Burnout gets Euro date

Late January. Smashing.

EA has told Eurogamer that Burnout Paradise will be out here on 25th January.

It follows word from late October that it will be on US shelves on 22nd, complimented by demos for PS3 and 360 sometime this month.

Burnout Paradise is the most ambitious outing in the series so far, presenting car crashers with an open world to zoom around, triggering races by stopping at streetlights or jumping through hoops and that sort of lark. The emphasis being on doing things at your pace and not in a rigid order. Free your minds.

You will also be able to invite your friends over to your world and have an automobile pyjama party, without any loitering in lobbies and all that palaver - they appear on your roads and drive around until you fancy a race.

Very promising is the general consensus, so pop over to our Burnout Paradise gamepage and crash yourself in information.

This is definitely a game I can see myself spending a lot of hours in.

Does anyone know if this game is focusing on dangerous driving a la Point of Impact (yay!), or car combat a la Takedown/Revenge (boo!)?!

We're in Europe now, expect delays for everything being released from now on. Simply because we have to wait until the 'continent' gets its SKUs as well, while we could've had the game the same time as the US - let's face it, "colour" is spelled "color" and "night" is spelled "nite" in all 'UK English' games - because no conversion is really attempted by the developers (we can all play NTSC now as well, so PAL will probably get dropped at some point, too).

Welcome to the United States of Europe!

If traffic checking is still there I'll be giving it a miss. Otherwise, count me in.

"we can all play NTSC now as well"

    I can't!

I am still not convinced i am going to like this game. The old Burnouts were fine and worked very well. It was all about the racing. Why jump on the Need for Speed / TDU bandwagon. The driving round part just isn't Burnout to me.

Does anyone else feel like this ??

I still think the first one was the best but I am mildly excited by this :)

I tink traffic checking is in but only for some of the cars. Most fun part will be the mugshots, they are funny
  • Inspirius #11 4 years ago

Demo is supposed to be available next week.

Since when can you play NTSC games on a EU 360? They're still all region locked, an odd few come out region free but that's it

    Zedee: Try reading comprehension...

The game is out in North America in January too! We're getting it THREE DAYS LATER. If you're still complaining from that then grow up please.

My No.1 most anticipated game of 2008.

It most definitely is, just slightly differently to the balls up that was in the last game.
  • JJrabbit #16 4 years ago

Pardon my ignorance but what's traffic checking? I've only played Burnout Takedown, for a short amount of time. Thought it was a great game and am looking forward to this one.

The demo will be out next week for both systems, there's a demo countdown for next Thursday at Criterion's site.

It's released only 3 days later in Europe, that's a totally reasonable release date. Anyway, PS3 gamers can import a copy if they want since all PS3 games are region free.

Traffic checking is a gameplay mechanic they introduced in Burnout Revenge, where non-racing cars (about the same size and going the same way as yours) can be bumped into and be used as "bullets" to hit your opponents...

    Hope that's clear...

This has the potential to be great fun.

I've been trying to crack Flatout: UC, so this will be good preparatory work for Paradise, hopefully.

Thanks JonFE, I think I understand. Simply by the sound of it, I'd rather it not be incorporated, but not really a deal breaker. Still going to get this unless reviews suggest otherwise.

Burnout 2 was by far the best Burnout, imo.

    @ zedzee.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. You're saying the UK is Americanised and will be more so in the future, and then welcoming us to a United States of Europe. o_O

    @BM

PGR4, Halo 3, Orange Box and Mass Effect are all region free also. It looks like the 360 games are becoming region free more and more now.

I'm not arguing this, I got hold of a region free copy of Call of Duty 3 last year. I'm asking zedzee how you can play NTSC games on an EU 360. As far as I know you can't

ntsc is a picture standard. 60hz is ntsc, 50hz is pal. simple as that.
play in hd, though, and standards are the same. so the ntsc/pal thing only applies to low-def gaming.

most lowdef 360 games require 60hz now to play, so technically are running ntsc picture format.

edit: i think zedzee may have been on about ps3 anyway not 360, although to make a uk game from a us all hat needs to be changed is the region code

    @BM

Ahh ok! But i think he meant just our tvs can accept 60hz "NTSC" now.

Was looking foward to a christmas online of this & COD4. With the exception of COD4 burnout revenge was the most fun i've had on live (an that was the 1st game i owned for the 360), IMO those 2 games stand head & shoulders above all other games on live. At least we don't have to wait to long after christmas to get our hands on it, was expecting the worst when they said it wouldn't be out till the end of January in the states a while ago, but 3 days is great. IMO the open world style of this game (like TDU) will be fantastic.
