Uncharted 3 set in the desert – report

Like Drake misses the rain.

Uncharted 3 – heavily rumoured for a reveal at the Spike Video Game Awards next month – is set in the desert according to Kotaku.

Although which of the world's many deserts the game is set in is unknown, Kotaku suggests an African desert. Raiders of the Lost Ark anyone?

The rumoured setting, if correct, would follow South American jungles in Uncharted and the Himalayas in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Last week we heard whispers of Sony's plan to unveil a PlayStation 3 exclusive the day after the VGAs – and those whispers made the sound of Uncharted 3.

In January Nolan North, the voice of Uncharted protagonist Nathan Drake, hinted that production on the game would begin this year.

And in September last year Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig expressed her belief that the Uncharted series had the potential to run and run, long past Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

"Our expectation with Uncharted is that it can be an ongoing franchise as long as people want more of it," she said.

"[Drake's] going to have lots of adventures, thank god."

Eurogamer's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune review returned a 9/10. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - released on 16th October – went one better, scoring a 10/10 in Eurogamer's review.

    I can't bloody wait for this!

    Uncharted 2 is easily one of my all time favourite games, absolutely brilliant all the way through.
  • Tomnd #2 1 year ago

    horray!! keep making them i'll buy em. Hopefully it won't go the tomb raider route with the exact same game being released 7 times and then some shitty reimaginings.

    Drake? Nathan... Drake? Nathan Drake... NATHAN DRAKE?! NATHAN DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

    If the rumor is true (and surely it should be labeled as such, not a report) does it indicate that some of the levels are going to be more open than DF and AT?

    Just to clarify I have no problem with tightly scripted games, that push you down a corridor, when it's executed in such a brilliant fashion like the Uncharted.

    and a final note Sony, please please please don't label this game as 'wrapping up the trilogy'. I think it's plainly obvious that NG see each game as a self contained story within Drake's life, by the evidence of each game having it's own subtitle. Only marketing want the numbers on the games.

    UC2 was, however, a very clear sequel to UC1. Not a case of "play them in any order" by far.

    Are you sure the desert thing isn't just a location shoot for a new video by New Kids on the Block? :-)
  • DiamondIce #9 1 year ago

    I hope not. I have never liked desert levels for some reason.
  • bladdard #10 1 year ago

    I must admit these uncharted reveals just depress me how far off the game is from release.
  • bodypopper #11 1 year ago

    Hmm, sand games tend to be buggy.

    I Didnt experience any bugs in Uncharted 1 or 2
  • bladdard #15 1 year ago

    @Caimbeul

    What did you do play it with your eyes closed lol. :p

    Admittedly uncharted wasn't that buggy but uncharted 2 is full of bugs. The biggest I encountered were falling out of the world completely and not being able to progress because a window that was supposed to smash in an explosion didn't. I walked around for ages with a dying dude on my back trying to work out where the hell to go.

    It will probably take place in the desert in the same way that Uncharted 2 took place in the Himalayas - technically true, but not quite the whole story.
  • jstar #17 1 year ago

    Less stupid wonky shooting please, less endless enemies that are totally at odds with the beautiful level design and sharp writing, more exploring and less video gamey moments and it would be worthy of a 10. Still really enjoyed it though.
  • HisDudness #18 1 year ago

    As much as I love UC2, I agree with jstar. I will buy this without even consulting a review, however ND need to work hard to keep the game feeling fresh. Better platforming sequences, puzzles, and stealth missions will help, but most important is a strong sense of exploration to break up the frantic gun battles. For the most part - in contrast to most games out there - Uncharted was able to maintain a sense of variety in its campaign. They will have to try even harder given that everyone will have played through UC1 and 2 multiple times! Also campaign length was perfectly suitable to multiple play throughs. Don't make it longer!
  • coomber #19 1 year ago

    Just fix the controls when climbing (I got sick of leaping to my death in the complete opposite direction to that which I wanted to go) and you have got the perfect game wherever you set it.
  • Soton4084 #20 1 year ago

    Uncharted 2 has the best graphics on the PS3 in my opinion and those snow effects were incredible! I also love the multiplayer and still regularly play it. It has easily become one of the defining games of this generation and will be looked upon as a classic in the future. Here's hoping that Uncharted 3 is too.
  • bladdard #21 1 year ago

    Bloody hell there's some negtards on this site. Uncharted 2 is without doubt the best game I've played this gen and the best looking game I've ever seen which is some technical feat but that doesn't mean it's not buggy.

    Oh shit someone on the internet is criticising my favourite game ... must be an xbot attack aaah!! I can't take it must eat chocolate/pizza/fried chicken/burger for reassurance. (delete or insert equally unhealthy foodstuff of choice)
  • parablax #22 1 year ago

    @bladdard - I'll give you a +1, do you feel better now?
  • Lunastra78 #23 1 year ago

    It came from the desert.
  • Matthew_Aaron #24 1 year ago

    Hope its set in Egypt,ND could do amazing things with that setting, history etc.
  • bladdard #25 1 year ago

    @parablax

    Cheers mate that positive feedback has turned my day around. ;o)

    god do we really need to have articles for speculation about which fucking climate a game is set in? Video Game Journalism

    (The Uncharted Games are fantastic. I don't need to know this.)

    Egypt setting works perfectly for me, can only imagine what ND will do with the pyramids and egyptian mythology
  • Lee_Morris #28 1 year ago

    I thought I had plainly stated that the Uncharted games DON'T necessarily have to be played in release order.

    I only made an off had comment by my annoyance with numbers being stuck on everything to cleary market games to the dumbest fool in the store. Jesus people.

    By the way I absolutely love the Uncharted games if I didn't make that clear in my first post.
  • el_pollo_diablo #29 1 year ago

    EGYPT.

    I can't imagine it being anywhere else.
  • Markitron #30 1 year ago

    @Lee_Morris

    Completely agree with you, the PS3 install base was very small when UC1 came out so a lot of gamers were in the position last year of having played the second and not the first. I knew a few friends who only went to play UC1 after UC2 with no complaints
  • jack24 #31 1 year ago

    Love Uncharted just as much as the next guy.

    I want Jak & Daxter back though :(
  • zx81coder #32 1 year ago
