Free costumes for Red Dead next week
Savvy Merchant and Expert Hunter.
Red Dead Redemption cowboys will be able to download a free Hunting and Trading Outfits Pack next week, starting Tuesday, 12th October.
Inside this cloth bundle are a Savvy Merchant outfit and Expert Hunter get-up. The Savvy Merchants among you will be decked out in a suave double-breasted jacket with a bold collar and neat flat cap. When equipped, all guns and ammunition will be half price.
The Expert Hunters, meanwhile, will find themselves with animal hide on head and body. It's the perfect mix of style and functionality, and poor old Bambi won't spot you coming. When equipped, you'll receive double the amount of skins and hides from hunting.
Rockstar will also introduce a new creature: the jackalope. It's a cross between a jack rabbit and an antelope. It looks like a hare with antlers.
The Hunting and Trading Outfits Pack has a compatibility update to allow you to see costumes exclusive to the Liars and Cheats and Legends & Killars DLC. You won't be able to wear them until you buy the DLC, however.

Which means the paid DLC is actually new stuff and not an unlock on the disc you already own. Since this requires a patch for everybody, they throw in free stuff. In an industry stuck between bobby k and online passes, I find this awesome.

A few of my friends had spotted them before but nobody managed to catch one in time to get a screengrab.
Good to see those outfits, too.

But if I buy one I want to buy all, which means spending (another) 50€ on the game. No way.

Seriously, if you think the Liars and Cheats pack is poor value for 800 MS points, you must live in a universe where the ridiculous MW2 map pack prices didn't happen. I agree that the Legends and Killers pack is lacking in new content and is hardly worth the asking price but just think what you get with the newest dlc:
- online poker and liar's dice (the latter must count among the most relaxing past-time games on Live)
- an entire new game mode Stronghold with 4(?) new maps
- multiplayer horse races (forced expert targeting and limited ammo makes them a lot more fun than you'd expect)
- 7 new gang hideouts
- 4 new hunting grounds
- the new weapon explosive rifle
- 15 new characters from the SP campaign (professor MacDougal WTF)
- posse scoring and leaderboards

True, true, but some measure of recoding must have been needed nevertheless. Look, I'm biased as hell, what do I know lol. I love RDR. It's probably my western game of the decade, topping the likes of Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls III&IV both rolled into one. Rockstar quite possibly made enough money to cover the development budget in the first week of sales but still, games of this scope deserve more than little extra revenue from DLC sales. Its so good I had to buy it twice (friends list thingie, don't ask

I can think of at least a dozen 'episodes' that could take place in the expansive yet underused borders of New Austin. The game has so many possibilities given its setting 99 years ago that to just chuck out some half-hearted reskins, enable some stuff that should have been in the main multiplayer game by default, and put in some more competitive MP modes (snore...) seems like a waste of such a well realized and lovingly crafted game world.
But then, they can't have the resources to make a proper episode or two after firing so much of the team as soon as the game was out...
