UK chart: Medal of Honor wins gold

Just Dance 2 is just third.

EA's war game Medal of Honor has surged into the UK all-formats chart at number one.

It's the biggest ever UK launch week for a Medal of Honor title. Of total sales, 52 per cent were made on Xbox 360, 43 per cent on PS3 and 5 per cent on PC. Remember that digital sales aren't counted.

Medal of Honor is the fourth biggest Xbox 360 game-launch of 2010, and the fifth biggest on PS3.

Ubisoft's sequel to party sensation Just Dance managed third.

That meant last week's leader FIFA 11 was pushed to second.

Wii Party was fourth, PES 2011 fifth, F1 2010 sixth and Dead Rising 2 seventh.

Halo: Reach hung on in eighth ahead of another newcomer Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 in ninth.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow rounded the chart out in 10th.

    Too early for the christmas party game rush...JD2 will probably fall out of the top ten for a month then fly into first.
  • layleeloo #2 2 years ago

    @gambit1977. I would think dance central would be a contenter tp JD2, but as MS cant make enough Kinects to fill a single HMV store, looks like JD2 will triumph as you say as hardly anyone will have Kinect's at Christmas due to non supply

  • layleeloo #4 2 years ago

    @TheDellBingo

    Becasue Castlevania is a well established brand of over 20 years with a loyal following. Enslaved is a decent game but its no better or worse than Vania.

    @layleeloo
    I think I know what your name means, is it fifth element? Do I win a prize?

    Yeah, I agree! I can't help but feel between scalpers and the fact money is tighter these days, Microsoft are missing the Mark. The days of witholding stock to create demand are over. Look at move, it's selling steadily, in fact most would say it's far exceeding expectations. They need to get it out there to have any chance of competing with the wii Christmas buys.

    Really enjoyed Enslaved, hope they're given the budget to make another great, story driven game.

    But those awful, dull hover-board bits I can live without. Especially the chase sequences. Was too difficult to control and got dry very quickly.

    Platforming was so easy at points it was almost patronising. Although I'm not so sure how they can fix it as would be worse to be jumping to your death every 10 seconds. And it didn't ruin the game either.

    Solid 8/10.

    So disappointed by MOH, only took 4 hours to complete on hard. Story/campaign was dull, multiplayer is okay but overall just buggy and lackluster. I expected more after hearing all the touting about how Tier1 is the mutts nutts, and it will be a COD killer. Yet it fails to beat it in every area.

    Enslaved is a far more engrossing and deserving game, that should be number 1.

    @gambit1977. haha I see where you are coming from, but Fith Element sounded like Leeloo haha. My PS3 name is layloo which sounds even similar but funnily enough, I have been using these names since before then (its an ex girlfriend thing! haha).

    Yes - the MS & kinect sit is infuriating. Even more so for my mate who owns a game shop and is getting on 2 - and they are just the console bundle versions aswell. So I have had to pre order from HMV but as with any Multi National, not one of them has had confirmed numbers yet so every single pre order is in vain which is a crap situation. You are right about Move,I bought that too on day of relase like I do all new gaming tech (I like to make opinions based on fact and experience rather than fanboy based derogatory speculation). Although I havnt been overhwelved by Move i think it was just due to the crap line up of games so hopefully the fight and others coming soon will show it off better. As for Kinect - well, time will tell. I had ordered it anyway and had a go at one of the MS roadshows which was fun. Whether or not it will be a fad remains to be seen, but considering I have a house of a few women on Sat the 13th Nov, I am just hoping I can get a Kinect and Dance Central simply for my own pervy viewing - if not actual participation! Whey hey! ;-)
  • layleeloo #9 2 years ago

    @The DellBingo. "Enslaved is an infinitely superior game as far as I'm concerned".

    I think you mean "You much prefer Enslaved to Vania" which is fine - personal opinions and all that. But lets be serious whether you like Vania or not, and im no fanboy of it - but when we say "superioir" if we are on about the game as a whole and techical acheivement in every aspect then I think Encharted, sorry - Enslaved comes a distant second (although I did quite enjoy it, but only slightly the way through Vania thus far as the new Fifa and PES' have taken up most of my time).

