EU PlayStation Store update 9th Feb

Stacking! Plants vs. Zombies! Explodemon!

Today, PlayStation Plus comes of age. Free to subscribers are Tim Schafer's potentially fantastic downloadable Russian doll game Stacking (usually £9), and a Killzone 3 single-player demo.

Eurogamer's Stacking review is in the works, by the way. It'll be with you by tomorrow lunch time. Stacking offers a free trial, incidentally.

For everybody else, the PlayStation Store cupboards are heaving with content.

DC Universe 90-day subs are discounted as the game approaches its scary 'will people pay to play or won't they' second month, and a horde of PlayStation minis have been reduced to a quid.

PopCap's brilliant Plants vs. Zombies arrives today with a free trial, and Explodemon! finally bursts onto the PlayStation Store.

There are demos for recommended racing rental Nail'd and Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll, a PS3-exclusive made by the Dynasty Warriors team.

Stacking.

    I really wanted Plant vs Zombies and About a Blob looks very interesting as well but those prices are insane. Will probably wait to see if they go on PS+ discount or giveaway in the coming months.

    As for Stacking, I've been looking forward to that since it was announced so I'll be all over it once the store updates.
  • neilka #5 1 year ago

    Stacking's up on XBLA too :D

    Is the Killzone demo coming to us normal peeps at any stage?

    All the beta has done is put me right off seeing as I've not been able to connect once.

    Killzone demo is coming to normal PSN next week I believe.

    Does Plants vs Zombies win the prize for worst value per MB? Seriously though, it's £1.79 on iPhone and £3.99 on iPad. I've never played it and was tempted to pick it up on PSN, but I'm not paying that.
  • ZizouFC #10 1 year ago

    Love that they show the sizes of the downloads!

    Look forward to Stacking review. PVZ terrible value. Was thinking about buying again and happily losing another 40 hours of my life, but the price has made the decision for me.
  • wizlon #12 1 year ago

    Stacking is free for PS+ too, which is nice.
  • captain_Carl #13 1 year ago

    Definitely have to buy Explodemon. Looks fantastic and made by a UK indie who deserves support :)

    You can get the Killzone 3 demo free if you create a Hong Kong PSN account ;-)

    When do we get a Playstation Plus / Xbox Live Gold comparison? It may be fanboy bait to some, but would be pretty useful for others. My live sub is up in a couple of weeks and I'm tempted to switch to Plus if they keep this level of content up.
  • GamesConnoisseur #19 1 year ago

    PS+ really worthwhile, some weeks I felt that it wasnt really paying back much, but this week is certainly very sweet!

    Getting hold of Killzone 3 SP demo a week early and Tim Schafer's £9 game for free, and now looking at XBL Gold's account and 1200 msp for same game Stacking.

    I m sure many others multi platform owners will too and be silly to cough up 1200 msp when free if also a PS+ subscriber.

    Though I m still mainly using XBL for online games and PS+ now looks to be mainly useful for other stuff than online gaming, ie discounts, freebies and those extra features like automatic patching or forthcoming cloud savings!
  • Widge #20 1 year ago

    Oh woo, cross game chat
  • DavidBoring #21 1 year ago

    @lolnoodles

    so, you know how many people have signed up for ps+? why dont you share the numbers then ?

    and in general xbla gold and ps+ are very different services (the differences were often explained here)

    I do wish fanboys would drop the "rental" argument against PS Plus. Yes, the freebies are deactivated if you stop your sub, but if you keep your sub then you keep your free stuff and keep getting more free stuff, so why would you stop? Also anything bought using Plus discounts is yours forever. Plus is fantastic value, I've gotten some great games for free that I would never have played otherwise and saved a few quid with the discounts too, a much better use of 40 quid than the "privilege" of accessing content that I've already bought and is available for free on the PS3 (multiplayer)

    Anyone else miss the good old days when moderators deleted posts and banned fools? sigh

    @ Murton: I am one of those who don't see much in PS+ beyond an expensive rental service. If you find it profitable, fair enough. It's up to each one of us to decide what is good or bad value for our money.

