June 2011 PlayStation Plus content

Welcome Back everyone.

Update: Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers are to be given another 10 days free on top of the 60 already announced. This breaks down to 30 days for compensate for May's PSN outage, 30 days as an apology and 10 days extra, wrote Sony on the EU PS blog.

Original story: If you own a PlayStation 3 you're entitled to June's PlayStation Plus content free of charge - it's part of Sony's Welcome Back to PSN package.

Your complimentary 30-day membership therefore entitles you to a free copy of Burnout Paradise. When your Plus subscription lapses, however, so does your entitlement to the game.

Other freebie-highlights include Streets of Rage 2 and Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers.

To be clear: new (free) PlayStation Plus subscribers are only entitled to June's content; the April content listed below is for existing Plus members who missed out because PSN was offline. Those existing PS Plus members have had 60-days of subscription-free membership credited to their accounts.

The free-for-all 30-day membership will be offered with the Welcome Back choice of two free games (to keep forever) soon.

    Im confused.

So basically, if you dont have + now, when you get it from the welcome back package, if I got something that was free for + mermbers, but NOT one of the free games you can get, do I lose the game?
  • varsas #2 12 months ago

Thanks for the article; it does clear things up for those new to PS+ like me.

@Nevfx Yes, you can only keep Infamous/LBP/Dead Nation/Ratchet/the other one. Your access to Burnout et al is revoked at the end of 30 days.
  • varsas #5 12 months ago

@Nevfx: Yes. "Welcome Back" games are free forever and are not linked to PS+. Games that are free to PS+ subscribers are only available while subscriptions are valid. Games that are free to PS+ subscribers during the April update are not available to new PS+ subscribers; the reason being that these games are only free for a specific period but available for the length of the subscription.

As far as i understand this when you get the free PS+ from the package you entitled to one of the PS+ games for free which you will keep even after it has run out(including anything you bought over PS+) however you will no longer have any PS+ benefits anymore. so basically for those without PS+ get 3 free games overall and some offers on other games/items. Does that help #1?

I love me some Rotating Octopus Character's!!
  • RawNinjaKid #8 12 months ago

And that's why we love you Sony!!
  • coderkind #9 12 months ago

So I can claim Burnout now but still have to wait on the "proper" free games to become available?
  • Toothball #10 12 months ago

Why is Rob sounding particularly cockney today?
  • Malek86 #11 12 months ago

So wait... does that mean that, even though we are supposed to be PS+ members, we can only access different deals from previous PS+ users? I'm a bit confused here.
  • schnide #12 12 months ago

    @Toothball

Because he's unprofessional and a bit embarrassing?
  • FlipC #13 12 months ago

Think of the 'free' games as being rentals that are covered by your subscription price. While you're a subscriber you can access them; leave and you can't. The discounts only count for the period given, but once the games are bought they're yours beyond the subscription. The themes and avatars are the only real free thing here as you get to keep them if you unsubscribe.

The Welcome Back package of a choice of two from five games (three of which I already own thank you very much Sony) is apparently a separate deal which you can only claim within 30 days of it going on offer. Those games you get to keep.
  • varsas #14 12 months ago

@Malek86: The deals for PS+ subscribers change with each update; as a new subscriber one would have access to the deals from the existing update onwards. As someone who will have PS+ due to the PSN outage I will have access to the update due for this month and not the update for last month since that would normally have expired but it's been extended due to the outage.
  • Weebleboy #15 12 months ago

If I buy something with a + discount, is it then mine forever. Or does it also expire after the 30 days?
  • IonOnion #16 12 months ago

If you bought it with a + discount its yours without expiring since its not linked to PSN+.
  • mss99 #17 12 months ago

To clarify for those who are not PS Plus members:

    - You get a choice of two free games from a choice of 6. These will not expire.
    - You get 30 days free PS Plus access. You can access the new June content but do not have access to the content that was available in April, prior to your subscription (This is the same for PS plus members that can't access free plus content from before they joined).
    - Anything free you download game wise will expire at the end of your 30 plus subscription. You do not get access to the content for the full 30 days if you download it part way through your 30 day subscription as it will still end with your subscription.
-Anything purchased under the PS Plus discount is yours and will not expire.
    - Avatars and themes that are free should not expire.
    - If you take out a further subscription in the future your content will become activated again and you will be able to use it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Schmoke-n-a-pancake #20 12 months ago

What the hell is going on?

