Evidence for impending Star Wars: Battlefront 3 mounts

Recruitment ad, dev CVs add to breadcrumb trail.

Evidence continues to mount that a third entry in the Star Wars: Battlefront series is in development at Legendary: The Box developer Spark Unlimited.

As noted by PlayStation Lifestyle, a new job listing at the studio calls for a "senior combat designer for a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently greenlit for full production development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets."

The site also spotted the LinkedIn profile of a former senior software engineer that mentions time spent on an "unannounced third person sword fighting game (well known IP, Xbox 360, PS3)". *Cough* lightsabers *cough*.

On top of that, a further LinkedIn page belonging to another staffer lists a mysterious "AAA third person shooter using Unreal Engine and Kynapse AI middleware."

This isn't the first time we've heard chatter of a new Battlefront game being in the works at Spark. Late last year, the studio Tweeted about one of two unannounced titles it's currently working on.

"Publisher hasn't stated when or where the announcement will take place. The time and place could be close or far, far away," it read. Cryptic.

The previous entry in the Battlefront series came out on last-gen consoles back in 2005, developed by now-defunct studio Pandemic.

    Yes battlefront 3 is needed with more modes 1st person Lightsaber duels both film based and when running into a character in a battle.

    Their last two titles Turning Point and Legendary got 3/10 and 2/10 respectively from this very website.. Just throwing that out there for those that think this might be good news as it really isn't.

    It's pretty amazing no one has cashed in on this franchise this generation. My heart sank a little when I saw the developer :-(

    One thing i was BF3 had appropriated from Battlefront was the Galactic Conquest mode, it was a simple way to turn a bunch of unrelated, one-off battles into a far more epic rolling war.

    @FatalHybrid Very good point.

    I was hoping that if this got picked up it would be a Developer with a more credible catalogue of games behind them. If it is indeed Spark Unlimited working on this hopefully they've improved and this will be their Turning Point...

    But a long, long time ago some Battlefront footage was leeked which showed an already impressive game, so may be Spark Unlimited are just piecing everything together, I hope.

    It looked impressive but there were whispers that it actually wasn't very good to play (how true that is I don't know), certainly the game has been silent for a long time since that footage then so I imagine a lot will have changed since then.

    Some of you lot have me worried though with talk of this dev being a bit poo.

    As you can see from those videos Star Wars: Battlefront 3 is being made and will eventually be released. And I can't wait, its been a long time coming :).

    I never got on with the first two, and to be honest the constant scraping of the Star Wars barrel, leaves me cold. I'd rather see HD versions of the arcade games!

    I hope battlefront 3 isn't made on the unreal engine. The U3 engine is way too dated. It can't handle open environments especially with lots of things on screen. Even worse on PS3. I hope this is all nonsense.

    @bad09 I didn't hear how it actually played, I've got a huge fear that this could be the next Duke Nukem.

    As it has been rumoured to be sat with a number of developers over the years.

    So they took it away from a fairly well respeceted developer who make good games. Maybe not great games but good ones.

    And then hand it over tho the makers of Ledendary and Turning point 2 very bad games.

    Why not go the whole hog and hand it over to the makers of Bus simulator !

    I love the Battlefront games but seriously wish Star Wars would fuck off.

    Warhammer 40,000: Battlefront would be a much better game. I'd rather have the oppertunity to be a terminator armour clad monster and be able to use dreadnaughts as vehicles than ponce around as a jedi with a glowstick.

    Think of every aspect of the first 2 SW: Battlefront games, they would be much better if drawn from the 40K universe.

    Remember in Battlefront 2 where if you got a certain ammount of kills you could play as a hero charcter such as princess leia? Exactly.

    Those descriptions actually make me think of Force Unleashed more than Battlefront.

    And personally I wouldn't want Spark Unlimited anywhere near Battlefront, they are a TERRIBLE developer.

    Something between this and this, a X-Wing/TIE style game for ground forces, ala Hidden & Dangerous. That'd do me.

    (I didn't even know these mods existed !)

    A simple CoD/BF re-skin. An HD update of Battlefront. Build on the PSP titles. Take thon Galactic Warfare and add some polish, fire it on PSN(SEN)/XBL/Steam as a DL title. The ideas are easy and endless.

    Pity the powers that be will continue to arse it up, especially by handing it to sub-par developers.

    well you can tell Playstation Lifestyle that none of this is new,that tweet is(as you say from last year)from October and the job descriptions and CVs and Game descriptions are from before then


    i don't mind more articles on the subject though    ,we people on the LucasArts forums have been waiting long enough for this game,and been talking about all of the above since last April-ish..which was a year after the GameSpy servers listed Star Wars Battlefront III,which seemed to of come to nothing

    and FWIW-yes Spark did make Turning Point and Legendary,they also did Call of Duty:Finest Hour,which has 76 on Metacritic..so its a bit better for those mega concerned

    I once grilled two Pandemic employees I met at CES back in 2007 on whether there would ever be a Battlefront 3. They looked at each other briefly before both ruefully shook their heads. The implication was 'don't even go there mate'. Whether that was because it was so much work or whether they had been told unequivocally that the party was over, I'll never know...

    I would be happy with an HD reboot of the first two on live with online multiplayer. 24-32 player would be sufficient!
