Portal 2 out now on Steam worldwide

Valve digitally delivers.

You can play the PC and Mac versions of Portal 2 two days before launch in UK shops by buying it from Steam.

The release is the result of an alternate reality game that culminated only a few hours ago. Valve has rewarded those who found all 36 potatoes hidden within the Portal 2 ARG with a free copy of the entire Valve Pack on Steam – which includes Portal 2.

UK shops such as GAME still have the first-person puzzler down for release on Thursday 21st April.

Eurogamer's Portal 2 review is live.

Nice of Valve to reward all the people who worked hard to get those potatoes! Now I'm off to play the game :D

Has it been put foward to thursday? if so, i reckon Blockbuster will still try and screw me over and release it on the friday anyway :(

Edit: they changed the article post notes! I'm so confused!

It is still down for Thursday. My PS3 copy shipped from Game on Monday so I expect it to show up before then.

@Cadence - Early days yet but it currently has a 95/100 Metacritic score, though only from 4 reviews.

I just managed to decrypt it and browse through the main menu before I went to work today.
When I get home tonight, I'm finally going to click that "new game" button.

Going to finish work early today, and go to bed late.

I bet that whenever someone spells it as "I-Pad", Steve Jobs doubles over in pain.

    I-Pad.
    I-Pad.

    I-Pad.

I got up early to play before work. Played just over an hour.

It's really good. Humour wise, it's like the final bit of Portal 1 non-stop. Some genuine LOLs.

Graphically it's better than Portal 1. The engine hasn't improved a great amount (although there seems to be real time shadows) but I think Left4Dead might look a bit better. Artistically, it beats any other Valve game hands down.

Some nice background music which gives it loads more atmosphere than Portal 1. Decent voice acting from Stephen Merchant.

For co-op play, there is a STORE. Where you can buy new skins, gestures (you can wave, dance etc.). There's HATS too. Cue loads of people moaning like they're being forced to spend money. Haven't actually had a co-op game yet, the person I played against had a fucked up microphone so I could hear their sound and their family shouting in the background.

That's all I got for now. Can't see anyone being disappointed though!

I managed to fit in an hour or so before work too. The slightly early launch didn't make that big a difference on this side of the Atlantic I guess, but working on it was suitably distracting.

No complaints, although nothing particularly surprising yet. Plenty of time for that I'm sure.

cool idea but i wonder how it will affect pc shop retail. pc games in shops dont have the same 2nd hand undercutting new sales, so its bound to be a bum deal on this sku. in the overall picture drop in the bucket i guess

Bah. Shame that people like me who preordered a boxed copy of the game still have to wait :(

The next few days are going to be very annoying :(

That's a pretty cool deal for those that went for the potato's. Very cool.

For some reason I feel this article reads like something you might see printed in a national newspaper, written by people who only have a vague idea what these 'videogame' things are.

Provide no substantial information on the ARG, be sure to remind readers which shops sell videogames.