Do you need to sign up to Playstation Plus if you've never been a member before or is just being automatically activated for everyone?
  • Scopeh #21 12 months ago

    wow lots of free games!
  • varsas #22 12 months ago

I don't think the welcome back ps+ accounts have been activated yet.
  • Schmoke-n-a-pancake #23 12 months ago

    @varsas

Do you know if we need to activate them or not?

Hi, there will be a thumbnail in the Welcome Back section and you just download this as you would any other product and then you will access to the Plus section of the Store, where all the content will be. Hope you enjoy it ;)"

So, you you will be able to activate your free PS+ subscription in the store whenever the Welcome Back package goes live.
  • Atropos #25 12 months ago

    Mss99 summed it up perfectly.

Still wondering about the May content though; I will be on holiday until the 16th of June without access to my PS3, though I think I actually managed to download all of the free April content before PSN went off-line. But if the May content is only up until the 15th of june as well, I'll be soooo ragingly, uncontrollably angr... well, ok, no... just slightly miffed really. But still.
  • uncharted86 #26 12 months ago

    @Atropos

There will be no May content. That's why you got 60 (now actually 70) extra days of Plus.

    EPIC FAIL:
    - i can't access any PSplus game, how am i supposed to do that?
    - 2 free games not available yet
    - I tried to download infamous 2 demo but an "80023125" has occurred.

So wtf did they restore exactly?

Stop Complaining for gods sake, kids these days pfft.

i can't access any PSplus game, how am i supposed to do that?
They arent activated yet, they are getting to it.

2 free games not available yet
They have also said they are working on this. Its a separate issue to the PS+ offer and all the content added. Again give them time, the stores not been up long at all.

I tried to download infamous 2 demo but an "80023125" has occurred.
This is a busy error, either cancel and try again a few times and hopefully the server will respond, otherwise be patient and try later when its less busy and the whole internet is scrambling for their free stuff.

    @Biker_Bob_1971

I don't subscribe to PS+ as I already have Live, but from what I can see the whole scheme seems to offer far better value for money. I like the idea of free DLC for certain games and full games to download. It's heavily content/incentives based which can only be good. You take party chat and online play out of Live and there is absolutely nothing left. It's not really worth paying for at all tbqh.

If only I could convince my mates to get a PS3...
  • irve77 #30 12 months ago

    Ahhh ,

what a load of old shite !

Is burnout paradise the full game or the hour long full game demo thing that Plus users normally get ?

I've very unimpressed to be brutally honest.

As part of the welcome back there shoulod have been a good selection of dynamic themes and bits and bobs to keep people happy. and limiting the content so you only have access to the june stuff .. that is a bit of a dick move !

the 2 free games is still a great offer even if it is a slightly poor selection it's still 2 free games which is a result
  • irve77 #31 12 months ago

now that's more like it .. so now PSN+ users effectively haven't paid for the time PSN was down 20/4 to 2/6 ( well give or take 3 days) and been given 30 days free as a welcome back. AND 2 free games ... seems very fair to me.

i just have my fingers crossed that Sony have listened to all the comments and as a surprise announce an extra 3-4 games to the list of 5 that you can choose your free titles from ... I've still got my fingers crossed that they will include uncharted 1 as it'll work as a nice bit of PR for uncharted 3 ( like infamous is for Infamous 2 ) come on sony .. pretty please !! pretty please with sugar on top !
  • Bleed #32 12 months ago

Seems like this playstation plus 'free' for a month is just another way for sony to try & get more money off us by giving us discounts on items we'd normally not bother getting. And having those few 'old' games free for only a month? what's the point? I got Burnout 'free' for PC some time ago anyways and that isn't limited to a time period. Sony should start giving 'free' avatars & themes for one. Instead of charging people for them. Some being very poorly made. (I notice the 'free' android/iphone game Angry Birds(1) on there, but of course, Sony are charging their customers for a free game. PS Store back up today, and nothing worth downloading at all yet. Well done Sony.
  • KimboDice #33 12 months ago

I don't feel welcomed back Sony! What does everyone have to wait another month for the So-called "welcome back pack"? If so then this isn't a welcome is it! I think you should re-name it to "you'll get it when we feel like giving it you back pack".
