Brink dev Splash Damage making Marvel game for Disney?
UPDATE: Splash Damage denies report.
UPDATE: Splash Damage boss Paul Wedgwood has taken to Twitter to deny today's report that the Brink developer is making a Marvel game for Disney.
"We're not working with Disney. We're not building a pop culture IP. We're only using Brink tech for Brink updates atm," he said.
ORIGINAL STORY: Brink maker Splash Damage is working on a new game based on "one of the biggest American pop culture brands of the last 50 years", according to IndustryGamers.
"The company has managed to sign at least one unannounced project for a major entertainment brand," the IndustryGamers report, written by GamesIndustry.biz editor Matt Martin, revealed.
"The online multiplayer technology is already in place, and once a collection of well-known characters are laid over the top of an even more polished Brink engine there's going to be a lot of excitement from genre fans.
"The game will be based on one of the biggest American pop culture brands of the last 50 years...."
The "media company" that owns this IP was "widely believed to have given up on the console publishing business".
That sounds like Disney, which dabbled with Pure and Split/Second, before closing Brighton-based developer Black Rock this year. And Disney recently bought Marvel, which certainly fits the bill of "one of the biggest American pop culture brands of the last 50 years".
The Brink engine provides a powerful base for Splash Damage's next game.

Lmao. Brink was unplayable for a couple of months after launch.

Hopefully they'll do better than they did with Brink. It's not like they don't have a good record pre-Brink.
I prefer Marvel characters to the DC lot so I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Denials, but with holes? He doesn't mention Marvel. Perhaps Splash Damage is not working with Disney, but with Marvel (even though Disney now owns Marvel).
He doesn't rule out Brink tech being used for the next game.
The comment about pop culture IP is harder to challenge - a Marvel licence would almost certainly fit that billing, wouldn't it?
