UK chart: FIFA 11 holds lead

Enslaved, Castlevania make top 10.

FIFA 11 has spent a second week at the top of the UK all-formats chart. Rival football game Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 had to settle for a debut in second.

That's the first time a PES game hasn't topped the charts since 2001, when the original game was beaten to the top-spot by Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Apparently a whopping 71 per cent of PES 2011 purchases were made for PS3.

Newcomers Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West arrived in the top 10, but only managed sixth and seventh, respectively.

Dead Rising 2 spent a third week in third and pushed F1 20101 down to fourth. Halo: Reach was fifth.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Just Dance and new game Wii Party rounded out the top 10.

New rally driving game WRC just missed out in eleventh.

Further down, NBA 2K11 managed a first week in 19th.

Incidentally, this means that Eurogamer's Tom Bramwell got three out of five of his UK chart predictions right in last week's inaugural Out This Week column.

Enslaved and Castlevania make top 10. Enough of the beastly Americanisms already*!

    *See? Horrible, isn't it?
  • miiiguel #2 2 years ago

Dead Rising is doing very good.
  • thesonglessbird #3 2 years ago

Impressive. Last year's PES straight in at number 2.
  • Edz72 #4 2 years ago

And yet imo this is the first time in the last few years that PES is the better football game..
  • alimokrane #5 2 years ago

Why did Castlevania and Enslaved have to be released on the same week :( Both great games but ActionAdventure fans will probably buy one over the other reducing sales of both and potentially killing their sequel chances .... sigh

Castlevania is just brilliant, been waitign for a hack and slash with a huge sense of adventure for a while now
  • LazyNinjaUk #7 2 years ago

I really want Enslaved to do well as its a great game and I know Ninja Theory put a lot of effort into it. It does frustate me that games like FIFA and PES can just fire out games every year with little in the way of new features and always get the top spot.

If any game needed a beneficial release delay it was Enslaved. Should have been launched post Xmas really. Then again, maybe the sales targets aren't unrealistically high considering it's a new IP.
    Maybe...

Halo Reach in 5th less than 4 weeks after release is surprising
  • layleeloo #10 2 years ago

sfp_noodle. Why is it? Its a one platform game with a dedicated following who the majority would buy on day one. So I'm surprised it still that high now, simply becasue the die hards snap things up early so the latter weeks i'd be surprised if it sold in any major numbers, regardless of whether its good or not. This is the same for any major platform exclusive really, not just Halo. The same used to happen with Oasis CD's in the 90's. Sell millions, in at number one, then by the 3rd week it would drop down the charts like a lead weight simply becasue so many bought it early on - it didnt continue to sell in subsequent weeks as everyone who wanted it bought it very early on

No it's not, as it's a very "core" title, it's not a mainstream one like Fifa (the kind of games my colegues buy, from the 2 titles they buy each year - the other one being CoD), and as PS3 gets market share it's going to be hard for an exclusive title to ne on top for long. Other examples being every exclusive PS3 title, not a single one got to stay at #1 for more than a week.

    PES flopped...opening week 10x less than Fifa,lol
    10x...lolol
Glad to see Enslaved close to that snooze fest called Castlevania.
  • Deckard1 #13 2 years ago

Loving enslaved and fifa at the moment. Nice to see pes is getting a bit better now, can't see it catching fifa anytime soon though, still feels like its a generation behind imo.

'...pushed F1 20101 down to fourth...' future shock!

    also 2nd place PES2010 ? Retro shock!

Fair play to PES11, interesting to see if more people pick it up and it takes on a slow burner chart position.

Thought castlevania would do better tho, but with the other titans around it's done well too I guess.

    Also woot 2K11

@des. "Flopped"? hahaha. So a number 2 position is flopping? That makes sense....
Considering for some bizarre reason Fifa 11 is the fastest sports game OF ALL TIME - are you surprised? No other sports game can compete with that, regardles if its any good, or you are a fifa or pes man.

I'm really enjoying both Enslaved and Castlevania but I fear that is about as high as they'll get in the charts. Damn you, stupid football games!
  • SteveHolt #17 2 years ago

FIFA 11 Online Pro Clubs is still a broken mess ATM, don't buy it if you're interested in that feature.

Glad to see that DR2, castlevania and enslaved are doing well - stellar games, all 3 of them.

Now that's a very good top 7 for a change (sorry Tiger Woods fans but I went off the series two years ago when I realised I was buying the same damn game every twelve months!).
  • Gamez_Kartel #19 2 years ago

Wow so FIFA 11 is a New Entry and Pro Evolution 2010 is 2nd?
  • ziggy_played_guitar #20 2 years ago

Is FIFA11 any good, to someone who hasn't played a footy sim since PES06 ? Or is it overkill ?
  • layleeloo #21 2 years ago

@ziggy_played_guitar. How to open a can of worms hey!

There are many who will say yes, as it is after all the fastest selling sports game ever. However, like any review tells you, the leaps to 11 from 10 are no way near as great as 10 was from 09. As for overkill - well only in the sense that you now have player personality so they each act more like their real life counterparts. From a gampleplay point of view whether this is a good thing or a bad one is personal taste. Myself, I dont like it. Played Fifa 11 round my mates and found it getting a bit much now, a bit too complicated/sim like. If you havnt played one since you say, then I would reccoment Fifa 10 - not only is it great, you will get it for all of about a fiver now this has come out. I have had and loved Fifa for four years but got PES 11 this year. Its all personal taste. Fork out a full RRP on Fifa 11, or pay a fiver for Fifa 10 which reivews state, isnt all that different after all.

(of course, there will be many Fifa 11 die hards who say im talkin gshit and get it as its the best thing ever - but like I say, this is just my view. Read reviews for Fifa 10 & 11 and decide yourself weighing up whether you are getting that much more to jusify spending £35 more on Fifa 11 than Fifa 10).

    A little bit late...

"hahaha. So a number 2 position is flopping? That makes sense.... "
Yeah you are right, when your competitor outsells you by 10:1,that is not a flop...disaster is more appropriate word

It still amazes me that some people cling to chart positions without numbers...PES opening week is about 82k ,Fifa is about 820k...lol
Just like some people praised some sony dildo game...omg second place...and that turned out to be 14k...lol...
