Codies trying to make Steam sell F1 2010

"We're most definitely on it."

UPDATE: Codemasters has just told Eurogamer that the PC version of F1 2010 is unlocked on Steam.

ORIGINAL STORY: UK powerhouse Codemasters has promised irate gamers desperate to play the PC version of F1 2010 that it is "most definitely" on the case after digital distribution platform Steam failed to make the game available to download on release day.

Gamers were expecting F1 2010 to be available to download from Steam at midnight. When they found they weren't able to do so they reacted angrily on both Steam and Codemasters' forums.

Codies told Eurogamer this afternoon: "We'd anticipated it being live from midnight (UK, this seems to be affecting UK pre-order gamers) and indeed it is being listed as out now.

"We're addressing this with the Steam team in the US (West Coast) to have this remedied this afternoon."

British Standard Time is eight hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, so don't expect Valve to push the big red button in the sky for a few hours yet. They're probably snoring and dreaming of Half-Life 3.

In the UK the PC version of F1 2010 is a digital download exclusive unless you pre-ordered.

Codies' told Eurogamer the decision was "appropriate to market observations of boxed versus digital distribution of PC titles".

F1 2010 currently enjoys a consistent 85 on Metacritic, taking into account our own glowing 8/10 review. "The best F1 season in years deserves the best F1 game in years – thankfully, that's exactly what it's got," we wrote.

That's the problem with Steam releases - they're terribly inconvenient most of the time. And if it's a Valve title you're waiting to be released... oh, boy.
  • Darren #2 2 years ago

I'm so glad I pre-ordered my copy of F1 2010 on disc because it seems that there are a few games that aren't available straight away on Steam here in the UK. Darksiders isn't for example.
  • darleysam #3 2 years ago

Valve's draconian standards getting in the way of the customer's satisfaction. The only solution is for Codemasters to pull F1 2010 from Steam.

8/10 is "glowing"? What's a 10/10 then? And what if my amp goes to 11?

As for Steam, I'm a sucker for their sales, but I'd never buy a full-price title on day one there, let alone pre-order it.
  • Altrezia #6 2 years ago

A frustrated PC gamer, F1 fan and Pre-orderer here. :/

    "its shit anyway"

Even a blank disc couldn't be as shit as a) stealing other people's work b) bragging about a) and c) your comment.

Then again, there might be other things you'd rather blow your dole on.
  • thiagodeath #9 2 years ago

    live: thiago4santos
    i'm already playing it!
  • Eldritch #10 2 years ago

    @thiagodeath:

Cor, just got me from six to midnight, mate. Awesome.
  • djed #11 2 years ago

If you can't get your amp to glow at 8, you probably have a piece of shit plastic amp.
  • Eldritch #12 2 years ago

True, my amp's about as shit as retrend's approach to acquiring licensed entertainment software.
  • X201 #13 2 years ago

Great, Civ 5 delayed in the post and now this.

My Wonderful Weekend of Gaming: Cancelled :(
  • Eldritch #14 2 years ago

Yes, but a) Milo's been cancelled and b) wanking is still free. Just try staying positive!
  • Bmovie #15 2 years ago

Glad I'm at work having read that. Having the icon on my desktop for the last few days was annoying enough, nevermind on the day of release!
  • Eldritch #16 2 years ago

You tell 'em, retrend, you tell 'em!

Here, have some apostrophes and capital letters, you never know when you'll need them:

    ''''''''' ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

Enjoy the rest of "computer hour" at the ward now, and turn off the lights when you leave.

    WTF?! Stupid spammer.

Last time I ever pre-order anything on Steam. Sort it the fuck out Valve, there's a lot of pissed off gamers out there and I'm one of them.
  • ChthonicEcho #19 2 years ago

They won't sort it out until they have an office on the East coast. Only a (comparatively) small portion of Steam's maintenance is automated, while releases are regulated by employees. Their work day happens to be within a timezone highly inconvenient for the rest. I don't think there is any other fix besides another office, and I don't think Gabe will like that very much, given how much of a control freak he is.

    Should have been GFWL :D
  • CosmicGypsy #21 2 years ago

Well according to Eurogamer "retrend has no friends"

Probably because he is a grade A qunt.

Jesus, what would he do if people came to his place of work and start sucking dicks for free? It would be pretty hard to make enough money to pay for his mum's crack habbit, that's for sure.
  • dingo75 #22 2 years ago

lol, holier than thou nobheads, ill eat my hat if the majority of you dont have stolen music and movies somewhere.

The real silence falls once you ask who doesn't have downloaded porn they didn't pay for on their discs.
Another good one is tv series.
    Fucking hypocrits!
  • CosmicGypsy #23 2 years ago

How abaout a fair comparison though?

How many people have downloaded Music, Movies or Porn, then gone onto forums to compain that they are crap?

    Nobody?

    Thought so
  • Eldritch #24 2 years ago

    @CosmicGypsy:

I think retrend might actually befriend dingo75, and then the two of them can start trading stolen games and porn, riding off into the sunset, knowing they did the right thing.
  • Eldritch #25 2 years ago

You might want to ask retrend and dingo75 where you could nick them instead. Paying for stuff is for losers, after all, plus no more buyer's remorse.
  • MaxiSleep #26 2 years ago

What is amazing is the lack of communication from steam on this.

Global company = 24 hour support.
  • arcam #27 2 years ago

No need for a whole other office, they could just put a couple of guys on shifts, especially on days of big releases.
  • doggod #28 2 years ago

The amount of bugs in this game should have made it only warrant a score of 5 or 6
For those waiting on a delayed release ,might want to check codies forums for the list of bugs from hardware issues of top spec pcs only running the game at 30-50 fps while their cpu and gpu only being half used.
Not to talk of the gameplay bugs
    and the multiplayer bugs

Frankly im wondering did any reviewer actually play this game on pc before writing a review.
  • bad09 #29 2 years ago

An absolute farce coming at a time my confidence is Steam is already dented.

One thing for sure, after this happening a few times pre-orders if they happen are from boxed non-steamworks sources from now on.
  • Haloboy #30 2 years ago

Unlocked at bleeding last. Just restart steam and be sure to decrypt files before you defrag.

Shopto pre-order PC version for me. Played a couple hours last night, raced Bahrain then Melbourne. Didn't notice any bugs or performance issues myself. Although as I found on Dirt 2 you'll need to turn V sync on or you'll get some hefty screen tearing in the paddock area, since the FPS is a lot higher there.

All settings maxed, only a GTX 260 video card. I understand a DX10 patch is due later and the release version is only DX9. But still, looks really nice as is.
  • MrLovePump #32 2 years ago

Got it on the 360 yesterday, pretty good so far. Not sure on the difficulty balancing though. First race in a lotus won on intermediate AI. Set it up 1 notch to pro... Qualified 24th lol.
  • X201 #33 2 years ago

    Its unlocked! \o/
