Hitman 5 clues crescendo

Grr, ARG.

Evidence of a new Hitman game is mounting.

Members of the Hitman forum have been on a wild goose chase following a trail of cryptic ARG clues all pointing towards Hitman and its star, Agent 47. At one point the inquisitive thread-starter was sent a picture showing a script (possibly for a game) on a table and a pair of black leather gloves.

The next clues point to the Berlinale film festival. Given that the trail began with a picture of a box of doughnuts at the Sundance film festival, the link makes sense.

The community expects a reveal at the E3 show in June.

Eurogamer was told, last summer, that a new and fifth Hitman game was being worked on and would be "most likely" released sometime this year.

There hasn't been a Hitman game developed from the ground up for PS3 and Xbox 360. The last game, Blood Money, was ported and upscaled from Xbox to Xbox 360. Eurogamer awarded Hitman: Blood Money 8/10.

Since Blood Money, IO has gone on to make Kane & Lynch - a series that started promisingly but got worse. A return to IO's flagship Hitman IP is long overdue.

Hitman: Blood Money.

I thought Blood Money was ace. We need a new Hitman game, its a gap in the market which hasn't been filled since the last game.

I'm surprised no other game has tried to imitate the Hitman series. It's such a brilliant set of games and now I'm worried that between H5 and Skyrim, I'm going to appear on a gaming addict intervention show hosted by Noel Edmonds...

Yep - more Hitman please. Assassin's Creed is OK as far as it goes but it's not really about sneaky-sneaky assassination at all. At least, not enough for me.

Sorry, you can neg away to your heart's content but the Assassin's Creeds are no more about assassination than Uncharted or Enslaved.

"The next clues point to the Burlinale film festival."

That should probably be the "Berlinale", no? You know, the one in Berlin?
  • RedSparrows #5 1 year ago

AC has nothing on Hitman in terms of the actual, y' know, assassin part of the deal. Need 5 NAOW.

C'mon IO. I need my Hitman fix!

The next clues point to the Burlinale film festival. Given that the trail began with a picture of a box of doughnuts at the Sundance film festival, the link makes sense.

Are we sure they're not sneakily announcing the second Hitman film instead?

AC series never really clicked with me, just a dumbed down assassin game to cater for a broader audience. The Hitman series is excellent, I think Contracts was my favourite

Still have my copy of Blood Money that I brought on day one, I just loved all the different ways you could take out the target. Poison in the donuts, silenced sniper rifle, explosives on the lighting gantry, replace the blank firing pistol with a real one. Awesome.

A Hitman game built specifically for this generation with crisp visuals and varied gameplay will be most welcome, and as much as I did enjoy (for the most part) Kane and Lynch 2, I just hope the annoying YouTube inspired filter doesn't make a return.

    @LazyNinjaUK

Come now, surely chloroformed panties in the knicker draw was a worthy highlight....

If ever a game didn't need multiplayer shoehorned into it then this is it. Just concentrate on the single player aspect please IO.
  • Desheep #13 1 year ago

    TBH I liked Kane & Lynch 2.

Maybe not the naked arse level, but the rest was good.
  • smoothpete #14 1 year ago

I swear to god, if they screw this up by diluting it with some kind of bullshit cover mechanic then I will be severely displeased. It's not an action game, no one wants it to be an action game, no one wants a "reinvention" of the series.
  • Pehmu #15 1 year ago

Blood Money was brilliant. Excellent, polished mission design. Every level offered something new and fresh.
  • respectyourelder #16 1 year ago

Can't wait to get the fibre wire out again, ASAP please IO!
  • TheKotti #17 1 year ago

@AcidSnake: Yes, the picture with the script mentions gameplay.
  • Paul_cz #18 1 year ago

    Hitman series is FUCKING AWESOME.

Cannot wait, Blood Money was 10/10 game.

I don't think it's fair to compare Hitman to AssCree - they offer different experiences. I've been all over every hitman game and loved em all, but I also enjoy AssCre for different aspects. The whole blending into crowds thing is something I think IO should adapt to Hitman - they kind of had it in the MardiGras missions of Bloodmoney where the streets were filled with people - but it didn't quite work as well as in AssCre.

Plus, don't instantly jump on the 'boo to shoehorned in multiplayer' bandwagon. IO have taken time and care with previous hitman games, and if they do put multiplayer in - I'm sure it won't be 'shoehorned in'. People shat all over ACB when it mentioned multiplayer and it turned out to be one of the best mp experiences of the year. It is possible to have stealth, planning and trickery in a multiplayer game. Although IO dropped the ball bigtime with Kane and Lynch - the multiplayer did have some interesting ideas (betrayal, etc), it's just a shame the gameplay and design decisions sucked balls.

Hitman has the great game mechanics of a stealth game, like how guards see you, react to your running/carrying weapons, (the AI basically), and you can plan missions out really well (throw gun over fence so you can walk through security and pick up gun later), and that's something AssCree doesn't have - as it is more of an open world game.

After playing Kane and Lynch I was hoping Hitman would be sold to another company.

A new Hitman game is damn near top of my most wanted list. Assassin's Creed comparisons are inevitable I guess but I personally think Splinter Cell is the most comparable series to Agent 47's games.

Kane & Lynch may have dislodged the halo a bit but I still have faith in Io to deliver the goods.

I really enjoyed Io's Freedom Fighters as well.

Let's get this straight, AC is a brilliant series of games. Wanting another Hitman game is not mutually exclusive with loving AC. I'd be happy if they just don't mess with the formula too much. I still dip into Blood Money even now - another 14 levels of that would get my money
  • FiReTiGeR2K #27 1 year ago

14?! lol youl be f*cking lucky!
  • glaeken #28 1 year ago

So everyone is keen for the next Hitman game? Going on their past record this means IO will announce Kane and Lync 3.
