Access WOW auction house on iPhone, web
Blizzard planning "premium" Armory service.
Blizzard is planning to integrate World of Warcraft's auction house with its Armory platform, giving players out-of-game access to Azeroth's economy from web browsers and iPhones.
"Today, we wanted to give you a heads-up about a new service now in development that will let players access the Auction House directly through the Armory website or Armory App for iPhone or iPod touch. While there are still plenty of details to be worked out, we're designing the service to offer auction functionality similar to what's available in-game," said Blizzard's community manager "Bornakk" in a post on the official forums (via WoW.com).
You might, however, be waiting a while for this service - and you might have to pay extra for it, with Bornakk mentioning the dreaded word "premium".
"This is a fairly complex service to develop, due in large part to its unprecedented integration with the game, so we don't have an exact release date yet. It's important to note here that certain elements of the service will be premium-based, which we'll go into more detail on once the service functionality is finalised," he said.
"As with all of the services we offer, we plan to integrate the Auction House and Armory in a way that won't disrupt the gameplay experience, and we won't release it until it meets the quality standards that we've set for our other features and services."

the ONLY soild use for this 'app' would be if your after a certain item and don't have access to WoW at work/about and your constantly looking at the AH for it, and then 99% of the time atm the only 'useful' upgrades/stuff is normally 5-14K of gold to buy, the market that this app is aimed at is the casual/time limted player who never has that amount of money anyway..
If Blizzard want to put useful apps to the iphone for the casual/time limited player, how about minigames that count towards your daily quests? (ofc offering less then ingame but still useful)

This is a service which you can choose to pay for and if you do, then it'll probably be greatly beneficial to you. If not, no worries, you aren't really missing out on anything in the game.
I wish more companies would consider things like race changes and things that actually add value, rather than charging for each little bit of game CONTENT that we might want.

I expect to see lots of this sort of thing in future and current MMO's.
The danger is of course that gameplay suffers for those who don't cough up for these 'premium' features.
I have no problem funding future development or paying for the cost of running the game but stuff like this just makes me nervous about what they will try to charge for next.
