The dragon section has to be one of the worst pieces of game design I've seen in a long time. It's very difficult if you pick it after playing in order, it's near impossible if that's the section you pick as you first start playing the game.

I too started with the dragon section on Hard mode. It was tough going for 15 minutes alright. The rest of the 3 hour epic prologue was infact spoiled by that first 15 minutes.
Man up.

And why is there no New Game+ option so I can start the game on level 32, only playing it on Hard instead of Normal?

Others however lack your totally awesome, amazing skills and had extreme difficulty with it.
It's a tutorial section, it's supposed to teach you about the game's mechanics. Not to assume you already know the mechanics and present you with a section where you'll die in the first 30 seconds 20+ times.

But hey, what do they know about playing games? They need to man up!
It's not about being "hardcore" it's about the fundementals of game design. If you throw people in at the deep end without teaching them to swim first, they're going to drown. If you throw another group of people into the deep end after a few swimming lessions, they won't drown. It's a simple concept that every other game producer grasps.
Even tougher games like Ninja Gaiden, Baldur's Gate or DMC3 ease you into the mechanics, giving you a chance to get a feel for the game before they get difficult.

I shouldn't have to loose my experience because people found 'extremely difficult' too difficult. I too died serveral dozen times in the opening few moments of the game but perseverance toward a challenge and hard work I guess are traits I demand from a game.
Moaning 'cause you're ice-cream is too cold is not justification to call the opening of a game broken. Tuff, yes. Easy, no. I enjoyed the trial and error. You didn't. That doesn't in any way mean your idea of "game mechanics" is any greater than mine

Fair dos to whoever managed it first go on insane difficulty without even taking any damage, but I got well and truly fucking roasted!

Least you die to well armed soldiers. I remember morrowind and those stupid slugs kickin the bollox outa me at the start of the game. Least I could run away, rob a few spoons, sell'em and come back with a mallet (that missed 94% of the time)
