First batch of Fable III DLC dated

Understone unravels beneath Bowerstone.

Understone, the first batch of proper Fable III DLC, will be released on 23rd November, Microsoft has said.

It'll cost 400 Microsoft Points.

Microsoft's Live community man Graeme Boyd tweeted that Understone will be set in a secret underworld beneath Bowerstone. Could this be linked to the gargoyles in Fable II?

Also coming are the Fable III pre-order bonuses: the hairstyle pack for 160 MSP and the five-star dog potion for 80 MSP.

Fable III was released in October. Check out Eurogamer's review.

    Hairstyle pack and 5-star dog potion? Pretty sure I never got those with my order..
  • Vitor #2 2 years ago

    And PC version...?

    Wasn't it implied that that would launch alongside the GFWL revamp? Yet to hear anything related to that since the initial announcement.
  • midnight_walker #3 2 years ago

    I can't think of a single 400 point expansion pack that wasn't a complete waste of time.
  • andywilkie35 #4 2 years ago

    Glad I didn't get this on launch if they're going to be releasing DLC. Will get it when its £20 next year with all the DLC bundled in, in the "GOTY edition", or what is also known as the "Full game edition"
  • thedaveeyres #5 2 years ago

    Jesus Christ... too soon!

    I've no time to play this at the moment so I'm going to wait for the inevitable GOTY edition.

    All i got was the create a villager and 2 weapons. also downloaded the free weapons which are wauy overpowerd if you have them at the start. made it easy.
  • BabyJesus #8 2 years ago

    Um, I'm still waiting for the patch. How about giving me that before trying to sell me DLC.
  • ouchio #9 2 years ago

    This DLC shit is back firing on them!
    I dont buy games like this now as I know I have to wait til the goty (LOLFable3..GotY..LOL..) edition comes out cheap with all the rip off and probably quite crappy dlc on the disc where it was til they cut it. This trend and preorder bonuses send me very angry VERY ANGRY
    PS They also need to work on patching this apparentloy bug ridden piece of crap first rather than robbing their own customers for crappy dlc

    On the Fable boards one of the devs has mentioned that 95% of the DLC stuff was NOT finished by cert... They mention everything but the black dye, which does seem like it was removed to make money, which is not on.

    The whole point of DLC is that if you want to play a game more, download the DLC, if you don't.. don't.... Not that tough really.. No one is getting ripped off.

    Much like i buy an album from a band, then later on they release a new single. If i liked the album, i'll buy the single, if i didn't, i won't. The band won't delay the album for another 3 months to write, record and release an extra single on it, publishers have deadlines and release dates to hit.

    More Fable III, always a good thing!

    But yes, it could probably do with a hefty bug-fixing update.
  • kangarootoo #13 2 years ago

    5 star dog pack? Is this one of these DLC items that basically cheats you ahead?

    A fool and their money....
  • Moribundman #14 2 years ago

    I'm all for DLC to keep the game fresh after you've played it to death (Red Dead, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3). Red Dead and Mass Effect presumably had the voice actors record all their additional lines well in advance for their major add-ons, and were planned long in advance of the actual development of the DLC (which took place post release).

    That said, this is pretty early for paid DLC justified by being created post-gold. They released a 160MSP dog costume so you could dress up as your dog as day 1 paid DLC. This begs the question of what justified that as a single individual download that needed paying for... Understone will probably be the same quality as the F2 add ons (which were good) but it is being released awfully close to the game release date, which will get all the DLC haters up in arms...

    And @darleysam is right. Hairstyle pack and 5 star dog potion were neither pre-order, nor limited edition, nor controller, nor game guide based DLC. Unless the description is incorrect this is all new doggy (costume) style DLC...

    Indeed, I never understood how something that makes the game piss easy is supposed to be a bonus.

    Like the Blood Dragon armour in Dragon Age, after just looking at the stats I decided to never use it, it's just so much ahead of the best armour I had at the time that I saw it that it was a complete game breaker.
  • BuddyChrist #16 2 years ago

    Returned this game as I completed it within the return policy time. I had fun buying everything and being immensely powerful. It pissed me off when I accidentally went and completed the game. What a massive disappointment.

