Fable 2 shifted to "holiday"
No longer autumn.
Microsoft has sneakily changed the Fable 2 release date to "this holiday", which is probably one of its favourite words.
Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux had previously told us to expect it towards the end of the year "when the leaves have a slight brownish tinge - but are still on the trees, if you see what I mean". Otherwise known as autumn.
He also told us he would rather be able to turn invisible than have lasers for eyes. Wrong.
Fable 2 is a role-playing game that lets you marry computer characters and raise a family, as well as kill rats and make money and save the world and all that.
It also has drop-in/out co-operative play for you and a friend either locally or online. The best bit about this is if the person joining has a saved character, the game detects it and models their henchman around it. It also means you take away any gold or experience earned when going back to your world.
In and around Fable 2's launch we'll also see Live Arcade releases that let you earn in-game cash to use in the full release, which you can spend on houses and all sorts.
Get thee to our Fable 2 gamepage for plenty more.

Looking forward to this for sure, the drop in drop out co-op should work nicely. Only 2 players though?

Fable 2 has, up until now, had no kind of release date apart from Pete's less than criptic release date hint last year. So you can't really delay something until they have given it a firm release.

The gameplay itself was actually quite good but nothing amazing and only about 10 hours long, if you took your time, that is. Maybe this one will be different, however after that I have very little faith in Peter Molyneaux.
Edit: submitted too soon.

Holy shit, their opinion must be correct then. :/
Anyone I know who played the original actually said they thoroughly enjoyed the game, a few have said the next one is at the top of their 'Most Wanted' list.
BUT, they don't work in the industry, so I'm guessing they're pretty much wrong....

"I always thought the original Fable was so over-hyped it could bend space and time. They (Lionhead) made such a fuss about the "morality" of your actions; "for every action a consequence". Strictly speaking it was true, but in practice it meant that the integer that holds your "morality" counter had a number added to it or subtracted from it for each action. What a load of cack."
I completely agree... but, Fable was also a very fun game to play. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face is my opinion.
@Arbiter
"Most of them are/were people who (also) work in the industry and all thought Fable was mediocre at best, utter dogshit at worst. "
LAAAAAME. Jesus dude, where does this rubbish even come from? Are you suggesting that a non-industry gamer who thinks they are having fun playing Fable is in fact NOT having fun, but they are just not skilled enough at game dev to realise what a bad time they are really having? How does that not sound mental to you?
Working in game development does not qualify someone to say whether they enjoyed a game or not, certainly no more than being a gamer. If a large number of gamers liked Fable, then the devs did a good job.

Gamespot = 8.6
IGN = 9.3
Eurogamer = 8
Seems like the critics liked it, as well as the average customer who decided to give it a rating.
Still, I am not saying that you should like it just that there was an awful lot of people who did

I hope that kool-aid comment isn't aimed at me. Of anyone in here, I am the least interested in what platform a particular game is on.
My comment has nothing whatsoever to do with Fable being on the 360. I don't even care if you like Fable or not. My point was purely about your suggestion that your mates working in the business made their view of Fable more valid. That is what you were implying; if their area employment is not relevant, why mention it?
I think what you will find (in my case anyway) is that its unconstructive commentary that makes people kick back at you. Your original comment "Damn, people actually liked Fable? Everyone I know thought it was a right pile of shite" was pointless and childish, and then when several people effectively tell you to grow up you start spouting about how your industry friends thought it was rubbish too.
Blah blah, etc. Rant over.

"but honestly you'd have to be deaf, dumb, blind and retarded not to notice that saying anything remotely negative about Xbox or Xbox franchises is a guaranteed way to stir up a shitstorm round here. Its just nutty"
I agree.
"From my perspective it seems like I'm being told that I'm not entitled to express my opinion unless I couch it in terms of absolute humility"
Sounds about right actually, and I apologise, my bad. I can be guilty of shooting from the hip sometimes too (using guns loaded with patronising bullets) as we have seen

You are perfectly entitled to make whatever comments you like, but if you choose to make them in a 'shoot from the hip manner' then surely you must expect to have similar responses. If you make considered, reasoned, constructive comments then I think you are entitled to take umbridge if you get vitriolic rubbish spouted back at you, but not when you're in the mood to make less well presented comments yourself.
As far as fan boys go, each and every platform has a similar number of retarded flame baiting idiots who do there best to ruin each and every thread which is not on their platform of choice. As an owner of all the platforms, including handhelds, I read the comments threads for topics relating to all of them, and I know that the retards are not worse on one platform over another. If you find they wind you up then the best thing for your sanity is to not read the forums or comments threads. Me personally I just laugh at them most of the time and ignore them once they are annoying me.

Anyway, Fable wasn't all PM promised it would be, but it was still damn fun. It was one of my most-liked games on the xbox and I suspect Fable 2 will be up there as well.
