SE: FF Versus XIII still a PS3 exclusive

Nomura "stood his ground on the platform".

Final Fantasy Versus XIII remains a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Square Enix has confirmed.

Director Tetsuya Nomura revealed at a Tokyo press conference this morning, reported by RPGSite, that he "stood his ground on the platform".

Little is known about the PS3-exclusive action-RPG, despite the fact that it was first announced in 2006 alongside sister title Final Fantasy XIII.

Nomura was the main character designer on FFXIII and is director of the Kingdom Hearts games.

    Good. I want to see the difference in a exclusive and non-exclusive FF. Seeing how XIII-2 and Versus turns out will be interesting.

    Are you sure he didn't say PS4 exclusive? Seems like it seeing how long it's taking

    Yay for exclusives, especially PS3 exclusives, truly the cadillac of platform exclusive videogames.
  • inutaihanyou #5 1 year ago

    Well..okay i guess..not that i think system platform limits anyone's ability to make a quality game, maybe he stood his ground of the principle of the hardware of the 360 not being powerful enough. I doubt Tetsuya has a "console loyalty", or atleast i hope not..not everyone can be like Hideo i suppose

    "Nomura was the character designer on FFXII and is director of the Kingdom Hearts games."

    Nope.
  • nazzyq #7 1 year ago

    Good god, the titles of these games confuse me. FF vs 13? Is this some kind of apocalyptic battle in which 13 people fight somebody's twisted fantasy?

    Have to say I'm surprised by this. Was really expecting the next chunk of news to be this going multiplatform. It definitely seems like the type of game that will appeal to the more western 360 audience a lot more and not releasing it after giving them the lackluster XIII is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

    Still looking forward to seeing something of this that isn't just two characters talking though.

    @chris-ace: Yes, they're gonna try to please the uncharted / killzone / resistance corridor fans instead, you hipster doofus.
  • WinterSnowblind #12 1 year ago

    @chris_ace
    Aren't you one who was claiming the 360 version only started mid development because Microsoft paid Square? Do you really think they went back and redeveloped massive parts of the game because of the 360? We'd still be waiting for it, if that were the case. That aside, some of the most popular games on the 360 are OPEN WORLD. Even Halo has huge levels with a lot of exploration.

    I think it's more a case of the developers being incompetent and you being a fanboy.

    It's due for this year and you still don't give out any info?

    Who are you kidding, Square-Enix?
  • Antaios #14 1 year ago

    Finish the game already, Nomura, you useless tit.
  • digoutyoursoul #15 1 year ago

    @winter, wasting your time trying to talk to him, he's a playstation gobshite not a playstation fan.
  • inutaihanyou #16 1 year ago

    I dislike fanboys as much as i dislike trolls. Which is a lot -_-;

    If Square really HAD went back and redesigned 13 for 360, it would have actually been closer to its ps3 counterpart and not so inferior.

    Which just lays the blame on lazy porting.

    Reeks of protectionism, a bit like Kojima, happy to develop for Nintendo or Sony, but not Microsoft?

    @inutaihanyou
    Hope you're not implying I'm a fanboy, I actually played the game on the PS3.
    I was just responding to stupidity. But upon seeing some of his other posts, I realize I may be wasting my time.

    Do people even care about this anymore? I was really interested at some point and while I agree that constant drip-feeding of media eventually ruins many surprises... this kind of silence is quite frustrating.
  • NotSoSlim #25 1 year ago

    Yea TSB using multi plat games to justify his defence. Facts are there has not been a open wired exclusive game for PS3, at least with this announcement we will see if hard drives in every machine and blue ray is beneficial for open world games.

    WinterSnowblind @ chris_ace: Oh Snap, son!
  • Widge #27 1 year ago

    Just pointing out that Infamous was an open world exclusive.
    Although I thought that was fantastic and the sequel is looking to step it up even further thanks to the Naughty Dog help.
  • NotSoSlim #28 1 year ago

    @Widge

    Fair point and Infamous 2 looks amazing
  • Jamiesan #29 1 year ago

    Be honest - who would buy this on the 360 after the shoddy XIII port? And that wasn't even a game that takes proper advantage of the PS3's HD!
  • Smoped #30 1 year ago

    Looking at Squenix' recent batting average it's really hard for me to decide which platform is the winner and which the loser here.
  • StolenGlory #31 1 year ago

    Looks like the leakage continues.

    The Versus XIII trailer has hit Youtube:

    Massive amount of gameplay in that trailer! Looks great! Massive fight areas, vehicles, 3rd person shooting ... variety!
  • molekiller #33 1 year ago

    I don't expect anything good from square enix anymore, couldn't care less.
  • GamesConnoisseur #34 1 year ago

    I stand my ground firmly in still thinking FFXIII was the MOST disappointing game of 2010, so there!

    I even damned finished the game, and paradigm shift combat was cool, but you can only do so many times before you tire of button smashing, all games are linear, but the game doesn't do much to give you perception of anything than continually boxed in and forward all the times. Gran Pulse arrives far too late.

    I played every FF game under the sun.

    Disappointing .... and wonders how SE gonna answers on the mixed receptions for the new games?!
  • Lunastra78 #35 1 year ago

    But PS3 already has so many upcoming exclusives. I'd say let the 360 FF fans in on the fun too.
  • Nikanoru #36 1 year ago

    GamesConnoisseur: totally agree that FFXIII was a piece of crap, huge disappointment. Gran Pulse was too late, sure, but more importantly too little. One field with two corridors on the side, that's all it was. And the "hunts" were a complete and total joke compared to those in FFXII. The way they were implemented felt so completely pointless, and I think the developers knew this, because they only let you take on one at a time. The only thing that accomplished was making you have to run back and forward more times. I guess they thought this would help to hide their boringness.
  • jackdoe #37 1 year ago

    In the end, it doesn't really matter if it is a PS3 exclusive since Nomura and his team are going to be developing it as a PS3 exclusive even if it eventually becomes multiplatform. In fact, if making the game multiplatform convinces Square to put more resources into the game and release it quicker, I'll welcome that change.
  • man.the.king #38 1 year ago

    @TSB

    "They were inferior on the PS3 just like 130+ other games. "

    You keep clinging to that tuft of grass, kid.

    Me - I'll be playing a LOT of games this year.

    On all my consoles.
