Prototype 2 Radnet Edition grants "hours of additional gameplay"

Launch copies contain one-time use code. PC version delayed.

UPDATE: Radical Entertainment has announced the delay of the PC version of Prototype 2.

"Hey all, we just wanted to let you know that the PC version of Prototype 2 is unfortunately going to be delayed until July 24th," reads a note on Facebook.

"Radical Entertainment has always been extremely dedicated to all our fans, and we just wanted to make sure you heard the news from us FIRST. We'll share more details with you soon."

ORIGINAL STORY: Activision has announced the Prototype 2 Radnet Edition, which includes 55 pieces of addition content and "hours" of additional gameplay.

The Radnet Edition rekindles memories of Mass Effect's Cerberus Network, the online DLC and news network from EA.

What it amounts to is a "limited number" of the launch quantities of Prototype 2 on PS3 and Xbox 360 (no mention is made of the PC version) include a one-time use code that unlocks access to Radnet, which dishes out content over a period of seven weeks following the game's April launch.

All who pre-order the game are guaranteed the Radnet Edition of the open world action game at no extra cost.

The weekly scheduled content includes in-game events and challenges. There are bonus mutations (for use in the campaign) behind the scenes videos, Avatar items and PS3 dynamic themes to unlock, too.

The challenges add online leaderboards Prototype 2, which is a single-player only game.

If you play all of the weekly challenges and events you unlock the "ultimate shape-shifting reward," which developer Radical Entertainment is keeping under wraps.

Studio Head Ken Rosman said the Radnet Edition "is our way of rewarding the game's most loyal supporters - the early adopters, the ones who will replay it over and over again".

"We think this is great because we're giving our fans hours of additional gameplay outside Prototype 2's main narrative, and cool rewards - all delivered weekly following the game's launch!"

"the early adopters, the one's who will replay it"

Got a rogue apostrophe there, Wesley.

Anyway, I think this sounds fair, although in reality it's not so different to the Reckoning online pass. This just sounds like more of a reward and has been revealed in a less aggressive manner.

This sounds like some sort of seasonal pass for the single player, much like the online seasonal pass of Uncharted 3 or Gears of War 3.

I remember the days you bought a game and you got all of the content. Ah, memories...

Wow.. saved me some money! No buy. Looks like 2012 is going to be a cheap year.

It seems we have come that far ...
So now it's not enough to buy the game new to get the "online pass"?
I have to buy it day 1?
    Ridiculous!

Im looking forward to all those extra powers I will never use.

Powers like the anime tentacle wang.

This is more like it, introduce the pass to reward early adopters! This way, used buyers will have to fork out for the add-ons, whereas the new buyers will be rewarded. Sounds fairer than theh alternative anyway.

EDIT - Just read it properly, I thought ALL new copies would be getting the code.
I longer believe this to be right! In fact, this is the same bollocks that retailers have been pulling for the past year with their pre-order "incentives" only this fucks used buyers AND new buyers!

Sad times. Puts you right off gaming. Have some bloody community spirit. If you don't buy early your not a good fan, it's ridiculous. Good luck growing your fan base.

Probably not all up to them as Activision front the money etc. but devs and publishers really need to find another way. It's getting worse and I won't even give them a chance, just fed up with it.

While this is more tame it's pretty weak as well, leaderboards, behind the scenes, avatars, themes as some of the bonuses. Wow. Hold me back. I want to pay you to advertise for free.

    @javvyman

Except that new buyers will have to fork out too unless they preorder it, meaning they are unable to make a purchasing decision based on objective reviews.

Hmm.. So this takes away 55 'bits of content', which includes 'hours' of gameplay and puts them in a "limited special launch edition", which means that late adopters will never ever get that content, even if they pay the same price?

Kinda puts the Kingdom of Amuler(sp?) 7 exclusive quests for 1st-hand buyers debate that raged yesterday into perspective, doesn't it? At least you get that content no matter what! ;)

I thought all this stuff was supposed to stop second hand sales? Now with this, you can buy it brand new a week after release and not get the same game that everyone who bought the game a week earlier did. Could be quite irritating for those not put off by the fact its an Activision game.

Oh, and isn't it spelt 'rekindled'?

BUY OUR GAME ON DAY ONE OR YOUR PURCHASE WILL BE WITHOUT VALUE.

EVERYONE MUST BUY THE GAME AT THE SAME TIME AND HAVE THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE AT THE SAME TIME. YOU WILL LIKE OUR GAME IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AND FOR EXACTLY THE SAME REASONS AS EVERYONE ELSE.

    DEVIATION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I was quite interested in this. Acti can now eat a dick. Makes all the fuss over Reckoning seem a bit silly.
  • arcam #15 4 months ago

Buying new isn't good enough, you have to preorder.

"Not pre-ordering is killing the industry! Devs must put food on the table too!"

Why is everyone talking about this like it's an online pass? It's a DLC season pass. Pre-order the game and you get all the DLC for free. Every game should do that.

Edit: Actually, since this only lasts 7 weeks, is it going to be available to buy separately? Are in-game rewards at least going to available as DLC at some point? Follow up on this EG.

Come on, I support online passes, but limiting it to launch copies of the game is shit.
