Access WOW auction house on iPhone, web

Blizzard planning "premium" Armory service.

Blizzard is planning to integrate World of Warcraft's auction house with its Armory platform, giving players out-of-game access to Azeroth's economy from web browsers and iPhones.

"Today, we wanted to give you a heads-up about a new service now in development that will let players access the Auction House directly through the Armory website or Armory App for iPhone or iPod touch. While there are still plenty of details to be worked out, we're designing the service to offer auction functionality similar to what's available in-game," said Blizzard's community manager "Bornakk" in a post on the official forums (via WoW.com).

You might, however, be waiting a while for this service - and you might have to pay extra for it, with Bornakk mentioning the dreaded word "premium".

"This is a fairly complex service to develop, due in large part to its unprecedented integration with the game, so we don't have an exact release date yet. It's important to note here that certain elements of the service will be premium-based, which we'll go into more detail on once the service functionality is finalised," he said.

"As with all of the services we offer, we plan to integrate the Auction House and Armory in a way that won't disrupt the gameplay experience, and we won't release it until it meets the quality standards that we've set for our other features and services."

I've just quit WoW. 1 week clean and sober and it feels great!

This won't be enticing me back though.

    Be strong... be strong.

I was clean for over a year until they enticed me back with 7 free days. I just thought I'd have a little peek at how things have changed and now I'm hooked again. Damn you Blizzard, damn you to hell!

Hopefully this will be a one time app purchase and not an additional monthly subscription.

I quit WOW once I found out I was addicted to an auction house plug-in (Auctioneer). It was a silly addiction, like a trading simulator. Logging in and out just o make virtual money. Now I'm clean for two years and the air smells great outside.

This headline grabbed my attention and made me click though :)

Exact same thing happened to me.

I don't see how a 'remote' AH helps the player in WoW, unless you can put stuff on the AH via it, but then the only soild use for it would be if your character wasn't in a home city, which probly Blizzard will limit you to anyway.

the ONLY soild use for this 'app' would be if your after a certain item and don't have access to WoW at work/about and your constantly looking at the AH for it, and then 99% of the time atm the only 'useful' upgrades/stuff is normally 5-14K of gold to buy, the market that this app is aimed at is the casual/time limted player who never has that amount of money anyway..

If Blizzard want to put useful apps to the iphone for the casual/time limited player, how about minigames that count towards your daily quests? (ofc offering less then ingame but still useful)

I'm actually surprised it's taken this long. I was suggesting this as an idea back before anyone had heard of an iphone.

I much prefer Blizzard's type of alternate revenue generation over the new MMOs.

This is a service which you can choose to pay for and if you do, then it'll probably be greatly beneficial to you. If not, no worries, you aren't really missing out on anything in the game.

I wish more companies would consider things like race changes and things that actually add value, rather than charging for each little bit of game CONTENT that we might want.

    and so it begins...
I expect to see lots of this sort of thing in future and current MMO's.
    :(
The danger is of course that gameplay suffers for those who don't cough up for these 'premium' features.
I have no problem funding future development or paying for the cost of running the game but stuff like this just makes me nervous about what they will try to charge for next.

Blizzard spend money making the app, and they will charge money for a full featured version. Sounds fair to me. :)

I'd imagine there will probably be a paid for version of the Armory app, which will feature the AH access, while the free one will be much the same as the current version.
