Duke Nukem Forever footage sighted News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

6 June, 2008

The first footage of Duke Nukem Forever since 2001 has hit the Internet. Former Monolith boss Jason Hall landed the scoop in his self-titled show on Crackle, the Sony-owned video sharing site. You can also download it on Xbox Live.

The footage shows Hall take a trip to 3D Realms HQ and chat to studio founders George Broussard and Scott Miller. Both joke that their World of Warcraft habits are to blame for the seemingly everlasting development of Duke Nukem Forever, before letting Hall play the game for himself.

It all looks very Doom, but has plenty of gore and weird alien Half-Life-like monsters with big teeth and evil intentions.

Platforms and dates for Duke Nukem Forever are still to be formalised; most recent word was the usual line-up of PC, PS3 and 360, with an "internal" goal to be finished by the end of the year.

Head over to Crackle for the "Jace Hall Show" video. The 3D Realms coverage starts after about three minutes.

I posted this on my blog yesterday, and the page was hammered with hits within an hour. I thought interest in this game had disappeared (just like I thought the game had).

"Footage is first-person rather than third, as in Duke Nukem 3D."

Er... which version were you playing mate. I could have sworn it was 1st person...

I really can't decide whether to be excited or not. It's been a long time coming and it's been such a long time since DN 3D, and since then there have been some truly awful DN games.

Well it is actual gameplay footage. Still not 100% convinced this game isn't the longest running practical joke ever, though.

Despite the nay-sayers crying 'No-one cares anymore!', people care a hell of a lot about this game, there will always be a massive amount of attention paid to it due to the nature of what it is.

Clips don't show much though really.

@towser
he means it's the same as DN3D as opposed to the third person console ones, it's an ambiguous statement though.

I wonder (if it surfaces) if this could be a breath of fresh air. Considering the penchant for oh so serious brown and grey shooters recently, perhaps Duke Nukem's stupidly technicolour silliness would be a tonic for the FPS scene.

'What the f-- is taking it so long?'

Even if that was staged, that was hilarious.

So was the footage. Guess I can now stop looking forward to this game.

Looking at the GFX, it's not anything other than quite pretty, but the animations look very fluid.

Well, I'm more or less neutral on this game. What DOES interest me is the release of Duke Nukem 3D HD on XBLa this summer. It is made of fucking awersome and will be a highlight of this year for me.

DN3D on XBLA? Guaranteed purchase from me if they do. Looks like it'll be Christmas at the earliest though.

DN4E might be by Easter 2009:

Personally, I'd look forward to a new Serious Sam game. Croteam are working on a new game on Serious Engine 3 that will be published by Gamecock (_Stop sniggering!_).

I found a beaten up copy of SS2 the other day and put it in my PC to find it can now run at about a billion frames per second at 1200x1600. It still looks glorious, mainly due to those lovely Sega blue skies. More blue skies in games!

Yes, Serious Sam, TF2, Battlefield Heroes. There's plenty of colourful FPS games out there. Most of them didn't take over a decade to make though.
