Dead Rising 2: Case West out next month

New details revealed.

Controversial Xbox Live Arcade exclusive Dead Rising 2: Case West will release next month, Capcom's announced.

The downloadable game sees photojournalist Frank West return to Fortune City to investigate Phenotrans and find proof of its involvement with the zombie outbreaks.

Epilogue Case West is set immediately after the events of Dead Rising 2, and sees Frank team up with Chuck Greene in co-op action.

The duo set out on a brand new case set in the Phenotrans Facility on the outskirts of Fortune City.

There are new challenges, new enemies and new weapons. New Combo weapons are also possible, such as the Zap & Shine and the Reaper.

The incredibly annoying task of rescuing human survivors will also feature. Yay.

As already revealed, Frank can take photographs. Expect cameo appearances from characters from the original Dead Rising.

If you play Case West on your lonesome, you'll control Chuck, with the AI handling Frank – he's invulnerable in this mode.

At the Tokyo Game Show 2010 Capcom denied it was "alienating" PS3-owning Dead Rising fans with Case West, despite it being an Xbox Live Arcade esxclusive.

Following Case West's Tokyo Game Show reveal PS3 gamers complained that they were being denied the beginning and end of the upcoming zombie kill-em-up.

"The incredibly annoying task of rescuing human survivors will also feature. Yay."

That's a bit unfair. The AI was improved by such a massive margin in the sequel that the survivors practically rescued themselves.

If it's anything as good (and cheap) as Case Zero, I'm getting this. And I don't even have the actual Dead Rising 2 yet, waiting to come across it cheap. :p

I really enjoyed the bite sized Case Zero that came out. It felt like the perfect length for that kind of game. I honestly got bored playing Dead Rising 2 and I've never gone back to it. :-/

    Case Zero was great.

Wes let's keep the Dead Rising bashing to a minimum shall we? The sequel was great.

It's a shame that Dead Rising is being under appreciated for things that are part of its charm and that relatively little noise is being made in regards to the UTTERLY broken save mechanic in co-op mode. Please fix it, Capcom.

Dead Rising 2 was enjoyable for a while, but after 2 playthroughs I have no intention of ever returning to it - or any DLC (which since I have a PS3 is not much of an option anyway!), there is just not variety in the game.

I actually preferred Case Zero to the main game. Got bored of DR2 probably not even halfway through. The save system didn't help matters either.

if you need dead rising 2 to play this then no buy for me.i traded it in months ago after completing it 3 times then got bored with it.

Played through PS3 version about 5 time to get that platinum trophy and loved it.

all this DLC exclusivity really is BS.

Would happily pay for dlc, but since its not coming out, off to the trade in bin it goes.

    Curious, how is this "controversial"?
  • Syrette #17 1 year ago

    @Bogie19th

Case West is the latest in a very long line of games to be exclusive to one platform or another.

With that said, I really don't see how this is really any more truly "controversial" than the exclusive content PS3 owners got with Brotherhood and Mafia 2 for example.
  • Bogie19th #18 1 year ago

Consoles have had exclusive titles for years and years, and that hasn't changed. I don't see this being any more of an issue. Every console seems to be getting some exclusive content to help sway consumers to their product over the other one. If the majority of games are going to be 3rd party and multi-platform, they need to do something to encourage people to use one platform over the other. If every single game was exactly the same, we might as well justl have one console....and with that, no competition, and then no innovation, and the demise of gaming.
