E3: WipEout HD gets Fury expansion News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

1 June, 2009

Sony has unveiled an expansion pack for WipEout HD on PlayStation 3 called Fury.

Inside are eight new tracks, 13 new ships and three new game modes - two of which can be played online. We're also getting new trophies, a re-styled front-end and better multiplayer functionality.

Sony wouldn't cough up much more than that, but did say the expansion will be at E3 this week, as will literally everything else in the world.

Head over to the US PlayStation blog for a quartet of screenshots.

Alternatively, read our WipEout HD review to find out more.

I hope they aren't just 'prototype' tracks like in the PSP games, though.

Played endless games of WipeOut on the PSP.

Downloaded Wipeout HD PS3 on day of release and... I think I've played it twice.

wipeout = perfect handheld game, meh console game.

Am I wrong?

Yes, demo is quality, yet to buy the full thing as I'm happy with the PSP ones, but now that new content in on the way for Wipeout HD will have to pick it up.

@Rhubarbandcustard - you're so wrong.

Hope these new tracks are the HD versions of other classics from the original PS1/PS2 games, or the dropped tracks from Pulse/Pure. This puts so many other AAA titles to shame on a decent HD setup.

The original game was very reasonably priced, and 8 tracks sound like a whole new game's worth. Hopefully not more than a tenner or thereabouts then!

I don't usually try collect trophies but the trophies in this are nicely balanced. Some really tough ones but some easy ones also. I'm no where near a platinum though.
This is really good news.

Hey, well from a thread started at wipeoutzone by WipEout creator Paul Tweedle, these are the tracks you can expect

"to confirm the tracks in the pack; you will be able to play are;

Modesto Heights forward,
Modesto Heights reverse,
Tech De Ra forwards,
Tech De Ra reverse,
The Amphiseum forward,
The Amphiseum reverse,
Talon's Juction forward,
Talon's Junction reverse.

Plus the below Zone (also playable in Zone Battle and Detonator) tracks playable forwards only;

Mallavol,
Syncopia,
Corridon 12,
Pro Tozo.

Tony also forgot to mention that there will be a new single player Fury Campaign too, which includes events using the three new modes.

Paul. "

Was hoping for classic 2097 tracks, but the new ones look plenty purty.

Please god let them sort out the race/tournament difficulty whilst they're at it... it's so far out of whack with the Time Trial/Speed Lap, and the novice/skilled/expert setting makes little difference. When a rocket start and 2 perfect laps in a Piranha sled isn't enough to get me out of last place on a "novice" setting, something is still badly amiss.

But even though it spanks my ar$e like a monkey, it's still some of the finest gaming moments of this gen, and this will soon be gracing my hard drive. Get to it Les, just don't be surprised when it hands you your b*lls and ego on a plate.

Any news when?