    As for being cheap to pick up, maybe. But then so will Enslaved as its a one time play through game for most people. Once finished Vania I will flog it for sure, im not fanboy enough to keep it once finished, but nearly every game is cheap quite quickly after launch nowardays. You just have to look on the right retail sites.

    Enslaved is brilliant barring the hover boarding. That sucked. But the game had so much charm and atmosphere. Catlevania felt plastic to me.

    @layleeloo, haha I thought it was your dream to...well...layleeloo ;) the kinect party sounds awesome! Make sure you supply pics!
  • layleeloo #11 2 years ago

    @gambit1977 - hahaha good pun! ;-)

    As for my party - well, hence why I am hoping I can pick up a Kinect. Otherwise I will just be watching (and filming on the IP4 to upload to FB like I did last time) them murder songs on Singstar and kill some tracks on Guitar Hero! haha. But as we know, ladies do love the dancing as I am sure I love to watch! hehe. Saying that, if the Kinect fails I could always get my Wii back of my parents as I have Just Dance (I gave my wii to the folks when I bought Move haha).

    Poor Enslaved, beaten by a game called Ultimate Ninja Storm 2.
    Maybe Enslaved should have been called Monkey: Ultimate Robot Fighter instead.

    Why do these articles always say "The full UK all-formats top 40 will follow." instead of showing the chart? Is there a reason they don't show it when they put the article up?
  • Machetazo #14 2 years ago

    Ninja Storm sequel: could you find out the per-platform percentage split, on that one, please? Is the addition of a 360 version the defining factor - what's the story, there? License titles (i read) tend to do better on PS3...Please look in to it, if you're able. :)
  • layleeloo #15 2 years ago

    @thedellbingo. Ooooh bold. "extremely over-hyped". Erm, do you read reviews or have you actualy played through the game? It hasnt been over hyped, as I havnt seen one review saying its brilliant?? They were all middle of the road reviews to good at best, which funnily enough is exactly what your "supposed" superiour Enslaved got too - Mediocre to good reviews. So, as I say - no better, no worse.

    Nor is it rocket science to think a new IP in this day and age will sell well. Unfortunately very few do which is a shame and contributes to contant sequels of established brands. But the fact Enslaved isnt a massive seller is hardly shocking news to anyone is it, or rocket science as you say!

    good to see castlevania in the top 10 still, awesome game

    although it wasnt til Chapter 3 that I started to like it, its a better game than Enslaved IMO, but my opinion is backed up by better scores

    Played Mehdal of honour (that's not a typo) over the weekend and while it is enjoyable, everything about it is average. Multiplayer is solid but nowhere near as good as bbc2. And the single player is short and easy as hell on hard( and very average) MeH gets a solid 6/10 from me.
  • t8yman #25 2 years ago

    JD2 is a far superior game to MOH- In my opinion. JD2 will get hours and hours of use in my house, whereas MOH is getting traded this week.
  • Machetazo #26 2 years ago

    #22: its a better game than Enslaved IMO, but my opinion is backed up by better scores

    ??? Translation, anyone, or was that intended to be as stupid as it reads? Your opinion is that Castlevania's a better game than Enslaved, validated by a Metacritic average - really? Not by your own experiences, or how you felt, that are so much more valuable as guages, and discussion points.
  • Fightclubber #27 2 years ago

    I feel ashamed that i added to that number one entry.

    And Enslaved should be rocking the top 10 the game is truly utterly wonderful. People moan about the ease of plat forming etc but in all fairness it really adds to the speed and flow of the game.
    The game would lose so much if you spent 4 years looking at a wall for a jumping point.

