Beatles: Rock Band is selling well News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Ellie Gibson

Guitar Hero 5 may be topping the UK charts this week, but The Beatles: Rock Band is also doing very well thank you.

That's according to Viacom boss Philippe Dauman, speaking in an investors' call (as reported by Industry Gamers).

"It's been terrific. The sales have exceeded our internal expectations," he said. "In the first week we've sold about 25 per cent of our inventory, and we've had tremendous excitement around this game."

Eurogamer's own Johnny Minkley has indeed been tremendously excited, giving the game 9/10. and he's not the only one, said Dauman.

"The reviews have been incredible... It really is a work of art. The game delivers in all respects and we think it's going to have legs."

Apparently The Beatles: Rock Band is "selling well across all platforms", with the PS3 price cut giving that version a particular boost.

They're even managing to shift the $249 limited edition set, said Dauman. "[It's] selling really fast and it looks like we'll be selling out of that in November, so if any of you are interested in buying that you'd better hurry up," he added, not sounding a bit desperate at all.

It is brilliant. It deserves to sell well, they obviously put a lot of hard work in to it.

Does anyone know when the DLC is going to be available?

SPLHCB in November?? Excellent - but how will they fit when I'm 64 into the format?

I don't know but there will be a few tracks that won't quite work, eg. Because from the Abbey Road album, there's no drums in it. Sun King has no vocals either.

@Goodfella:

There have been a couple of tracks for Rock Band 2 that don't have vocals. Few of the Stevie Ray Vaughn ones, a Yngwie Malmstien track, a Rush track and one of the Pearl Jam tracks don't from what I can remember. They're not available to select when there's a vocalist in the band, so it'll probably be similar for Beatles tracks. Revolution No. 9 is going to be a tricky one though, should they have a go at the White Album.

Dunno about the situation on the ground in the UK, but they botched the Australian release pretty badly. The X360 bundle basically sold out in an hour or two - some chains couldn't even fill their preorders with the initial shipment.

I'm glad to read this news. I was geniunely worried Activision and the Beatles might all end up broke!

I have to admit I was expecting stellar sales of this, but I think it really is true that it'll have legs.

I have to agree with the first comments. There has been a lot of research put into this game and it has been very enjoyable and very informative at the same time. If Rock Band continue to make games with this level of attention then Guitar Hero will certainly die off, just compare the crowds in both games, activision use horrible cloned and looped animations where screaming girls have to be held back by security in RB!

Really love this game, already completed it but i am going to revisit it over and over!!

Looking forward to the DLC, prices seem a little excessive but all sounds good, hopefully they release more tracks, i want Hey Jude in the collection!

People should remember as well that Guitar Hero 5 also comes with a bonus copy of Guitar Hero World Tour until the end of October. Hence why it shot to the top of the charts over Beatles (Which only had single copy and band bundles available).

I'd Imagine that if they had Gretsch/Rickenbacker + Game bundles, it would have shifted a bit more. But I'd imagine it will shift more before Christmas alongside Lego Rock Band.