    Wow you really do make the 360 sound soooo amazing, the same console that is coming last in sales in this generation of consoles!

    -lays fanboy bait, and awaits a bite
  • Triggerhappytel #28 1 year ago

    I will be getting Explodemon regardless (in part to support a UK indie), but does anyone know if any reviews for it are up yet?
  • Beano #29 1 year ago

  • SeesThroughAll #30 1 year ago

    Aye, Beano. Looks like a lot of fun. :)
  • PeacockDreams #31 1 year ago

    @lolnoodles

    Yes it was bait, very poor bait, but it caught a bite in seconds from yourself so it worked. Ho hum!

    And yes, although the PS3 is in last place (by about 2 million sales worldwide ) the 360 was released a whole year ahead of the PS3. So the PS3 has sold nearly as many as the 360 but in much lesser time, so what i said wasnt strictly true at the moment, however you can bet it will be by the end of this generations cycle. Now run along fan boy, stop biting

  • PeacockDreams #37 1 year ago

    @lolnoodles

    None the less, the 360 is fully on course to end this generation in last place, sorry to upset you but your blinding fanboism is an absolute embarrasment to yourself and your family and i can almost guarantee your a bed wetter! Now go back to scribbling 'Halo rulez' on your school desk

    Noodles, care to post a link that reports Sony removing access to Plus content while subs are in date and paid up? Because I still have access to all of my stuff and so does everyone on my friends list.

    And if we're going to play that game. PS3 has more exclusives by far, all of which are 720p or higher compared to 360 which has mostly sub-HD exclusives, PS3 games have higher metacritic scores than 360 even when counting multiplat, PS3 games get additional on disc content like Frontline and Extraction, and where the developer makes use of it: PS3 supports keyboard and mouse control in games, supports in-game screenshots and video capture including upload to youtube need I list more gaming features unique to the PS3?

    Oh and the most important gaming feature of all, doesn't require you to pay additional fees to access the multiplayer content that you already bought and paid for.

    If you're going to troll, then at least be factual or entertaining, otherwise you're just being a nuisance.

    Re: indie development, I'd love to buy Explodemon, PvZ and About a Blob and support these guys, but they're all taking the piss with their prices to be frank. I have no doubt that these are good games, but together they cost almost as much as KZ3 or Bulletstorm and I can't help but think that the blockbusters probably represent better value in the long term.

  • Murton #45 1 year ago

    "You pay about 50p a week for a superior online gaming service that affects your enjoyment of all games. You get things like cross-game invites and join session in progress for all games. Mute options for all games (can't believe the PS3 still doesn't have this, LOL), cross-game chat, voice messaging, private voice chat etc."

    Sorry, but your online experience is no better. You're paying 40 quid a year to play the same way we do for free. On the publisher's dedicated server or p2p. Why should anyone pay 40 quid a year to host their own multiplayer game? Especially considering that they already paid for that multiplayer content when they bought the game.

    Shame that EG has to rely on flamebait and fanboy wars to maintain its hit count and advertising revenue really. Some moderation would be really welcome around here.
  • PeacockDreams #46 1 year ago

    @lolnoodles

    Nobody has come on here and been a Sony fanboy! Infact noboby else, thank god, can be arsed, making up lists of why the 360 or PS3 is 'da best man' apart from you, you shitty little arse wipe! When your grown up you will realise you dont have to argue and justify every purchase you make, its kind of the same reason you dont see grown men squaring up and throwing down fisticuffs in the supermarket because one bought Nescafe and the other bought Gold Blend! You have embarrased yourself no end today young man
  • reelbigkris #47 1 year ago

    Playstation plus is excellent if you are a casual gamer who rarely purchases anything on the store. For the more hardcore gamers out there who look forward to new releases and purchase games on release day, it's a major problem. If Sony continue to offer day one releases for free to subscribers, then I may consider subbing myself.

