The Just Cause movie is called Just Cause: Scorpion Rising

Hollywood Reporter claims Just Cause 3 is in development.

The Just Cause movie is called Just Cause: Scorpion Rising.

Bryan Edward Hill (Broken Trinity: Pandora's Box, 7 Days From Hell) is rewriting the script originally penned by Michael Ross, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As previously revealed, the movie focuses on the origin of The Scorpion, aka Rico Rodriguez.

Producers Adrian Askarieh and Eric Eisner are yet to take the film to movie studios or financiers. Last year the pair said they hoped the Just Cause flick would emulate Bond film Casino Royal.

Backing previous rumours, The Hollywood Reporter claims a third video game in the Just Cause series is in development. This was reportedly set for launch in 2012, but Avalanche told Eurogamer it will not release a game that year.

So, as of now, Avalanche hasn't confirmed Just Cause 3 as a project. The Swedish studio told Eurogamer it has two "huge" titles in development. Both are scheduled for 2013.

Of all the games in the world why do two games with such a limited, cliched, unoriginal and poorly told plot become worthy of a film? I couldn't even name you any characters outside of Rico and Baby Panay or whatever his name was.

There are so many games out there more worthy.

I love Just Cause 2 for the record, but certainly not for the woeful - which seems to have been the aim - story. Which to be fair was just a vehicle for the single player missions which in turn was just a vehicle for the fantastic sandbox gameplay.

@Syrette: I guess that's the whole point. When they make a videogame movie, it usually sucks and doesn't do justice to the game. But for Just Cause? They could simply make a standard action flick and say "hey guys, it's a JC movie" just to attract a few more viewers.

At least nobody can really complain if it ends up sucking. I mean, there wasn't much story or characters to ruin in the first place. And people will keep playing the games for the awesome sandbox gameplay, certainly not because of Rico. And nothing of value was lost. Also, with no expectations attached, we still get a chance that the movie will be a reasonably fun action flick.

I guess the two main reasons is the games sold well so they think people are interested and secondly it's very easy and cheap to turn it into a movie.

"The Just Cause movie will likely be canned next year like every other video game movie announced in the last 3 years."

Hollywood is rife with 'financing projects' that are barely more than scams, and game movies are prime candidates.

IMO this film will never be made, or if it does its makers will not care if it makes money or not, nor if it's any good. But a few people will get rich off it regardless, so it will have served its purpose.

As long as it has Ice-T in it in an entirely gratuitous role I'll probably watch it when it inevitably turns up in the remaindered DVD bin in Londis

@Syrette considering they've made a movie of Battleships even no story at all doesn't seem to put them off.

Bryan Edward Hill? Not THE Bryan Edward Hill? Famous for such blockbusters as Broken Trinity: Pandora's Box and 7 Days From Hell?

Sorry, I'm trying to show enthusiasm but I have no idea who this guy is and I've never heard of his two crowning achievements, neither has IDMB.
