Phantasy Star Online 2 announced

Coming to PC next year.

Phantasy Star Online 2 has been announced and will be released next year.

SEGA blew the whistle in a video at the Tokyo Game Show 2010 (thanks, VG247).

Actual gameplay details weren't mentioned. SEGA instead used the video as a chance to reminisce.

Phantasy Star Online was originally released for SEGA's darling Dreamcast a decade ago. Eurogamer existed back then, and would-be editor Tom Bramwell heralded PSO as "a masterpiece". Numerous "Episode" additions were released on various formats in subsequent years, although none quite scaled the same heights as the original.

SEGA Europe offered no comment.

This gaming week is incredible for me, something is happening to most of my fave games. Ninja Gaiden 3 and PSO 2 announced back to back, and Pokemon Black/White being released in Japan in two days time. Also Halo Reach and Sonic Adventure XBLA just been released.

Whilst this is great news - playing the original on the DC solidly for a month is one of my favourite gaming memories - I'll be disappointed if it doesn't come to consoles. I'd love a 360 version, if they can find a way around hefty subscriptions on top of XBL Gold membership.....

All they need to do is release the original PSO, stop the stupid lack of subscription cancellation option ( if you cancellled your sub on xbox for PSO or PSU on 360 you essentially lost the account )....then imagine booting the game up only to see the original intro and hear the awesome " a whole new world" type song that used to start PSO.

Essentially, get the pricing right and stop trapping people into the subs guys.
