Konami teases new Contra game
"They're coming."
A brand new Contra game is on its way, judging by a tease at the end of Konami's pre-E3 showcase earlier this evening.
Right at the end of the show a fireball shot across the screen forming the iconic 'C' logo from the publisher's vintage run 'n' gun franchise, with "They're coming" written underneath.
That's all we've got for you so far – perhaps more details will emerge when E3 gets underway for real on Monday.
Late last year, the boss of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow dev Mercury Steam revealed that he had pitched a new 3D Contra game to Konami. Could it have taken the bait?
The last game in the main Contra series was the bruising Contra 4 on DS back in 2009, which criminally never secured a European release. However, this year's furious-but-fun Hard Corps Uprising on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade is considered a prequel to 1995 Mega Drive title Contra: Hard Corps.

If this is new a 3D Contra, how many attempts to make Contra in 3D will this make it? I think they've failed at least 4 or 5 times now. I hope whatever this new game is it keeps the ludicrous action intact, like riding on collapsing buildings or jumping from missile to missile as they fly through the air, etc. I hope they keep the freedom of movement and the ridiculous moon jumps intact as well, rather than make the main characters hulking space marines (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not how classic Contra played).
