If you pre-order the Battlefield 3: Limited Edition on PC then EA will give you the Back to Karkand expansion for free.

Back to Karkand contains four "boldly re-imagined" Battlefield 2 maps as well as weapons and vehicles from the old game. There are also unique rewards and Achievements/Trophies tied to Back to Karkand.

You can pre-order the Battlefield 3: Limited Edition for £39.99 over on the EA Store.

The pre-order announcement coincides with the first gameplay footage of Battlefield 3. It's been a long time coming and you can watch it below.

If you never played Karkand - You missed out.

    Big time.
  • haveasafeday #2 1 year ago

Good way to split the community as the game launches

Why is EA pushing the pc version so hard?? I've already pre ordered it on the ps3 so hopefully this deal come to the ps3/xbox aswell.
  • thenastypasty #4 1 year ago

You can actually download the Karkand stuff for a limited time for free after launch to stop the player base from being spilt.
  • haveasafeday #5 1 year ago

@thenastypasty ahh I guess that seems more reasonable. Rewarding the players that buy the game on launch seems a bit more fair
  • Yodith #6 1 year ago

Hopefully Steam pre-orders will get the extras too. EA's policy of keeping all the best bonuses for their own store is rather annoying.
  • TruWari3r #7 1 year ago

Hells yeah Strike at Karkand best map ever.

I just ... after seeing this teaser bit of gameplay ;)

    No Steam? No buy.

    @thenastypasty

Great post, thank you. That info definitely should have been in the article, unless the article is designed to encourage pre-orders...

*edit - can't watch the video at work but is it really, finally, actual gameplay footage from BF3?! How is it?!

The truly brilliant thing about this is that, considering I don't really like the map, by not buying the limited edition I get the double bonus of saving money and never having to see the map again!
  • keano #12 1 year ago

yes apparently 1 MONTH after launch the expansion will be available to download for all
  • arcam #13 1 year ago

I hope Dragon Valley is in the map-pack.

A friend and I once spent two hours in the two anti-aircraft turrets on the hill in the middle, occasionally jumping out to cover each other's backs with the shotgun. Must have taken out 50 jets and helicopters, who repeatedly came back for revenge, sometimes trying to parachute onto our heads but instead getting sniped out of the air. Finished up at the top two spots on the leaderboards by a mile.

    Good times.

Consoles will more than likely get this eventually. It's more of an incentive to the pc crowd because they actually know what karkland is.

Good map, middle east urban, has a bridge and nicely spread out flags. I enjoyed it on pc all those years ago.

I was never all that keen on Karkand, I'm hoping Sharqi Peninsula is in the map pack as that was great. Also hoping for an Xbox 360 release.
  • arcam #17 1 year ago

The thing I remember most about Sharqi Peninsula was trying to hide as the Blackhawk of Death, filled with engineers constantly repairing, swarmed around the map annihilating everything in its path.

That was surprisingly fun too ;)

I think i read somewhere that everybody who pre-orders gets this content, PC or otherwise. Its bundled with the Ltd Ed, which is all you can preorder as far as ive seen. A bit like MoH was only available as Ltd Ed for the first few months and had the BF3 beta
  • Rusty_M #19 1 year ago

Ugh! What an annoying trailer! They could show gameplay clips that're longer than 1 second, couldn't they? I don't mind short snippets, but those were snippets of snippets.

'Why is EA pushing the pc version so hard??'

Because it's primarily a PC franchise?
  • Cuttooth #21 1 year ago

    @thenastyparty

Really? Where have you read that? It makes the idea of a "limited edition" pre-order bonus largely redundant, surely?

    Hopefully it's true regardless.
  • CaptainKid #22 1 year ago

Thanks EA. You just persuaded me to NOT buy the game.
I can't stand getting different or more content when you purchase at different stores or pre-orders.

Especially with an online shooter and even more especially if it's maps or weapons, vehicles even!

Gimme gimme gimme. Order placed. I have been suckered by the offer of Karkand. Great map and BF3 looks amazing.

It seems we'er back in business boys! *high fives other PC owners who have hardcore rigs* "Soon they will see the power of our fully operational battle station"

Whoever posted that link to the PC gamer article thanks too. Now to pre- or wait.. ...plenty of time left lets see what other stuff is out there and what steam are doing etc.

You might say I am rather excited - this and Diablo3 in the same year... how will I get any productive work done.
  • Syon #25 1 year ago

Why this DLC can't be in full game already? Why do we have to pay for game that is cut to pieces before the launch? Screw this then I'm waiting for some GOTY edition with 6 DLC's, 10 skins for my ding dong and new ghillie for my missile...
  • aphex187 #26 1 year ago

@customfirmware Pushing the PC version so hard? because that's where BF started and it's about god damn time we PC gamers get a little extra for a change.

Friggin Console gamers just expect everything their way every f'n time! No wonder gaming is funked with these spoilt brat attitudes.

i find it funny that you would post a spoiled brat comment and then complain about spoiled brats.

I've had enough of these preorder bonuses, games I've done that for have been broken launch and in some cases being totally unplayable. I'm not doing it anymore, there's an attitude out there that game and then make it playable and reviewers are not mentioning if these games launch broken and yes that does include eurogamer. Battlefield 3 will be no exception as every battlefield ever released has been bug riddled and I'm not going to pay full price for a broken game any more.
  • aphex187 #29 1 year ago

-3 eh? the console lads been doing that then? hehe!! Trouble is i own both machines but always plump for my gaming rig any day! And people giving me a minus probably aren't original BF players from back in the day so up yours ya bastages! ;)
  • veiron #30 1 year ago

Real gamers play on PC! And especially Battlefield. This game will look SO much better on a good pc. Not limited by shitty hardware like my PS3. But hey! My PS3 is good for watching movies. A good thing its not a complete waste og money :)
