Ass Creed PS3 patch soon

To deal with "freeze issues".

Ubisoft has said to expect a patch for Assassin's Creed on PlayStation 3 "as soon as possible".

The patch will deal with "freeze issues" affecting "some consumers" trying to play Ubisoft Montreal's latest - and the UK's current chart-topper.

"This update will help improve the stability of the game and will be released as soon as possible," the bits of the forum post made by the publisher's UK community manager that we haven't quoted in paragraphs one and two added.

"In the meantime thank you for your ongoing feedback and patience."

Which is of course followed by lots of people saying things like "I'm don't believe it till I see it" and so on.

One good question was whether or not the update will be downloadable away from the PlayStation Network, since that facility is available on PS3 for firmware updates, but at the time of writing Ubisoft hasn't responded to that particular query.

We'll let you know when the patch goes live. For more on the enjoyable, albeit rather repetitive Assassin's Creed, turn your eyes to our Assassin's Creed review.

    PS3lol.

Sorry, I just work in a games shop and got sick of people bringing Assassin's Creed back on PS3 at the weekend because it barely loads up.
  • clean515 #6 4 years ago

I only had one freeze with "ass creed" and with Pro evolution 2008 i had about 10 !

I've had it freeze once or twice - it seemed to freeze when reading/writing to the disk just after a save point...

The freezing on ps3 is bad. Haven't had many to be honest but even so...

But, rather that than worry the xbox is about to die on me whenever that screws up during a game.

I own a 360 and love every minute playing on it, but after suffering the RROD you do have a point!

This game and the awful PES 2008 make me so glad that I own an Xbox 360 to play multiformat games on too. I think my PS3 is a great games machine but I think I'll stick with buying excellent exclusives like Ratchet and Clank ToD and Uncharted on the system and continue buying all my multiformat games for the 360. It's clear to me that many multiformat developers are struggling to get their games running to the same standard on the PS3 as the 360. Hopefully things will improve in time, if only so that PS3-only owners can play games that are as good as on the 360. If a PS3 multiformat game isn't more buggy, it seems to suffer from more framerate issues, aliasing and v-sync tearing than the 360 equivalent and that's somewhat disappointing for a console that launched a year later.
  • seasidebaz #16 4 years ago

funnily enough, i kept getting microsoft's "wonderboy" halo3 freeze on me on level 3, i'm not the only one it happened to either, but that doesn't warrant a patch
  • smoothpete #17 4 years ago

Does it fix the "humping guard" and "sideways horsey" bugs?
  • septimus #18 4 years ago

I hope it doesn't mess things up for those of us who's copies are just fine.

Man this site is 360 fanboy heaven. I bought Mass Effect on Friday and it has some of the worst loading and texture issues of any game I have ever played, yet you don't hear the trolls piping up then. Nope, they just come to a news post on a PS3 patch.

You lot really need to get out more. You're becoming like Mac users but have even less basis to stand on for it.

septimus, sounds like your 360 am teh shit, no such problems here.
  • Moz #20 4 years ago

septimus, glad to see it's not just me that thinks like that!

Seeing the adverts for Dirt on this thread remindme how much better it is on PS3 then 360, but again that gets ignored by the Xbots.

What winds me up more though is that everyone seems to be slating Sony for this when it's Ubi that have release a buggy game.

God help us if they ever release Mass Effect on the PS3 then. 360's most hyped game after Halo suffers from all of the above.
  • Bumhug360 #23 4 years ago

"Man this site is 360 fanboy heaven. I bought Mass Effect on Friday and it has some of the worst loading and texture issues of any game I have ever played,"

Agreed, the texture issues are amazingly bad. Was talking to some woman for a while and suddenly her eyebrows appeared, it scared the hell out of me, thought she was being attacked by face eating caterpillars
  • Darren #24 4 years ago

@RamblinSydRumpo - Ah but Mass Effect isn't available on the PS3 and if it was what would be the betting that it would be even worst? :p

I've been playing Mass Effect for 20 hours and although the tearing/framerate issues are somewhat disappointing for a major release, I've not encountered any freezes or major bugs that have prevented me enjoying the game, which is surely the point when games like Assassin's Creed and PES 2008 are crashing people's PS3s? ;)

P.S. The texture load issues are very minor for me in Mass Effect, certainly less problematic that the tearing and hitching. Mind you, my 360 does have the BenQ DVD drive which is claimed to be slightly faster than the other two so might reduce it somewhat.

The craziest thing I've come across on Ass Creed so far, was a rooftop guard, quite happily, laying horizontally across the floor, spinning, always spinning, like he was breakdancing, it wasn't until I whacked him with my sword that he actually acknowledged me.
Ohh and for the crazies out there (Septimus), I'm pretty sure Mass Effect's many little bugs are actually mentioned, not only in EG's actual review, but many times throughout its comment section too.
And yes Moz we're all aware of Dirt's superiority on the PS3, I mean, it gets brought up by some SDF member in every single multi-format debate on here doesn't it? Along with the other PS3 gem, Oblivion.
Of course we'll ignore the fact that ALL of these multi-format titles, rather than the 2 or 3 at the moment, SHOULD be looking better than their 360 equivilant, after all the PS3 is far more powerful, right?
  • BBIAJ #28 4 years ago

Oblivion coder already said on here that it's not that the PS3 is more powerful, just that they spent more time on it, but I get your point ;o)
  • mrraspy #29 4 years ago

xflop 3 shitty. a pathetic failed console in japan and mainland europe. say what you like about europeans and japanese, but they've got class and clearly see a piece of shite when they see one. as for americans and brits, well just take a look at them, no wonder this shitty console is popular in these two countries.
  • Moz #30 4 years ago

"SHOULD be looking better than their 360 equivilant, after all the PS3 is far more powerful, right?"