    Also... lolnoodles, I don't care about any of those top 5 features you say everyone is demanding. Sure, xbox has backwards compatibility, but it's kind of crappy (And does not play toejam and earl 3). but I have an xbox for that, same as I have a PS2 for ps2 stuff (The delay with hdtv for games like amplitude and frequency make the games unplayable so PS3 backwards compatibility sucks too)

    My playstation is used for importing new titles, Having a much wider genre of games available compared to the 360 and a blu ray player. Consider the top titles to come out this year for the 360, it's terrible compared the the diverse range Sony is offering. The only thing I do agree with you on, is that the 360 can run multi platform titles better than Sony, Bayonetta as an example

    Something that does occur to me though, if the 360 is so great and he likes playing on it so much, why has he spent the entire afternoon trolling this thread? Wonder if it has anything to do with that other great feature of the 360, that 60+ percent failure rate.

    So long Noobles. Have fun

    Oh, yeah, you want facts? Let's talk facts then buddeh!
    How about this fact?
    As that scientific method demonstrates, Xbox got its ass handed over by Colecovision.
    Colecovision is da shit! Xbox360 and PS3 are jokes.
    Edited by CloisterBlack at 09/02/11 @ 15:35
  • Murton #61 1 year ago

    I'm yet to see facts I'm afraid. I see a lot of misguided opinions and trolling.

    I've just looked it up and the PS3 has more exclusives than the 360 by about a dozen. This is because PS3 retail exclusives are only available on the PS3 while almost half of 360 "exclusives" are also available on the PC. If you want you can count the XBLA titles that aren't on PC to boost your count but then we'll have to count PSN games, PSOne Classics and Mini's too and the PS3 will still have more true exclusives. It's a fact, and you can't argue with facts apparently, although you have throughout this thread and much of your post history it seems.

    I also think you need to go back to Metacritic which clearly shows a lead to PS3 games in review scores. Click up all of the exclusives this gen, you'll see the pattern pretty quickly.

    But the reason that I'm departing from this thread is simply because it's pointless trying to debate with a child such as yourself. You won't accept any points made by the many rational people who have commented here and just continue to bang out lists of stuff that nobody really cares about. It's sad really and any other gaming website would have deleted your BS posts and banned you and your IP address long before now. But as I said earlier, EG lives purely off of advertising revenue and people like you are good at keeping their hit counts up on slow news days such as this one.

    Now if you don't mind, the store has updated so I'm off to play Stacking. I'll leave you to your trolling.

    I think we better seriously consider that a company has made hi res colour graphics affordable for the first time! And all it costs is $2,000! If we can save up all our money, I think we can buy one! Two graphics processors, eight simultaneous colours and an amazing 672 X 480 resolution! This is the future!

    @patch

    I'm not sure what your needs are - but here's what you get with PSN and PSN+. As you probably know, online play is free on PSN, so what PSN+ offers new is a substantial number of discounts on PSN games/themes/avatars, free PSN games/themes/avatars, priority on certain games demos, and (at least for US), free Qore content(not tried Qore though).

    I had spent $ 50 on a year's worth of PS+ in August. In the 6 months since then, I've gotten almost $ 40-45 worth of free content that I've actually downloaded, not counting another probably hundred dollars worth of free content that I already have and/or was not interested in and so did not download. From that perspective, for me, PS+ is an investment in which I have actually recovered more money than I spent. And the year is only half-finished. Another 6 months of free content to go.

    I would say one of the best features of PSN is the absence of lolnoodles.

    To my brothers on XBL Gold (I only have a Silver account now), my sympathies for having to share your online space with an Australopithecus like lolnoodles.

    @lolnoodles

    Shouldn't you have been at school at the time of your posts, what with you clearly being a 12 year old? PS3 sucks, 360 rules, we get it. They clearly haven't taught you about being succinct yet.

    Stacking looks like fun, might investigate it (and i salute Double Fine for another cool looking oddity).

    Also chaps, Clipper tea is the best, in my humble opinion.

    I got rainbow vegas 2 new for 6 quid, ac2 for less than 10 quid months ago off amazon both on ps3. Thats for physical actual disks aswell. Almost a year ago I think.

    Im an xbox fanboy and a ps3 fanboy, does that mean I dont exist? looking back through this thread it defies logic!
