Assassin's Creed finished

Due out on...ah! Cheating!

Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed is gold and will be released on 16th November for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In a short missive to the press, Ubi stated that the stealth action game, which plunges players into a ruthless 12th century Holy Land and tasks them with eliminating key figures, will be rated 15 by the BBFC.

"We've been working very hard for nearly four years to make Assassin's Creed a reality and now there is a confirmed date when players will get to experience the results of our efforts," said producer Jade Raymond, who will be in London on Saturday to show it off.

"This is a huge event for the team. Our biggest reward will be everyone having a lot of good, solid fun."

For more on Assassin's Creed, check out our E3 first impressions. Or, you can read about a forumite's exclusive trip to Ubisoft Montreal to play the game, or pop along to Fuse 07 next week for a live gameplay demo.

However, as Raymond herself said recently, an actual downloadable demo won't be happening, so you'll have to hang about for our review if you want to know more. Watch out for that as the official release date approaches.

This is going to be another vicitim of 'releasing too many good games at once' syndrome for me...
  • mkreku #2 4 years ago

Hmm.. wait, what? I thought this was coming out on PC also? Of course, there's probably not much shooting so I'll do fine with the Xbox controller also, but I prefer to play games on my PC.
  • X201 #3 4 years ago

    No demo?
    /sets alarm to DefCon 4

  • skillian #4 4 years ago

I too am wondering what's happening with the PC version. It's a little annoying the way EG sometimes ignores this format in news/reviews.
  • DUFFMAN5 #5 4 years ago

So note to self complete Simpsons then trade in and get A.C.
Looking forward to both, for different reasons.

We need a major holiday season somewhere around June so these companies dont have to stack up their best games in Oct/Nov for Xmas.
  • Brianstorm #7 4 years ago

got a feeling this will be a 6 ot 7 out of 10....
  • viper_h #8 4 years ago

Same day as Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect and Crysis? Ugh...
  • penhalion #9 4 years ago

    @Scimarad
You're assuming this is actually a good game. I've yet to meet anyone (and I go to the dev shows etc. etc.) outside of the actual ubisoft team that have actually played it as opposed to being shown a demo or a walkthrough.

I'll wait till I've played a demo of it before I...oh wait they aren't releasing a demo for some reason are they. I believe the saying is all mouth and no trousers. I'm also past the infatuated boy stage, where an attractive woman could convince me to buy cack by flashing her eyes.

Unless this oxford street thing is an actual hands on by real people I'll simply ignore this until I can play it myself. I suspect that the lead up to an assasination is actually hugely boring in reality

Mass Effect is out on 23/11/07

Assasins Creed will be sensational and will go head-to-head with Mario Galaxy for the top spot!

I wouldn't be surprised if Assasins Creed gives Mario a run for his money for the highest sales....It's like a medi-evil GTA!

I still want Mazza to make number 1 though! ;-)

    @penhalion

I know people who've played it, they loved it.
  • Socrates #12 4 years ago

I am really anxious to know if this will be the first game with a PS3 and XBOX360 version that are of equal quality. IIRC the PS3 version was the first format it was announced for, but I fear framerate issues compared to the XBOX360 version.
  • Wayne #13 4 years ago

What about updating the release date page then? Eh? Eh? :0)
  • Wayne #14 4 years ago

Btw, for all the PC fans, it was already posted on EG News that the PC version has been delayed until 2008.
  • Triggerhappytel #15 4 years ago

Surprising. I must admit, I was really expecting this to be delayed until 2008.

I hope it's good. I'm still not entirely convinced from what I've seen, even though the concepts sound excellent.

    Jade?!

Hmm... might be busy then :oP

If you trawl around a bit - there are groups of folk who have been invited to ubisoft to play - check neogaf threads on assasins creed.

anyway, their reviews of been gushingly positive.

Actually Fab4, I think that is a great idea. Christmas *2 / year sounds really good to me.

I want this to be good, but I fear it will be another Heavenly Sword...
  • Zaltan #23 4 years ago

Sucks about the PC version getting delayed... I just upgraded my PC mainly for Crysis, so I'm not happy at all.

I've not seen anything so far to suggest it'll be anything other than a 7. Although Eurogamer gave Halo3 a 10 so... it'll probably get 17. I cannot rid my mind of an awful gameplay video which saw the main character locked in a room and forced to fight five crappy looking NPC enemies. Snooze. That set off alarm bells for me.

The most positive comments I've seen to date are here in this thread :D

I do of course hope it's great, for the theme sounds interesting enough. We all know great game ideas and solid implementation do not go hand in hand without a lot of effort, skill and slice of luck. Jade did it all.

"I want this to be good, but I fear it will be another Heavenly Sword..."

I loved Heavenly Sword, its just that it was over in one session. From some stories I've heard however, if you just do assassination levels the game last around 15 hours.

And I'm only getting it because it'll be the only slightly realistic medieval sandbox game out there... Unless anyone knows of any others?

You could do a lot worse than get a copy of Thief III for the xbox. It plays on the 360. Brilliant game and atmosphere
  • the_sas_man #27 4 years ago

Cn somone explain something to me please.

They said that they can't do a demo because logistically its impossible as its a 'sandbox' game.

Yet they are showing off a demo next week at the event? Why can't they release that one?
  • Quine #28 4 years ago

    zuljin:

I'm going to get Heavenly Sword this weekend purely because it looks like a fun once-through cinematic button-masher to play while drunk. I'm not expecting anything of lasting value there.

I suspect AC will be the same- I'm afraid the promised 'sandbox' part will just be a repetitive parkour moves over tiled cities and little real freeform gameplay in how you approach situations. I'm hoping to be, er, disappointed(?) though, but this looks like another game based on a couple of trumpeted cool things (crowds, 'climbing') but without enough fine-grained components to make it truly sandbox.
  • viper_h #29 4 years ago

Play.com says 16th for Mass Effect. My bad.
  • KingOfIceland #30 4 years ago

No thanks, I'll just play CoD4 and Mass Effect
  • Freek #31 4 years ago

They aren't showing off a demo at the event, they are bringing the latest build of the game and showing a bitt of that.
  • paulf #32 4 years ago

'obviously gonna be a 4, I can tell by just reading the game's name'

can we stop pre-empting scores for games that we havent played - its all a bit silly really
  • the_sas_man #33 4 years ago

no-one had played Halo 3 untill it practical release - yet people will saying how great it was.

The same can be said of Mass Effect.

    So whythe Assassins Creed hate?
  • Kropotkin #34 4 years ago

I think this game is set in the future despite the crusaders setting. From what I've so far seen there are references to DNA coding and odd VR like code being emitted from NPC's as the player runs through the streets of medieval Middle Eastern cities. My bet its some kind of training thing for a futuristic spy-to be that is required to play through some VR simulation but I may be completely wrong.

As for releasing the game now I think it will get buried with all the other AAA titles the game industry has decided to dump on us within a 6 week period and will end up on the same place Beyond Good and Evil went. Bargin Bin City, party of one, Bargain Bin City, party of one.

  • Les #35 4 years ago

Couldn't care less about this game. The ridiculous sci-fi plot completely ruins it for me.

You don't get a lot of 'plonker' these days. Good work.

Might give it a go, wasn't impressed with Thief one. And its reall the sandbox aspect that appeals. Me wantee crackdown in medieval times!

I suspect too, but I'm allowed to hope :) There seemed to be a number of scenes outside on horseback too, so I'm hoping for a morrowind-esque world (not as elaborate) outside, and having zelda like "danger areas" in cities. I don't live far from the presentation tomorrow, so I may go and have a look at the live demos...
