Kinect beta confirmations sent out
Don't tell the internet! Oh.
Microsoft has sent out emails to people accepted into the US Kinect beta test advising them to expect an automatic system update soon and the kit in the post.
In an email obtained by Kotaku, the platform holder explained that the beta test was confidential (good start) and that the hardware would be posted to participants ASAP.
Testers will get to sample the controller, the new Xbox 360 dashboard that goes with it and new, slimmer avatars redesigned to suit the system as well.
Kinect is set to launch in Europe on 10th November for £129.99 including a copy of Kinect Adventures. Other anticipated launch titles include Kinect Sports, Kinectimals and Joy Ride.
Are you on the Kinect beta? Actually, you probably can't say.

I would assume beta testers are under NDA, they usually are in these sorts of things.
On another note, I would have thought that beta testing would have started months ago. Seems a bit odd to start it so soon to release, doesn't it? I mean, they're not going to have much time to fix any software or hardware bugs now they are locked into a release date.

I also had the same thoughts as you about the late release of the beta. Although that last story which said they are hoping to add The hub, voice and gesture navigation in a software update "around the time" of the release of Kinect, suggests maybe they're still working pretty frantically on that code. Any extra info helps I guess.

It could have been finished for a while but until Kinect is ready there's no real pressing need to update it, it's better to push out the update shortly before Kinect launches and maybe build up some excitement get some free advertising about the launch. At least that's what I'd do in their place.
Personally, I'm in no rush to get one.

Their NDAs are pretty strict, but I believe what happens is you get banned from their beta programs for good, and your publication may have their access suspended for a time.
I've never heard of Microsoft suing someone for breaking an NDA.

If you buy the 4gb Xbox bundle that comes with Kinect, it doesn't (to my knowledge) come with a game.
Correct me if I'm wrong, interents!

NDA: I once signed one that had 'injunctive relief' for damages upon breaching by disclosure, I had to ask my lawyer what that meant!