    I dunno. By the time I'd levelled Lelina far enough to wear it, for Joan of Arc style awesomeness, it was far enough in the game that it wasn't unbalancing at all.

    and yeah this hairstyle and dog potion thing's a new one on me - was that a US-only preorder bonus or something?

    I have mixed feelings about DLC - I think its great when the retail game itself 'feels' like a complete package and the DLC expands the experience. For me, the DLC for Assassin's Creed 2, Alan Wake and Resi Evil 5 were great.

    However, Fable 3 doesn't feel like a complete game - compared at least to Fable 2. It feels smaller with less areas to explore and with the reduced number of dyes, hairstyles, clothes etc in the towns' shops - I immediately got that sense in my gut that these things would be added via DLC and that killed the immersion of the game for me.

    Regarding the comparison to a band's album - and then buying new singles... The difference here I think, is that an album is still a complete project, whereas singles are the next projects in the band's career. If the music industry did do DLC it would be like buying an album at full price and only getting five tracks - and then being given the option to buy additional tracks of the album seperately.

    I am a huge fan of Fable 1 and 2 and I was so excited about number 3. But what with the lack of in game content and the fact that John Cleese is constantly telling me to 'check the sanctuary shop' to buy things - the game feels to me like a cynical marketing exercise and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth...

    Don't talk sense to the trolls, they don't like it!!

    I've been making games for 17 years now... god, is it that long? Back in the days before DLC, we'd finish a game and then when that was sent off to submission all go on holiday. Then come back and start on the next game.

    These days you finish the game and then go straight onto DLC. You still have 2 whole months to work on the DLC while the game goes to cert, fails cert, goes back to cert, passes cert, goes gold, gets manufactured, gets distributed, sits in a shop for a week, goes on sale.

    In those 2 months you can easily write another decent sized quest, or artists make new haircuts, dogs, weapons, hats, etc... I think it takes less time for 100+ people to make content for a game than 5 people to come up with a new song :).

    In a game that doesn't allow the player to die, it doesn't matter what weapon you use. You start the game overpowered!

    That shop stuff is damn annoying. im not buying it just to get rid of the message. i dont believe in buying avatar crap. i like mine looking like a cheap gimp.

    PC version will come out between November 14th and December...something. That's what Amazon thinks, at least.(Also incredibly happy I preordered this on Amazon in case they decide to bump the price up by ten dollars)
  • themerlin13 #29 2 years ago

    They owe us money for the buggy game never mind asking us to pay them more! FFS Lionhead a fix for the "falling through the map" would be nice! 25hours gameplay lost!!
    Kiss my fat hairy @SS
  • monkfishjoe #30 2 years ago

    Although the game was released recently it would have been finished a while ago.

    Hope this is better than fable 2 dlc. I bought the first one and felt a bit ripped off
  • kangarootoo #31 2 years ago

    @BuddyChrist

    "It pissed me off when I accidentally went and completed the game"

    Me too. Once that snowball was rolling, there was no bloody stopping it. I'd got bugger all done in the world at large (I owned like 6 houses and about 3 shops, no demon doors opened, just 4 silver keys in my pocket, sod all money to my name - it was a shock I can tell you).

    I'm a second now playthrough with the gift of hindsight.

    Be warned new players, take your time, seriously.
  • kangarootoo #32 2 years ago

    @themerlin13

    How on earth did falling through the map cost you more than 10 mins gameplay time? It auto-saves like mad, and you can reload a previous save from the same place you manually save.
  • kangarootoo #33 2 years ago

    @coomber

    You know when you reload your last save in other games? Well technically, they aren't letting you die either.

    However you dress things up, the only game that truly "lets you die" is a game with no save system.
  • themerlin13 #34 2 years ago

    @kangarootoo
    Well when you play the game you can use a map to fast travel and once you arrive it auto saves so when you reload your still stuck, and you can't access the map room pressing start it just gives you the "game management" menu.

    Tried everything along with 100's of other people. google it!
  • Xardan #35 2 years ago

    Some people already have this DLC as it was released free on fable III release day on the marketplace along with lots of other DLC. It was soon taken down of course.
  • kangarootoo #36 2 years ago

    @themerlin13

    Ahhh, I see what you mean now. Sorry about that. It does indeed annoying disable the sactuary at times, and the combination you describe makes sense. My bad.
