Crysis 360 denied

Comments were 'speculative'.

Electronic Arts has once again denied reports that Crysis is in development for Xbox 360, despite claims in the US press that it was discussed in some detail at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month.

Several members of the 1UP podcast staff had recounted discussions at CES, where it was said that a Crysis 360 game would take place in the same universe but - due to the relative inferiority of the console's graphics API compared to the DirectX 10 basis of the PC version - would also need to take a different path in gameplay terms.

EA has since responded by explaining that any comments made about Crysis on another platform were "purely speculative", with Crytek only currently working on a PC version - due out later this year.

It's certainly not the first time a multi-platform approach has been mooted though, with the game's lead artist telling us last October that he was confident the game could port. "I'm pretty sure it would be interesting for us to do stuff on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360," Michael Khaimzon had said. "We would just have to see how much of a sacrifice to the game we'd have to make."

First! really stopped being funny in 1999. It then stopped being funny through irony around Tuesday lunchtime, 2000.

People who post "first!" are useful. As you know they have nothing interesting to say and no life, so you can happily add them to your ignore list.

I wonder why neither Microsoft or Sony opted for somewhat cheaper memory types at bigger quantities in their consoles? I mean, the Xbox 360 has some lightning speed 512 MB GDDR3 memory, while the Playstation 3 has 256 MB of XDR + 256 MB GDDR3 memory. Why not just go with 1 GB of semi-fast (5300?) DDR2 memory? That way they might be able to squeeze in a game like Crysis on a console without resorting to shoebox levels..

While Gears of War could never be called ground breaking per se, from a technical point of view it displayed what could be done with the Unreal3 engine on a console.

How it fares with wide open areas remains to be seen but the fledgling first time effort, technically limited by being also released on last gen, Just cause has shown the scale of what can be achieved - with Avalanche having a fantastic looking engine in the pipeline as shown in edge about 9 issues ago or so.

Think the hardest thing to do efficiently on the console will be the interactive foliage. As the collision must be pretty mathematically intensive if every bullet interacts with all foliage (within noticeable viewing distance obviously).
