EA unveils WAR Collector's Edition

Extra goodies and in-game content.

Electronic Arts has revealed details of the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector's Edition.

The special bundle was unveiled at a press conference in Paris this morning. It'll include an exclusive Games Workshop miniature depicting Greenskin warboss Grumlok and shaman Gazbag.

Then there's a 128-page hardback graphic novel titled WAR: Prelude to War. It's been written by Graham McNeill and illustrated by Chad Hardin, Joe Abraham, Rahsan Ekedal, Tony Parker and Kevin Hopgood. Each of the six chapters in the book will tell a story about the armies in the game.

You also get a 224-page art book, stuffed with making of info and concept drawings. Plus the European version of the Collector's Edition will include an exclusive mousepad.

There's bonus in-game content, too, such as the Librams of Insight - a power-up which gives you +10 per cent XP for an hour and can be used three times. There are 12 bonus quests and 12 extra character heads to choose from.

There's even more stuff on offer to those who pre-order the Collector's Edition. You'll get access to the open beta so you can get a headstart on building up your character, plus bonus in-game content.

That'll include access to Rittenbach's Portable Camp, where you can heal wounds between battles. If you pre-order from a shop you'll get an extra PvE item, the Sentinel's Amber Band. Pre-ordering online will get you the Guardians' Lolite Band.

The Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector's Edition will cost EUR 79.90 (no UK price has been confirmed, but that's around GBP 63). The run will be limited to 55,000 copies and the game will be available to pre-order from today at 3pm.

As reported previously, WAR is down for an autumn release.

    A bit premature no?
  • ZuluHero #2 4 years ago

Not really... The wow one(s) went on sale about a year before the game came out (and was sold out in about 5 minutes :S)

I will be on the look out for this after lunch.

Kinda lame to be offering exclusive quests and customization options that regular players won't have access to. For their sake I hope it's just temporary.

On the other hand, it sounds like EA is going all out with this CE pack.

12 quests to unlock the 12 heads in game from the sounds of it. No different to how blizzard did their pets in the original CE of the game.

For anyone inetersted, I just preordered a CE version of this at http://www.GAME.UK.com - and for a measly £39.99 hopefully its the same one! :D

So how long before these start appearing on Ebay for three times the price.

Know people who arent happy about this, with the WoW ones there is an ingame item but it plays no part in the game, people who have the collectors edition will clearly have an advanage (ok only a small one) and as its very limited it will come down to a lottery and who has the most money on ebay as to who gets the advantage. Already EA are showing they only give a crap about money and not the player and the game hasnt even launched yet

Tried the googling... As for game, they list the wrong release date and it doesn't look like the real thing at all. All the more because the official announcement is at 3pm today. I'd rather wait for a more official presentation somewhere before rushing into buying it.
Can't access the war-europe site either since my flash player is acting up at work >_

    @ZuluHero

They weren't sold out, I pre-ordered my collectors edition from a local Gamestation about 2 or 3 weeks before it came out.

"Already EA are showing they only give a crap about money"

I have to disagree there. EA make no money out of inflated Ebay sales, if they wanted more money they'd release more than 55,000 of them.

    @FunkyRenegade

lucky you - i tried in my local gamestation and they royally screwed it up. I got my BC one mind, by ordering it from game.uk.com as soon as they went up (about a year before BC went on sale, and they were sold out (on game.uk.com) in about five minutes :o)

EDIT: by the way i don't work for GAME ;)

Official site has 1 preorder site in the UK and about 15 in Denmark and Sweden - and the UK one takes you to PLAY's site which doesn't have it for preorder anyway.

    Very odd.
  • Kazzahdrane #13 4 years ago

Aye, I've ordered it from Gameplay (part of the GAME family, of course) for £39.99. Will keep an eye on Play.com though and high street stores too. Will just pre-order all over the place and then cancel all but one nearer the time.

I have to disagree there. EA make no money out of inflated Ebay sales, if they wanted more money they'd release more than 55,000 of them.

Thats where you are mistaken, the pre-order bonus is available only through selected retailers. With UO expansions there were often special bonuses for pre-ordering these deals were never available in Europe and only through selected sites in the US. Now this wasnt a problem as the product was so shoddy the expansion would always come out a couple of weeks before it was activated in game so you could order it from the US and it would arrive with pleanty of time to spare. EA often said they would love to run the promotions in europe but could never find partners. this prompted a european player who ran an online games retail store to contact them in the hope of being able to do the promotions and was quoted a figure that would of needed 10,000 sales in order to generate any sort of money for him. Was too much of a risk so he didnt follow it through (considering at the time it was uncertain if there was actualy 10,000 european players)

So EA will make more money from their partners by only selling 55,000 copies than they will if they sold 150,000 the partners may be selling close to break even point because they know it will be over subscribed and when they send out the emails to tell the unlucky ones they wont be getting a copy they can put a link to the standard copy which the majority of people will buy through them and thats how they make their money

Cool, and now there are no pre-order sites in the UK at all.

Having said that, I just found an old PC Gamer magazine from 2003 during a tidy-up, and guess which game had a 4 page spread inside :)

Why are people getting so excited about this? What am I missing? It looks so bad and I can't find any info on it that makes it stand out of the crowd. Is it just the license or has WoW really dulled people's expectations of MMOs that much?
  • orakio #17 4 years ago

Yarr! pre-ordered on play.com (they put it up a few hours ago)

The 2003 coverage was warhammer online developed by Climax. After they saw their game could never even begin to campare with WoW they gave up development and Mythic took over the project. Actually, started it from scratch!
With money-machine EA behind the studio, this game is sure to be half-decent in any case. Better than WoW? hard to say, probably not, but everyone has their own idea about what's good and what not.
