UK chart: COD batters competition
UPDATE: Why Kinect Adventures is absent.
Update: Number cruncher GfK Chart-Track has explained to Eurogamer why sales of Kinect Adventures - the game the Kinect camera is bundled with - haven't been included.
Microsoft's view on this is that the Sensor sells for £129.99 and that Adventures will not be sold separately - it is a pack-in product," Chart-Track's Dorian Bloch revealed.
This is similar to Wii Sports, which was never tracked as a software item as it was never available as a solus product - only with hardware.
Original story: Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops has, predictably, obliterated all challengers in the UK all-formats chart.
This outcome was all but written last week when we heard that Black Ops had recorded the biggest day-one sales of any game ever released in UK.
A whopping 1.4 million copies of the Vietnam War game were sold in just 24 hours here.
Treyarch's shooter is top, then, and a majority 56 per cent of copies were sold on Xbox 360.
FIFA is second, Just Dance 2 third and the first Kinect newcomer Kinect Sports fourth.
Football Manager 2011 is fifth, Professor Layton and the Lost Future sixth and Fallout: New Vegas seventh.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Sims 3 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II rounded out the top 10.
There's no sign of the Kinect hardware-bundled game Kinect Adventures. The rest of the Kinect slate performed like this: Dance Central is 13th, MotionSports 15th, Fighters Uncaged 23rd, Kinectimals 26th, Kinect Joy Ride 30th, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 33rd and Sonic Free Riders 38th.
Remember, Eurogamer's review of the Kinect hardware and the launch line-up of games can be found on the homepage right now.
Sonic Colours had a disappointing first week way down in 36th. Fable III fell rapidly this week from third to 16th. Lionhead's game lead the UK all-formats chart two weeks ago.
Eurogamer TV goes to the Kinect launch.

I'm actually really pissed about Black Ops for one reason. They seriously fucked up the local split screen multiplayer. I know, I know, no one plays that any more. But me and my friends get together and actually play it split screen. A lot. I managed to prestige twice just playing split screen on Modern Warfare 2.
What did Treyach do? Remove all progression, remove all the customisation to the play lists, get rid of player positions on the map (trust me, this is very useful with only 4 players) and generally make it pointless to play.
Cheers guys

Has anyone seen any promotion for this at all?

Surprising to see Kinect Sports well above Dance Central, but that may be down to the existing 360 demographic perhaps being more inclined to kicking footballs than shaking booty.....
MS and Rare will be happy with the sales no doubt. Will be interesting to see whether the sales remain as 'sticky' as those of the Wii equivalents.
As for no Kinect Adventures, I assume these sale are not included due to the title being sold alongside the hardware. If so, this is a little odd as Kinect is technically a peripheral, an I seem to recall Wii Play having chart representation alongside controller sales for months.

Thoroughly depressing
Same here. Literally everyone on my firends list over the weekend was playing Codblops, apart from one person who was playing, split/second.

Eh? Sales are pretty close between the platforms, and considering there are slightly less PS3 owners out there that makes it pretty even to me.

Why the hell would there be? Its a barcodeless pack-in product, and doesn't qualify for the chart in its current form.

Yeah, fucking depresses me to see people enjoying themselves. Those wankers. Why can't they enjoy the same games I do?

in any case, depressing times indeed.... btw How come Kinect Adventures is not there, is it not counted because it's bundled with hardware? was Wii sports included?
EDIT: saw the update now!
The US does include them though. I actualy agree with not including them as they inflate software sales and attach ratios.

Activision have realised PC gamers don't seem to be as excited about Call of Duty as consolers, but the lack of dinosaurs in Black Ops proves they no longer listen to their fanbase... <a href="http://i.imgur.com/w9MAc.png

Is that seriously real?
PC getting less than 3%?
I realise a lot of software on PC are sold via download but that 3% manages to tells a lot of a story about all the PC owners who swore that download distribution future is still only a dream and not a reality to be completely wrong or that PC sales are indeed that very bad?
I prefer the possibility of the former, basically from my experience as I purchases 95 percent of my PC games online such as GoG and Steam.

Trying to find these exact things out and more. It's a tricky business - bit cagey with numbers around these parts.

On the Chart-Track website they state that the Xbox 360 sold 55%. Yet on the documents released with the full run down we're told 54% Xbox 360 standard edition plus 2% for another Xbox 360 edition (presumably collectors). Thus, 56%.
On the documents, PS3 has sold 41%, whereas on the website that percentage is 42%.
And yes - the bulk of PC sales are done digitally. NPD tracks this but not Chart-Track. Steam's not generally in the habit of releasing numbers either.

Unfortunately it's popular now, though. And if there's one thing gamers can't deal with, it's popular things.
