolutely agree on this - AFAICT it's drop-in, shared-screen and the second player is a "henchman", gold and exp can be split in various ways (and player 2 takes this back to their own game) but as to the players likeness etc. I dunno. EG? Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease...

the article title is confusing. Since patches are always free and since there was never any talk of co-op being paid dlc (since it was always meant to be a game feature anyway), the article headline reads like co-op for this game could somehow be played on a silver account.

The players do NOT use their own likeness you use a generic henchmen, that will be modified by your own characters attributes, so he'll be a similar sort of character, but it won't be you.

Shared-screen??!! I can understand that for multiple players on one 360 but over Live that's fucking shite!!
