Tonight's London party will be busy.

The Halo: Reach launch party guestlist has been revealed.

Among the celebrities are Rio Ferdinand, Jason Bradbury, Jameela Jamil, Ben Cohen and Mr Hudson - a group better known as the Elite Spartan Squad. But there are many more well-known faces besides: pop stars Pixie Lott and Amelle Berrabah from Sugababes, for example.

Boxer Joe Calzaghe is going, as is tennis player Andy Murray and smiley hurdles champion Colin Jackson. Other sporty types include retired footballer Lee Sharpe, Rugby player Dominic Waldouck, sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and 400m hurdler Perry Shakes-Drayton.

Most of Hollyoaks seems to be on the list: Matt Littler (Max), Darren Jeffries (O.B.), Chris Grierson, Louis Tamone, Ricky Whittle, Jamie Lomas and Warren Brown. And they'll be joined by fellow actors Lucien Laviscount (Coronation Street) and Prey Kailas (East Enders).

TV presenters Charlie Webster (Channel Bee), Dr Christian Jessen (Supersize vs. Superskinny) and Gizzi Erksine (Cook Yourself Thin) are all down to attend.

MOBO-nominated rapper Kano might pop in, as might boy band Boy Banned and indie rockers One Night Only.

Big Brother 11's JJ and Big Brother 5's Brian Belo are somewhere around the bottom of the list, joined by "Page 3 girls" and male models Luke Worrall (boyfriend of Kelly Osbourne) and Alex Watson (brother of Harry Potter star Emma).

The Halo: Reach launch event takes place tonight at London's Victoria House in Bloomsbury.

Halo: Reach will be released next Tuesday, 14th September.

History-buffs might want to know that there were no celebs at all at the Halo 2 launch event, though you did get a tasteful pair of Halo dog tags that - when scanned - displayed your name on a big screen.

They were simpler times.

This news item confuses me (and no, this isn't a criticism of EG). Why is it here? I presume EG and other media outlets received a press release, and presumably, the the reveal of the guest list was its primary purpose? So... the main point of the event... is to illustrate how many (questionable) celebrities can be enticed to the event? I don't get it.

I think the point of the launch is to gain a bit of mainstream media attention, and there's nothing the mainstream media loves more than a bunch of freeloading 'celebs' at the launch of something most of them know nothing about.

But fuck it. Halo is big time, it makes a shit ton of money and this sort of balls goes with the territory.

It's not pretty but it's effective for the kind of attention they want.

They don't need to appeal to the long-term fans on sites such as this, we're all buying it anyway.

If your picking up Reach, make sure you get the Collecters Ed. Quite frankly, its the best CE I've ever had and I have a lot. The whole package is lavished with a care and attention to detail you can only dream of. The sheer amount of bits and bobs that fell out of the journal when I opened it is insane, gonna make for many nights reading. Beautiful work Bungie, this sure is a sad farewell.

Most of the time these things are geared to getting game X mentioned in the mainstream press, presumably so celeb loving Mums will know what game to buy little Timmy.
Unfortunately coverage of such events hardly ever mentions what the event was promoting, only who the celebs were with and maybe how drunk they were.