    Castlevania's like a compare/contrast. You can clearly see the perils that can be introduced (staring at you, in particular, Clockwork Tower :p), when you don't take the Enslaved route for platform/traversal. They are largely night/day contrasting examples, though. Castlevania, however, manages to do it's flashing hand grips FAR more subtly, than I witnessed from the Enslaved demo, which in turn looked ridiculous, and helped break immersion into tiny pieces. No comment on how the ful game fares from me, as I'm still whipping through Gabriel's adventurel.
  • SteveHolt #29 2 years ago

    Please don't try and start a Castlevania vs Enslaved war: both are very good games, and both deserve our money for different reasons. MOH, on the other hand, does not.
  • Vanmunt #30 2 years ago

    Re: Castlevania

    I thought the days of playing with a guide were dead..... stupid puzzles, inconsistant boss fight mid point saving, overall very underwhelmed.
  • gillri #31 2 years ago

    @Machetazo

    is english you first language? read what I said...'IMO' that means that I preferred the game to Enslaved......got it?

    so in your terms that is how I felt and my experiences....ok?

    then I go on to say but my opinion is backed up by better scores....which means that my opinion has just that bit more credence than someone who categorically says Enslaved is better

    Steve, agreed. I'm not kicking off any war between the two games, I'm just discussing, and highlighting design differences in them.

  • sargeant_samporridge #34 2 years ago

    must be something to do with the price, tbh i brought MoH and im enjoying it despite metacritics agrigated take on it, not to mention that blockbuster gave me a good deal that being buy MoH for 33.99 with a cod black ops preorder and come nov the 9th i can trade in MoH for £30 against black ops preoder price of 43.99,
  • Machetazo #35 2 years ago

    @vanmunt: Castlevania's puzzles ought to serve as a wakeup call for some developers, as well an example of consistency, and how to successfully add a change of pace to gameplay, without filler, or grind. They're on the whole, intelligent and well done.
  • Feanor #36 2 years ago

    Should be PES 2011 in the 5th spot, right?
  • darkmorgado #37 2 years ago

    I agree, with one notable exception - those light/shadow runes that you need to light up. They are frustrating trial-and-error processes. It wouldn't be so bad if there were some sort of clue to which one should be which magic, but there isn't. And it's made worse by the fact that a wrong guess costs you health, as well as resets the entire thing - which can be deadly if you have just come out of a particularly gruelling fight (castle outer wall springs to mind). The Electrical field puzzle in Frankenstein's lab was also incredibly frustrating - I only managed it through luck.
  • Munkhee #38 2 years ago

    Well, sounds like I'm in the definite minority here, but I thoroughly enjoyed MoH. Thought the campaign was everything Modern Warfare 2 should have been - it's like EA looked at the original Modern Warfare, and took the best levels (the opening tanker mission, Ghille's in the mist) and made a whole game out of them. Was *exactly* what I wanted. Really enjoying the MP too (which is a first for me - just haven't been able to get into CoD multiplayer).

    Horses for courses I guess...
  • Machetazo #39 2 years ago

    "which can be deadly if you have just come out of a particularly gruelling fight (castle outer wall springs to mind)"

    Darkmorgado: You make a fair point, in that particular case (the fact you need to clear the monsters out, before you can begin a puzzle that saps health itself), but the scrolls. Always read the scrolls! ;) I can't remember a time that there wasn't a scroll that gave a clue to the solution about which of the runes to illuminate.

    The electric field after the monstrosity scorpion returns becomes a lot more manageable, once you notice the little platform being conveyed around in the top right. From there, you just need to work out the behaviour of the room, and how your changes are affecting it, to proceed.

    @TheDellBingo.

    How ignorant are you? haha. You look at my gamer profile and deduce that I have played neither? haha. So are you blind or thick? I opt for the latter. Becasue you are looking at my XBOX gamercard you numpty. Anyone who knows anything about games which you clearly don't, buys games on the console they are best on. Thus, castlevania is better on PS3, so I buy it on PS3. Can you see my PS3 gamercard there? No - but youcan see my collection which you blatantly ignore before making your petulant assumptions. Interesting. If you want a breakdown of both games you can have one - but oh wait, you "coviniently" play games for a living? Well, that does make you the oracle of informed opinion then doesnt it. Therefore I must take you as gospel and bow down and say no more! haha ;)

    moh is gonna drop far the story on hard is the easiest and shortest ever while the multiplayer is a faster version of bfbc with no strategy to winning behind it. it just lacks fun and gets boring quick in my opinion but i suppose it wil tie me on till black ops. shame really i loved the old ones
