The PlayStation Network is back online in the UK after 25 days of outage.

You're now able to game online.

After downloading firmware 3.61, released last night, and changing your PSN password, online matchmaking is available.

It is the first phase of the restoration of the service. Sony said last night all PSN services will be back online by the end of the month.

The PlayStation Store, however, is still undergoing maintenance. Virtual world PlayStation Home is up and running, though. Thank goodness for that.

Other available services include the playback of rented videos, Music Unlimited, access to third party services, friends lists, chat functionality and trophy comparisons.

At midnight last night Sony released the expected new firmware, outlined its new security measures and in the US made online gaming available.

Sony will turn PSN online in other European countries over the coming hours.
