Kinect supports three languages at launch
Updated with Microsoft comment.
Update: Microsoft has refused to clarify the matter.
"Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010," a spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning. "We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time."
Original story: Reports have surfaced that state Kinect will only recognise three languages at launch: English, Japanese and Mexican Spanish.
Word spilled from the ongoing Kinect beta test.
Website Elpias discovered that only Mexican Spanish - which is different to European Spanish - was supported. Xboxygen, meanwhile, produced an image that touted Japanese and Mexican Spanish support, as well as recognition for British, Canadian and American English.
Microsoft has yet to confirm or deny any of this.
Kinect launches in Europe on 10th November.

I wonder how much of this info trickles down to other 360 users?

The thing that gets me is the way that so many supposedly respectable journalists and pundits -particularly in the US press- are apparently unaware of how much of the Kinect launch line-up has already been done with Sony's Eye cameras.

+1
Perhaps they need to check that video out. Kinect (so far) seems to be EyeToy with prettier graphics.

Pffft don't associate their bastardisation with English. There's English, and there's American. That is all.
And if they don't like it, they can go and f*ck their MOM with a FAUCET.

That was an eye-opener.
Well, screw you most of the world unless you speak English or Mexican Spanish or Japanese, (good to see Microsoft catering to one of their key markets there). I'm curious to know how they expect this to sell in, say, France when it doesn't support the language?
I guess we'll all have to, like, talk like Americans, like. I'm leaning more towards "the Wire" and less towards "standard issue MTV nonsense".
