The Witcher 2 special editions spelled out

Figurine fans, steel yourselves.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is to get two different special editions for its May 2011 release, publisher Namco Bandai has announced.

The Premium Edition, which will set you back £34.99, includes a behind the scenes DVD, the game's soundtrack, a map of the game world, a game guide, a physical pamphlet, a coin "representing yet to be revealed parts of the game" and two papercraft figurines.

As rumoured yesterday, there's The Collector's Edition too, which, at £79.99, calls for slightly richer blood.

It includes all the Premium Edition's toot but then adds a 200-page artbook, a dice poker set, playing cards, stickers, a further papercraft figurine, a sculpture of Geralt, a real Temerian Omen and exclusive DLC.

The Collector's Edition is only available via online pre-order.

Anyone pre-ordering either edition of the CD Projekt-developed RPG sequel will also get another batch of free DLC, depending on which retailer you pick.

GameStop and thehut.com offer the Finisher Pack, containing additional finishing move animations and additional advanced fighting techniques.

GAME has Mysterious Merchant, which allows you to purchase unique items from a "shady tradesperson".

HMV boasts the Ultimate Alchemy Suit, offering unique items, increases the loot output and extends the duration of potions.

Amazon offers the Ultimate Swordsman Suit which contains a set of unique items, boosts sword fighting stats and increases the chance for triggering rare effects in combat.

Finally, Play.com has the Ultimate Magical Suit. This contains a unique set of items, enhances the new sixth magical sign and boosts the effectiveness of all other signs.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is due out on PC on 17th May. For more on the follow-up to the fun-but-flawed original, take a look at Eurogamer's recent interview with the game's senior producer Tomasz Gop and level designer Marek Ziemak.

Pre-order it from GoG, obviously: http://www.gog.com/en/page/tw2_preorder/

That is an amazing set of acknowledgements they have there.

Of course, retailers might have other discounting powers.

GOG for me as well, and I would say anyone interested in this game should buy it from there (yes even you Steam only people!) to just to send the message to the industry that most of us paying PC gamers are pretty fed up with the DRM mistreatment we get.

I am getting both, GOG version and also CE from thehut..thought about ordering from GAME, but thehut has better bonus, so I will get it from them.
Although I was really satisfied with New Vegas CE from GAME.

I hate this nonsense. It's not so bad when the items you get from any given retailer are only useful in the early or middle parts of the game, but these things all sound like they would be major, major boosts. I'm going to have to hold off for a GOTY/Enhanced Edition-type thing, unfortunately. That plan worked out well for Dragon Age, at least.

^^ Agreed. I would really like all the damn DLC ;( Would not mind forking out the dosh either, but it seems that there is just no option to get everything. Wonder why the hell in the first place the publishers would take this route?

Anyone care to shine some light on this?

Probably to shut up the retailers, who've realized they are part of a dying breed :D I mean, they are mostly there to lure you from Steam or GoG.

I would say GoG probably gives the largest amount of proceedings to the company, and you get $16 to spend on GoG-games if you are in the EU.

Retailers need something to attract buyers to them.

I don't mind, most of these item things end up not that special, either way.

Does that mean i get none of the pre-order content like the mysterious stranger if i download from GoG?
  • hiddenranbir #9 2 years ago

Those contents are unique to each retailer as incentive to pick them.

But, I imagine, down the line, they'll be available for everyone? (If they are game-changing)

Rajin: I think it's safe to assume that's the case.

hiddenranbir: I know that pre-order exclusive stuff like the Gigawatt Blades for Infamous is sometimes made available at a later date, sometimes at a cost. I can't think of any cases off the top of my head where retailer-exclusive stuff is made available later on, though...
