Dragon Age: Origins gets Ultimate Edition

It only does everything.

BioWare has announced plans to wrap up all add-ons and DLC packs released for Dragon Age: Origins into one tidy package.

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition gathers together the original game, the Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening expansion and all seven DLC packs. That's The Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, The Darkspawn Chronicles, Leliana's Song, The Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt.

BioWare estimates that adds up to a handsome saving of $114 (£73 / €84) compared to shelling out for all the content individually. Why do we buy games at launch again?

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition ships on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 29th October. Eurogamer's Oli Welsh awarded the bare-bones original a middling 6/10 when it launched last year.

Dragon Age 2, due on 11th March 2011, looks like it could be a distinct improvement.

    Hang on...

I saw a Eurogamer article about this exact same thing months ago.

6/10. Ridiculous today as it was then.
  • ryanbreck #4 2 years ago

I have about half of the DLC, and think it works out cheaper for me to just buy the rest I fancy. Still, if you haven't picked this up by now, that is an enormous amount of content right there.
  • Plewt #5 2 years ago

Most of the DLC was pretty cack though was it not? Not that the main game was much good anyway. Baldur's Gate successor my arse.
  • Apaar #6 2 years ago

DA:o might just well be my favourite game of all time. Hopefully now even more people get to experience it. :)
  • Osahi #7 2 years ago

Think I'll wait for the Platinum/Classics release for this one. Always wanted to play it. Never wanted to pick it up at full price, and didn't pick it up when it came down to 30 euro's here. So now I have extra reasons to wait :p

Oh man, its going to be the same for Mass Effect 2. I know it. Perhaps when the PS3 version is released?
  • metallicorphan #9 2 years ago

this and Borderlands GOTY in the same month...i saw on GAME site that Borderlands GOTY will be £24.99
  • hjarg #10 2 years ago

    Awww, come on!
Cut the price tag into half... that here reminds me more of a highway robbery then good deal... Most of DLC-s were not so good anyways (Shale was the only one truly shining, rest were from meh to bah). So, a year old game, half a year old expansion and some DLCs with questionable quality. Seems like 84€ is just too much.
  • WinstonChurchill #11 2 years ago

£84 is the price you're saving by not buying all the DLC individually. It is not the retail price of the game
  • BlitzwingHaz #12 2 years ago

Is the X-Box version of the game with all this DLC added worth geting? The poor review it got put me off.
  • NewbieZilla #13 2 years ago

    Blitzwinghaz

    In my opinion, most definitely.
  • trip919 #14 2 years ago

    Unsurprising, but welcome!
  • Plewt #15 2 years ago

    @BlitzwingHaz

I didn't care about using the isometric view at all in the pc version, and I've always been a big Baldur's Gate fan. At least that is a non-issue imo, don't know much about the xbox version otherwise.
  • darth_paul #16 2 years ago

Oli Welsh might have awarded 6/10 to the game, but I think the PC version is miles bgetter than the one released on the consoles. I think the Xbox version had a lot of its gameplay mechanic stripped away, in order to tranfor the game into a more console frioendly version
...again, EG forgetts about the PC :p
  • LiamK #17 2 years ago

Er, didn't EG do a seperate PC review that they awarded a higher score to?
  • metalangel #18 2 years ago

I think we need to hire a skywriter to scrawl "Why do we buy games at launch again?" in giant letters above EA's headquarters. And then send him on to some other devs.

I'm still waiting on my Mass Effect 2 Ultimate Edition.
  • enfilade #19 2 years ago

Thank heavens I didn't pay the eye-watering £32 for Awakenings on PSN!
  • LiamK #20 2 years ago

I suppose it would be pointless to point out that if no-one bought the games at launch, then there would never be the budget for the DLC to be added to an "ultimate edition" that was release later in the first place?
  • darkmorgado #21 2 years ago

I got this on launch but never actually devoted any time to it. I played as a human noble, and got to the point where my home was being invaded. If I remember correctly, I lost interest because at the time I was too busy playing burnout. Then the expansion came out, and I didn't want to carry on playing the base game without the expansions. Then all the DLC...

It's still sitting on my shelf, waiting to be played.

I'm sure it's a good game. I'm certain it's better than ME2 which was just so watered down it was ridiculous. There's just something preventing me from going back to it after all this time, especially when so many decent games are coming out recently.
  • Caimbeul #22 2 years ago

I bought DAO at launch and although the 2nd looks great, im not about to do it again, even if it takes a year!

    Fool me once...
  • randompanda #23 2 years ago

If there's no price, how are they calculating that saving?

    Better late than never.
Fallout 3 burned me as I had to re-buy it in form of the GOTY Edition.

I didn't buy Awakening + any DLC since I knew this would be coming (I bought the US Collector's Edition when I was over the pond though since it was pretty cheap).

I still didn't buy Mass Effect 2 due to the same reason. Huge backlog -> I can wait and I don't have the urge anymore to have everything "day one" like I did when I was younger.
Saves you tons of money in the long run...

so the ps3 version of awakenings will finally be available on disc in europe, scee haven't thought up some more retarded rules to keep us from getting it then. :)
  • dnimkrad #26 2 years ago

so it's project 10 dollar to get us to buy games first hand and relatively near to launch (based on the dragon age voucher code things having an expiration date) up against project $114 dollar that tells us to wait for an ultimate/goty edition... tough call

amazon has it priced at £30, which makes it cheaper than awakening on its own
  • Vergis69 #27 2 years ago

Yeah a 6/10 from eurogamer. Probably eurogamers worst review that ive seen so far. The game was at least a 8.5/9, bloody loved it.
  • Plewt #28 2 years ago

Yea and it was a 6/10 to the reviewer, what's your point? Are you really that naive that you cannot fathom that one persons opinion can differ from yours?
  • Turrican #29 2 years ago

So, um, whats the price then?
  • ReapingAngel #30 2 years ago

Thanks God, I didn't buy the game at launch. Been waiting to get this game now I believe this is the perfect time. Wow!!!
