Champions Online dated for PC

MMO suffers micro-slip into summer.

Atari and its recent acquisition Cryptic studios have announced that they'll release their superhero MMO Champions Online for PC on 14th July in Europe and North America.

That's more or less on schedule - the game was previously expected in "spring" or "June".

An Xbox 360 version has previously been discussed by Cryptic, but since being taken over by Atari the studio has reverted to vague talk about a possible release for "consoles", and firm release plans only exist for PC at present.

You can find hands-on impressions, interviews, screenshots and tons more information at the Champions Online gamepage.

I'll stick with CoH unless this is perfectly polished at launch.

Was this MMO developed in less than 2 years or am I missing something?

Maybe, but lets face it though, theyre pretty well versed in the MMO superhero field. This is more akin to Blizzard releasing a new wow product every 2 years. Im really looking forward to this for some reason. The swinging video i saw the other day reminded me so much of Spiderman 2 on the XBOX and i really loved that game :)

Champions online has been in development less than 2 years, yes technically.

It was originally going to be the online marvel game so they presumably spent time building the engine and the online archetecture then when marvel pulled out they just had to do champions themed assets and refine the gameplay.

Their engine is apparently so good that Star Trek online will be out in 2-3 years instead of the 3-5.

I want this released and out the way so they can spend more time on Star Trek Online. Not that I won't play CO or anything, but I'll be spending more time in STO.

From what I've seen of it, CO looks suspiciously like it's built on the CoH engine with tweaks... Notice some of the animations are identical.

Oh Atari. When will you learn?

This looks great, and considering the time spent on City of Heroes I see now reason why this can't be as good.

Sods, i wanted to play it on 360 :(

360 would have been nice - where's the PC beta? For a July release you'd think they'd have mentioned it somewhere:(