Not at all the Xenos is a lot better then RSX, So 360 games should look better then PS3 the problem is that few multiplat devs can be bothers to do separate models for each platform which as most dev is currently started on 360 mean the PS3 versions suffer more from frame rate and v-sync issues. Dirt and Oblivion are examples of what can be done on PS3 is a dev can be bothered.

Both systems have some very pretty games and both have games that are glitchy as anything (This includes Halo 3 - I want my 200 od GPs for completely the game but it just refuse to acknowledge it, grrr).

Just get annoiied when it's a third party game and people start blaming the hardware when there are plenty of games that show the hardware works fine
  • deepmenace #31 4 years ago

xbots = younger average age = more inane trolling
    ps3 owners = older

    it makes sense.
  • seasidebaz #32 4 years ago

guess what the ibm 500ghz chip is better than the xenos... so all games would look better on that, and engadget states that it will appear in ps3's in 2011 look:

Anyone who self-identifies with a piece of electronics hardware of any description is a muff.

Also, please note for the record that Assassin's Creed is disappointing.
  • jlaakso #35 4 years ago

I've had a single PS3 freeze (Ratchet & Clank) and have had to return three 360s, but then again, there's so little to play on the PS3 that it hasn't really had a chance to underperform yet.

With Assassin's Creed, though, I haven't had any issues, if you're able to look past the disappointing tearing and framerate.
  • Darren #36 4 years ago

BBIAJ - "DiRT on PStriple has less geometry though, worse lighting, and less grass."

Given how poor the framerate is at times in the 360 version and with the amount of tearing it has, I'd still argue that the PS3 version is superior because it has forsaken stuff that is barely noticeable (based on comparisons of the demos on both formats) for a smoother running game. That's good in my book... I wish all developers would try and get the balance between graphics and technical values right instead of pushing the hardware to its limits all the time just for the sake of prettier screenshots for the game box. ;)
  • Artemis_Matsas #37 4 years ago

Well, i've completed the 1st assasination with all the sidequests completed, and i'm currently in the middle of the 2nd, again trying to complete every sidequest.
So far i've had no freezing issues.
Does anyone know where these problems occur?
(For the record, i'm playing it on my PS3)
  • Darren #38 4 years ago

@seasidebaz - That article you linked to was written in June 2006, some five months before the PS3 launched in the US! LOL
  • seasidebaz #39 4 years ago

@Darren: i know hehe just get annoyed about people going on about hardware specs... by the logic some people go on here, the wii must have the best gpu cos its damn well the only one that's consistently putting out games at pal widescreen resolutions without any upscaling required! look at it this way, the ps3 uses a similar thing to agp graphics, everything needs to be shoved through to the gpu before you do anything with it (edit: at any reasonable speed). the 360 is more like integrated graphics chips you find in laptops, the gpu reads certain parts of main system ram. both have their advantages, its just these lazy game devs who cant be bothered to optimize that make the games crap. too much of a reliance on the UE3 is a bad thing. and yes the cpu in the ps3 is a hell of a lot more powerful, it just takes time for the devs to re-learn assembler to get the most out of the spus...

  • ElasticTangent #41 4 years ago

Xbox and PS3 debate asside it's not the hardware that's making Assassins Creed freeze. It's the software. I can only imagine that Ubisoft knew something about this way before release cos it's a big problem for a lot of people. And the patch has been created in record time don't you think??
  • el_pollo_diablo #42 4 years ago

    @ElasticTangent

It may be the hardware - since the latest firmware patch, Assassins Creed has locked up on me many times, but oddly, so did SKATE. This has only happened once, but it never happened before the most recent update.

    So who knows...
  • penhalion #43 4 years ago

One of those ultra embarassing thigs given we were told the BEST programmers worke on the PS3 version.....They may want to re-define their list of best.
  • Lawlost #44 4 years ago

No No No this is exactly why I left pc gaming behind. You sit down to play a game and find you have to download the latest patch because lazy arsed programmers or more likely money men wanting it out by date x. Get it right first time.

    /rant over
  • Moz #45 4 years ago

@Lawlost I think your underestimating the complexity of the current gen systems.

While there are times like assassins creed where the code is in an unexceptible state. I do applord devs who spend the time to iron out little bugs after a title has been released. Even with the occasional updates to games console gaming is still alot less hassle then PC gaming
  • zuljin #46 4 years ago

    @penhalion
No that was Infinity Ward that said that about COD4.
  • Bumhug360 #47 4 years ago

"No that was Infinity Ward that said that about COD4."

Yup it was, great way to motivate staff as well, imagine if you worked on the PC or 360 version!
  • Zanuah #48 4 years ago

Great... though Im almost done with the game...

But yea, I've had quite a lot of freezes already... at least 10... IT seems to freeze at least once every time I have a play session.
  • ElasticTangent #49 4 years ago

@Zanuah - Same for me. At least once everytime I play.
  • bicky316 #50 4 years ago

"But yea, I've had quite a lot of freezes already... at least 10... IT seems to freeze at least once every time I have a play session."

"@Zanuah - Same for me. At least once everytime I play."

I'm not gonna bash "lazy" developers or any hardware, but surely everyone agrees that this is not acceptable!

"@Lawlost I think your underestimating the complexity of the current gen systems."

At least there is only 1 hardware configuration and not any software conflicts to worry about, imagine what coding for the PC must be like!
