Battle Princess Madelyn is a lovely tribute to Ghouls N' Ghosts

Knight's watch.

With the Nintendo Switch just around the corner, For Honor proving popular and Horizon Zero Dawn looming on the, well, Horizon, it's safe to say there's a lot for us to cover at the moment. Nonetheless, I think it's important to stop every once in a while and look at the stuff that otherwise might be overlooked - the stuff we're playing in our spare time, for instance, or games that have caught our attention in other ways.

Recently I've been playing around with the demo for Battle Princess Madelyn, a side scrolling arcade game with more than a passing resemblance to the arcade version of Ghouls n' Ghosts. I absolutely loved back Capcom's classic platformer back in the day, even though I found it frustratingly hard, so I decided to throw together a quick Let's Play.

Battle Princess Madelyn pays heavy tribute to Arthur's adventures, with similar animations, enemies and a cool scan-line filter that produces a super nostalgic CRT monitor effect. Watch it in action below - apologies in advance for the dodgy Skeletor impression.
